The hard fact is, win every game from here on, or stand no chance of playing finals this year. The enigmatic season continues for the seniors going down to Bannockburn last week. Gravy in his 250th game did his job across half back and was fittingly chaired off the ground at the end of the day. Regardless of what the ladder shows, this team is potentially one of the best sides the club has fielded and 6 wins is definitely not out of the question but time will tell.
Bannnockburn away Corio 20-9-129 to 3-3-21
Goals: Troy Feldman 4, Jacob Neal 3, Shaun Gundry 2, John Bartolo 2, Frank Posilovic 2, Chris Short, Mark Harvey, Luke Fitch, Ben Drayton, Matthew Cullen
Best: Ben Drayton, Jacob Neal, Troy Feldman, Luke Fitch, Michael Baumann, Clint Eldredge, John Bartolo
It what was thought to be a tight contest was the complete opposite. The 2’s smashed em all over the ground playing their best game for the season. Scratcher dominated once again getting kicks all over the ground as well tackling, chasing, marking, and setting up play for much of the match. Bulldog Benny did his usual stuff scaring the life out of the opposition with hard chasing and tackling. Feldy had his vice grips back on and kicked accurately to back it up slotting through 4 majors. Fitchy did well in the ruck and ran the game out til the end. Bowy, Eldo, and JB were a class above the opposition picking up stats at will and finishing off with a polished skill display. Once again it was another game where everybody contributed as the reserves flexed their muscles in what will be an interesting game next week against WC.
U\18 Vs Bannockburn away Corio 7-8-50 to 9-8-62
Goals: Harley Hunter 4, Coby Zorkau, Dylan Taylor, Ryan Loone Garcia
Best: Dane Burke, Jacob Groot, Corey Burke, Rhys Marshall, Daniel Scott, Jarryd McKenzie, Harley Hunter
The boys went down in yet another close game making a gallant charge in the last quarter against a stiff breeze. After watching all the close games this year one thing stands out above everything else. During the first 3 quarters the side seems to just go through the motions and doing just enough to keep it level pegging. The last quarter comes and the side steps into another gear playing great desperate football with everything that you can ask from a side. The question is once again why they wait til the last quarter to play that sought of football. The test will surely be over the coming weeks leading into finals, to try and play as many 4 quarter games as possible as come finals, sides need to play a complete game to have any chance of ultimate success. Last week the twin towers Dane and Grooty once again played well and both continue to improve and once again provided marking options for the team on top of both doing well in the ruck. Corey was another tall option who can be very damaging when he decides to put his mind to it. Rhys in defence took marks, tackled and put plenty of pressure on their defence once again being a standout player for his side. Scotty was close to best on ground getting in and under and breaking tackles as he won the ball for his team in the packs. Scotty did play a 4 quarter game last week which is good for the side because when hes switched on the side has a good chance of winning against anyone. Jarryd Mack spoiled time and time again in defence and repelled many attacks forward by the opposition. Harley made the most of his opportunities bagging 4 goals and taking some good contested marks. Injuries last week to key players did make a difference but the side was still good enough to win and let slip another game that was winnable.
A huge thank you to our sponsors
