Milestones
Ricky Otoole 300 Games (3 clubs). Usually we dont recognise games played at other clubs but a milestone of 300 games is something that truly deserves recognition. Ricky began his football career as a junior at Corio winning 2 league B&Fs in the U-15s along the way. He then moved to GFL club St Josephs and played 122 games and collected a senior league B&F, senior League R-Up B&F, and 2 Senior club B&Fs during his time there. 2006 and 2007 he played 37 games for BFL club Newcomb and racked up another league and club B&F and coached the team to a premiership in 2007. Between 2000 to 2005 and 2008-2009 Rick has amassed 140 games for Corio bringing his career tally of games up to the magical 300 mark this week. During his time at Corio, Rick has won an incredible 2 League B&Fs, 3 League R-Up B&Fs and 7 Club B&Fs, and considering his achievements at the 2 other clubs has enjoyed a career very few others in Australian Rules Football history would have emulated. The Corio Football and Netball Club congratulate Rick on a truly remarkable career and wish him all the very best for this fantastic milestone.
Mark Stewart 50 games. Stewy plays his 50th game this week for our club and has also achieved a lot in a relative short period of time. 1992 Stewy won the Senior League and Club B&F and was also League R-Up B&F last year. He also won the League Goalkicking award way back in 1987 for the U-14s. The club would like to congratulate Stewy on this milestone.
Volunteer of the week
This week is Lesa Williams who is in her 4th year as bar manager for our club. Over the 4 years Lesa has made sure the bar has been organised and operated with professionalism which the club very much appreciates. Lesa also helps out with the Thursday night meals and the beer booth on home games. Also a sponsor of the club through Geelong Showroom Tropheys, Lesas support and volunteer work has been another factor in the clubs resurgence over the past 4 years and the club would like to thank her for her ongoing volunteer work.
Sponsor of the week is Donnybrook Wholesale Meats
New sponsor for the club is Donnybrook Wholesale Meats over on Donnybrook Rd Norlane West. Operated by Justin Tate the butchers provides meat and meat products at wholesale prices direct to the public and consistently providing quality produce. Make sure everyone supports them as they support us!!!!!!!!

A very windy game in which the home side seemed to use their knowledge of the ground in windy conditions better than we did. Its seems like we had just got back all our players but last week with 6 absentees through injury looks like we are going to have to fight hard over the coming weeks to keep up with the ladder leaders whilst we wait for injured players. Spenga played a solid game showing off some of his natural evasive powers and then finished off with accurate kicking down the field. Ando is rarely beaten in any area and last week once again he showed why our side is much better when hes in it. Danny Ruck beat a formidable opponent in Easts full forward once again coming up trumps at full back. Jed had an outstanding second half and almost did enough to get his side over the line. Rogues keeps impressing off the half back flank picking up another stack of possessions for the game. Find of the year, Jason Huhn put in another solid performance with more desperate defence work. Mozzie and Manno deserve mentions as both played good games for the seniors. All in all we wasted too many forward thrusts with too many opposition players helping out in defence out numbering our guys 2-1 on most occasions. It must be mentioned, that being one player down for fifteen minutes didnt help our cause after Bowy whilst trying to pick up the ball ran into the umpire and got yellow carded. Even that being the case we still had a good opportunity to win the game but failed to string enough good football together when it counted most.
Reserves Vs East Geelong away Corio 10-9-69 to 8-4-52
Goals: Clint Eldredge 2, Jacob Neal 2, Chris Short, John Keys, Leigh Cervanka, Jon Boljkovac, Robbie Walton, John Bartolo
Best: Leigh Cervanka, Ben Drayton, John Bartolo, Craig Shelley, Clint Eldredge, Danny Tallentyre
The reserves strolled to another comfortable victory after being tested in the last quarter but kicked into gear to play dominant football and outscore the opposition kicking into a massive breeze. The Mad Russian Leroy rucked and marked superbly playing his best game for the year. Bull Terrior Benny Drayton loved the bad weather meaning more opportunities to chase down players and put on vice grip like tackles. Gary Lyons brother Johnny Bartolo was under every pack feeding out handballs and was a big ingredient in his sides win. The Egg Shell Craig Shelley put in another good performance getting plenty of the ball all over the groud. Grumpy Eldredge is getting back to his best form after a standout game last week. At full back Tex stopped many attacks forward by the opposition backing his judgment and leading to mark the ball more times than their full forward.
U/18 Vs East Geelong away Corio 7-8-50 to 6-12-48
Goals: Daniel Scott 3, Dylan Taylor 2, Aaron Shelley, Gus Accheni
Best: Steven Grooby, Stevie Lee, Ryan Loone Garcia, Shaun Hastings, Josh White, Brendan Nicolson
The U-18s showed character to come back in the last quarter to snatch a memorable 2 point victory. The game was won in third quarter playing desperate football kicking against the strong breeze and keeping the opposition to only a few goals. The only problem with the match was another slow start to the game but luckily their second half got them over the line. Groobs played a great four quarter game and was instrumental in getting back and helping out his defenders. Stevie Lee was in and under every pack and putting on tackles more most of the match. Mr consistency Ryan Loone Garcia plays well in any position and once again played well especially in the second half when the game was up for grabs. Backmen Shaun Hastings and Brendan Nicolson were rock solid in defence and provided plenty of run out of danger. Forward Whitey played up the field being the link player for many forward thrusts during the game.
