What a great day for netball finals. We made our way to Leitchville to play White Hills in what promised to be a close match and no-one was let down. After beating White Hills by 1 goal last time, Hillies were out to reverse the result.
Both teams came out strong and the match went goal for goal most of the game. Brit and Tannah were more relaxed after last week and were great in goals making the defenders work hard the whole match.
Midcourters were solid and rotated through the bench. Jesse, Lauren, Brianna, Billie and Tasmyn showed just how much they have improved throughout the season and all performed well. Shelby and Alannah again held up their end with some good, clean defending that made the goalers work hard for all their shots.
An outstanding team performance, from a group of girls that have worked really hard all season, can't wait to play the Preliminary Final at home.
Thanks to White Hills for being part of a fantastic game that was very exciting for the spectators and nerve wrecking, for the coach, this coach anyway!!
Good luck Huntly and lets go all the way! GO HAWKS!!
Qualifying final
A Reminder to everyone that the Vote Count and Presentation Night is on Friday September 23rd at 6:30pm. $10 entry includes roast tea. Tickets at the door.
League Vote Count is on Sunday September 11th . See Slads or Fay for tickets.
Congratulations to the netball girls on making the finals. Good Luck to both D and C Grade today.
Well the first final for these girls as a team. They have done a great job to get there. Colbo came out strong as expected and kept the girls on their toes throughout the whole game. Tannah and Brit were solid in goals although accuracy was an issue at times. Jesse, Billie, Lauren and Tas were kept busy and to their credit stood up well creating several turnovers. Defenders Shelby and Alannah did their usual solid job on the goalers which resulted in a few held ball decisions for Colbo.
A very entertaining, clean and close game by both teams who deserved to play finals. A great win by the girls by 4 goals.

Not the result we were looking for in the qualifying game last week the girls began well but seemed to lose their way as the game progressed. Locky applied a lot of pressure for the whole game and the girls were unable to respond , going down to the better team on the day. This week we play the first semi in a do or die game so let’s put last week’s game behind us and go out onto the court full of confidence and play hard.
GO HAWKS!

Last game for the season and the girls went out and enjoyed there game against White Hills. Great effort team
On the Sunday an early morning start for our little fledglings saw them travel to Elmore to participate in their first lighting Premiership. A fantastic day was had by all the team finishing equal 4th. All girls put in a top effort and a big congratulation to Kobie Couchman on being awarded the HDNA best contributor award on the day. Thank you to all the Mums and Dads who helped out during the season and a big thank you to Coach Jenna who has done a fantastic job with the girls, the biggest thank you go to the girls for all there hard work and dedication and we look forward to seeing you all next year.
What a beautiful day for the last game of the season and what a great game of netball. White Hills were tough opponents and we wanted to turn the result around from earlier in the season. The girls played some great netball and the scores remained tight throughout the whole match. Everyone played their position well and we came away with a 1 goal win. It was a whole team effort and good preparation for the finals.Good luck to all teams in the finals
Our girls started well with some strong passing down the court and into the goalers who capitalized with accurate goaling. Our defensive pressure in the game made many timely turnovers and allowed the girls to use the space down the court.
With some changes at half time, the girls took a little time to settle but showed there teamwork through a good hard fought win. Keep working hard an the rewards will be yours.
This week the girls will play the qualifying final and we wish them well in there endeavourer to make it to the big one. GO HAWKS!
A Reserve
Began the game well with goalers Sueann and Meg on target and the mid court working hard along with the defenders an injury late in the game saw some changes but unfortunately white hills proved to be to strong on the day .

A great game to finish the year off, with nothing to loose and coming of a win the previous week they girls took to the court full of confidence , a great game by the whole team giving there opposition a great workout All the girls should be proud of the way they played.
Round 18: August 20th 2011
White Hills V Huntly
G’day Hawks fans and welcome to the last round of the year and our clash with the arch rivals White Hills. Social Notes: We invite you all to get back to Puggs after the game for a beer and a meal.
Dates to remember:
Preliminary Final Saturday 10th September - ALL players required to help out on the day.
Vote Count / Presentation Night – Friday night 23rd September 6.30pm start $10-00 includes roast meal.
To last week and the boys put in a courageous effort against North Bendigo, after a massive clash on the wing where Pete ‘The Pickled Pecker’ ran into ‘The Dominator’ finishing with a KO’d Pete and ‘The Dominator’ busting his knee effectively leaving our heroes 2 men down with 3 ¼ to play. From this point on there was some massive efforts as the young Hawks pushed the finals bound North side. ‘Iava girls name’ Fiske, who has been outstanding all season and would be at odds of $1.01 to take out the B & F, led from the front again putting his name up for another 3 votes. ‘Captain Underpants’ always seems to fire up when he knows he will be dressing up in costumes and last week was no different playing probably his best game for the year and filling out the Batman suit a treat later that night. Tim ‘The Toolman’, Jake ‘I Swallowed It’ and Matt ‘I Rule with an iron fist’ all contributed well throughout the day. A special mention to Brett ‘It happened in Germany, I’d love to see that’ Monti, after playing some consistent footy in the reserves, came up and played a great running game in the seniors. A big pat on the back goes to him for his hard work in getting back into the senior side.
Incentives went to: Stacy – Puggs Drink Card, Brenton & Tim – National Hotel Vouchers, Jake & Matty – Puggs Meal Vouchers
In the Reserves and another good effort from the boys saw the Hawks push another finals bound contender. Coach Lingy still getting over the celebrations from the close victory of the week before gave another rousing speech pre game to have the boys in a state of fear. Stating anyone who didn’t kick it to him would have to sit next to him on the mystery bus tour that night. No one wanted that, what a cruel punishment. Still the boys would try to dominate the opposition. ‘Thunder’ Dan put his hand up again for a crack at the seniors with a dominant display in the midfield, obviously he was most scared of having to sit next to Lingy. ‘Bubbles’ Brown thought Lingy is just too old for him so decided it would be a good plan for him to kick it to the old sauce all day, ramming it down his throat on many occasions. ‘The Zacheriah’ thought there is no way he wanted to sit next to him and pumped a few into Lingy as well. At the end of the day Lingy had 5 and the boys were worn out and just couldn’t stop the flow of the North side eventually going down by 6 goals. Coach Lingy was so proud he vowed to share his luv on the mystery bus tour that evening and he did just that.
Incentives went to: Dan Harrison – National Hotel Voucher, Zac – Huntly Newsagency, Mitch – Players Award.
The Under 17’s had a big day out against an undermanned North Bendigo and teamed really well for the entire game to win by 60 points. With the inclusion of some permit players the young guns dominated play for most of the day. Jordan IIsley was again on target with another bag of 5 goals and Honk, who backed up from his great game last week in the two’s, kicked 3. Sean work hard for the entire game as did Luke Price, Riley White, Adam Tierney and James Burns. Well done guys.
Awards went to: Luke Price – Geoff Dixon Driving Lesson, Jordan IIsley – Towel, James Burns – Huntly Newsagency.

Another good game by the girls, it was pleasing to see some of the things that we practiced at training during the game well done girls keep up the good work.
C GRADEstarted of very steady, moving the ball around well in attack and getting lots of deflections and intercepts in the defence end, this continued throughout the game building a solid lead resulting in a good win for the team
Incentive award... Gemma Casley

Well, this is the one we thought we were going to win, but again, so quickly and from out of no where the game just got away from us. The first three quarters were very close and during the third quarter we got the game back to level by playing some good netball. Unfortunately we could not get that break we needed and from bad passes, undisciplined and sloppy play the game got away and we went down by 9 in the end. Bad luck girls. Incentive (Green Lily) went to Katherine this week, for some great shooting, listening and taking her time... Remember... 1,2,3 and follow..!!! Lets enjoy our final game together this week against White Hills and give it all our best, have a bit of fun and hopefully (you never know) we might just come away with a win to finish off the season.. On behalf on the B Grade girls I would like to thank Poss for the donations of our Green Lily awards for the season, hope the business is going well and everyone comes in to support you.. Also to Rae the Senior coach, thanks for the support and trainings throughout the year.. And last but not least, all who are on the Huntly Football Netball Committee for your hard work and dedication throughout the season.. See you all next year..!! Signing off xxx

Huntly V North Bendigo
G’day Hawks fans and welcome to the final home game of the year. Our young side takes on North Bendigo today in what should be an interesting clash.
Social Notes: Tonight it’s the ‘Mystery Bus Tour’ – pick up at rooms at 7.00pm.
Congratulations to Brenton O’Connell who won 1st prize in the $1000 draw last Sunday.
Also note that the Vote Count / Presentation night is on Friday night 23rd September 6.30pm start. Cost $10-00 which includes a roast meal.
To last week and the boys put up a solid performance against Mounts eventually going down by 4 goals. After Mounts started well the boys were playing catch up all day hitting the front in the 3rd quarter before fading late in the game. After having enough of the ball throughout the game we didn’t convert the efforts of the boys up the field well enough to have a winning score. There were some big performances by many players for the day, however there were 3 standouts, Pete ‘The Quiet Achiever’ Moore delivered his best game for the year. Running up and down the wing like a young gazelle he drove the ball forward on many occasions. Jake ‘I swallowed it’ Hill tagged Mounts best on-baller and did a sterling job. After telling his opponent he will eat anything that enters his mouth, and that he was going to make a meal of him. He went about devouring his opponent taking him right out of the game. Big Charlie ‘Chip n Dale’ Thorpe performed magnificently in the ruck against one of the best ruckman in the league in Trevor Douglas and gave us plenty of drive out of the middle and around the ground (he’s learnt how to handball whilst he’s been on holiday’s).
The awards went to: Charlie – Puggs Drink Card, Pete & Harvey – National Hotel Vouchers, Dom & Jake – Puggs Meal Vouchers.
In the Reserves the boys come out thinking they could win after an emphatic speech from Coach Lingalike in his 100th game. Boys ‘Pause’ I’ve only got one thing to say today ‘Pause’ kick it to me ‘Pause’ now lets get out there. How could the young side not respond after such a rousing speech. ‘Bubbles’ Brown went out and told his young opponent exactly what he thought of him, and promptly asked him on a date. This put the Mounts on-baller right off his game with Bubbles dominant for the day. Coach Lingalike turned up with a do looking like something out of waterworld, with the crowd thinking surely the sauce is bad enough his opponent wouldn’t even go near him as it was one scary sight. So scary as he had his first shot at goal and his foot got up high enough to see his hair cut it tried to get away cracking a bone in the process. What a scary sight it was.
Luckily the on-ball division inspired by the earlier speech started to cut up the Mounts midfield, led by Dan ‘Thunder’ Harrison and the ‘Hanrahan Possie’ the boys constantly delivered it forward. With Coach Lingy hobbled his goal kicking improved with the ball just wanting to get away from him and he was splitting the middle. The ‘Honky Tonk’ man was also slotting a few through the big sticks, finishing with 4 goals and he was the only one brave enough to enter the 50m arc with Coach Lingalike and it paid handsome dividends. The game was an arm wrestle right to the final siren with our heroes noses in front just at the right time. Coach Lingalike was speechless after the game as tears of joy broke out onto the field of dreams. He was heard saying to the players after the game, ‘This is what it’s all about fellas, follow me I will make your dreams come true, I’ll take you to the promised land’.
Incentives went to: Honk – National Hotel Voucher & Players Award, Dan Harrison – Huntly Newsageny Award.

Another great game by the little fledglings all girls played well with lots of good court play. The awards this week were awarded to Maddy J. Maddie and Taylor well done girls and thank you to our sponsors
Another freezing day for Netball. The girls took the court and played average netball for the first 3 quarters. Mounts small midcourters were hard to contain and will be strong players in the future. 4th quarter we changed the team around and were much improved coming away with the win after some great shooting from Shelby.
Best players on the day were Brit and Tannah.
Began well, goalers were shooting well and defenders were working overtime midcourt were providing the drive on the court and we saw ourselves up at the main break A lapse in concentration however proved costly and this resulted in us going down to a more determined team
Green Lily Award Hannah Comer
B GRADE:
It was an outstanding game by our defense end against Mounts this week. The final score of 51 to 15 did not reflect the immense effort, commitment and hard work the girls put in. Jess, Annie and Jac were stand out, combining as a strong unit in defense, working together and constantly intercepting, getting good tips and rebounding (when the Mounts goalers actually missed, which wasn't very often..!!) But unfortunately our bad passing and lack of coming forward in play, limited the opportunities for our attack end to convert scores onto the board. It all comes back to basics, when we have possession we have to hold onto it, make good choices and commit to each other and the game at hand. Keep going girls, have fun and enjoy...!!!
Incentive (Green Lily) this week went to Jaclyn Duss.
The girls began well but costly errors again proved to be our downfall, everyone tried hard but mounts were too good on the day
Green Lily Award Ashleigh Symons
The final game of the day and we were up against some very tall opposition The girls acquitted themselves well but unfortunately were beaten by a very good side in mount
Green lily Award Cassandra Barowski
Round 16: August 6th
Mt Pleasant V Huntly
G’day Hawks fans, welcome to another week of footy. Today we take on Mount Pleasant in what is for our senior side the most important game for the club in some years.
Social Notes: Tonight it’s back to Puggs for a meal and a few drinks. Tomorrow from midday it’s our $1000 Draw. Make sure you get your tickets into Slads or Ninga today.
To last week and the senior side were looking to back up some more consistent performances in recent weeks with another one against the benchmark of the comp. However the boys were simply blown away by a more polished opposition in the first half. They did however put in a much better second half in a performance that will give some hope for the future. Some of the highlights for the day - first seeing big ‘Chipendales’ tan from his recent holiday, a beautiful golden brown - he is one sexy unit, (that is apart from that nose that he broke leaving his face looking a little disfigured). The ‘Dominator’ Dan Lloyd took a massive pack mark in driving rain in the 3rd term and then kicked truly – (he was up so high he had a glimpse at the scores at the QEO) It was such a spectacular grab we could have won Almost Football Legends on the footy show. The ‘Fossil’ set up a candy store and had the opposition lining up to buy some and ‘Iava Girlsname’ Fiske was ripping the ball out of packs for most of the day. Unfortunately he had polished his boots the night before with Elmore Oil that hadn’t soaked in by game time, it resulted in a few slipping off the side of the boot. JK Hill was seen doing some sifting for gold on Sunday morning after swallowing the gold cap off his tooth. On a down side, Alex ‘Call me Kouta’ Harper sustained a knee injury to the same knee he had reco’d in 2009. We all wish him the best and hope that he gets some good news from his surgeon in the next few days. He is without doubt one of the great young guys of the club.
Incentives went to : Stacy – National Hotel Voucher, Dom – Puggs Drinks Card, Pete & Jesse – Puggs Meal Vouchers.
To the Ressies and Coach Lingalike, fresh from a trip to the salon to get a bit more red into his hair after spotting a few greys, was up and about after our heroes recent performances. Boys - we have been really good lately ‘pause-pause-pause’, today we’ve got a chance to make a statement ‘pause-pause-pause’ now go out and kick it to me and I’ll take you to the promised land. The boys threw themselves in hard all day after hearing such inspirational words, ‘Bubbles’ Brown, with pressure mounting after recently cleansing his sins, was in a feisty mood looking to take anyone on that came near him. With ‘General’ Wilson looking to gain some fitness through the middle of the ground the Hawks had many opportunities to pump the ball forward. The opposition however had over heard Lingy’s game plan and triple teamed the great coach, even with his ample body weight maneuvering the opposition he was unable to bring the boys the win they wanted. After the game Lingy’s speech was ‘ Boys ‘pause-pause-pause’ today ‘pause-pause-pause’ we lost the battle and the war ‘pause-pause-pause’, next week is my 100th game ‘pause-pause-pause’ you blokes need to help get me free more ‘pause-pause-pause’ so I can win the game for us. ‘pause-pause-pause’ It’s so wet I think we should all shower together to get some team spirit going, now get in there. It was obviously a little rough as ‘Spooks’ Brayshaw come out with a black eye with various other cuts and bruises being reported.
Incentives for the day went to : Aaron – National Hotel Voucher & Players Award, Josh O’Neill – Huntly Newsagency.
The Under 17’s had a fantastic win and played some inspired football on the day. Sean was on target and kicked some great goals as did Damon Symons. Jordan IIsley was again a good focal point up forward. Harley played well down back to repel Heathcote’s attacking moves and Cory Tanner played well on a wing. They young guns were under the pump in the last quarter but managed to hang on for a great win. Well done boys.
Awards went to: Damon Symons – Don Antonio Pizza, Harley Gill – Geoff Dixon Driving Award, Cory Tanner – Towel, Jordan IIsley – Huntly Newsageny.
100 GAMES - RHETT CANFIELD
Today we congratulate Rhett Canfield on playing his 100th game for the club. Rhett, affectionately known to his team mates as Lingalike, joined Huntly in 2005 following stints at Bears-Lagoon Serpentine FC and Sandhurst Football Club. Rhett over the years has played 45 senior games and today marks his 55th Reserve game. He is a fantastic clubman and one of the real characters of the club. Rhett took on the job of coaching the Reserves this season and has been a real asset to the club. After playing mainly in the mid-field over the years he recently moved himself to full forward where his form and goal kicking ability has been outstanding. Thanks Rhett on your outstanding contribution to the club, we wish you all the best today and hope you spend plenty more years with the Huntly Hawks.
Netball Notes:
All girls played an excellent game, keep going girls it’s so good to see you improving each week.
Started of strong against Heathcote and made an early break in the first half of the match, defenders Jayeden and Jenna , continually sent the ball back into attack and our midcourt worked hard to ensure the ball was delivered into the ring for our goalers to capitalize on. Well done girls a top effort by everyone.
Unfortunately this was another game that slipped right through our fingers. We came out from the start of the game firing and playing some really good netball.. At quarter time things were fairly even. There was some great defence work, intercepts right throughout the court and there was some really good moving in the ring. But as the game went on we couldn't keep our rythym going and we seemed to have lost our mojo..!! Some of the girls were looking flat and a bit tired.... and I think we just ran out of puff in the end.. We have to keep trying to push through the barriers and play 4 full quarters of netball, that is when we will see the final score in our favour.. Incentive (Green Lily) this week went to Jess Lyndon for a great game in GK, with many tips, intercepts and great rebounding.
A good first quarter by both teams with lots of strong drives and tight defence, in the second quarter Heathcote began to apply pressure to us and we were down by 7 at the main break. The second half saw much of the same with both teams going at it hard with lots of tight pressure our girls to their credit fought back strong with some great defence in the ring and strong drives into the attack to level the game at the final whistle Well done on a fantastic team effort.
Well what can you say an injury to Anna in the first few minutes seemed to have an affect on the rest of the team they tried valiantly in the wet but Heathcote were to good on the day.
Round 15: July 30th Huntly V Heathcote
G’day Hawks fans and welcome to another week of football and netball. Today we host the reigning premiers after a week off and the boys should be ready for a big game. It will be a huge test to see if we have improved from our performance last time around.
Social Notes: $1,000 Draw - Sunday 7th August (after Mounts game).
Mystery Bus Tour - Saturday Night 13th August (after North Bendigo game) Tickets $25 see Marita Purdon.
Many thanks to Russell & Sharon Hocking and Anita & Robbie Runnalls for their effort to organize the Goods & Services Auction. The day went really well both socially and financially. Also a big thank you to everyone that donated items for the day.
To our last game and after winning the toss and kicking with the breeze the Hawks basically lost the game in the first 5 minutes with Colbo kicking the first 4 goals of the game. Our heroes fought back throughout the day and got to within a kick on a few occasions but never actually hit the front, eventually losing by 35 points. There were some great signs however with the boys never giving up after facing what could have been a blow out a few times and the game was still in the balance until late in the game. There were some great performances on the day, with some of the younger brigade having their best games for the year. Alex ‘Callmekouta’ Harper taking his game to a new level after spending 6 nights a week in the gym over the preseason he now spends his spare time bench pressing cars. He should take a lot of confidence out of his game as he took many contested marks throughout the day. The other standout in the air was Harvey ‘The Mexican jumping bean’ McKinnon, who also took many pack marks throughout the day. It’s fair to say he was undersized in the ruck but he did a great job against the oppositions big fridge. There were many good performances as well from the usual candidates and incentives for the day went to: Pete M – Puggs Drink Card, Stacy & Danny – National Hotel Vouchers, Dom & Harvey – Puggs Meal Vouchers.
In the Ressies and coach Lingalike had his structure back in place (he liked it so much the week before that if not for a 3rd ¼ snooze the boys would have won the game). Could the Hawks make up for it this week? Mitch ‘Bubbles’ Brown thought so with the significant release that had weighed on his mind the week before, he went about ripping Colbo to shreds, carving up the midfield like ‘Fire Truck’ Blencoe does to the dance floor on a Saturday night. He was helped by the rat pack of Bruno ‘Man or Beast’ and Chris ‘Meninga’ Thompson. Both of these angry beasts seemed to be playing the wrong code as they bustled the ball forward on many occasions. Coach Lingalike had told the boys to get angry (perhaps Brett ‘the Liverpool kiss’ Monti went a little too far) and kick the ball to him. Coach Lingalike responded with great leadership and the full forward role that suits him to a ‘T’(although there were some conflicting stories on whether he had kicked 1.7 or 7.1 – ‘the scores on the board, boys’ he said). It mattered little in the end as our heroes had steamrolled the opposition and cruised to an 82 point win. After the game coach Lingalike was inconsolable with tears of joy running down his cheeks, the only words he could stutter were ‘I L-L-LUV YOUS ALL’.
The awards went to: Rhett – National Hotel Meal, Chris Thompson – Puggs Meal Voucher, Todd Runnalls – Huntly Newsagency, Mitch Brown – Players Award.
To the Under 17’s and a really good team orientated win to the young guns. Taylor Smart was in everything and got the ball out of the centre on numerous occasions and set up plenty of chances for the forwards to score. Jordan IIsley was a huge focal point up forward and didn’t let the boys down kicking 6 majors. Sean also played well as did young Byrnsey who had a couple of snaps on goal and had his best game of the season. Awards went to: Taylor Smart – Don Antonio Pizza, Sean Hanrahan – Geoff Dixon Driving Lesson, Jordan Isley – Huntly Newsagency, James Byrnes – Huntly Towel.
Another good game by the team with everyone putting in for the 4 quarters Keep it up girls.
Unfortunately due to a player shortage this week, the girls went down in a close match. Thanks to Katrina for stepping up from D Primary and filling in for us. She did a fantastic job and wins the incentive award.
A strong start by the girls in the first quarter set them up for the remainder of the match Changes were made and with several combinations tried, the team went on to record a solid win
B Grade
No Notes supplied. Sorry Mel’s having computer issues!
Incentive went to Anna for a great game in defense.
A positive start of the game by the girls taking every opportunity to put the score on the board, but again we forgot to play 4 quarters of netball which allowed Colbo to take control of the match, and for us to play catch up.
The girls tried hard all game but unfortunately were beaten by a much stronger opposition, Top effort team.
Round 13: Colbinabbin V Huntly
G’day Hawks fans, today we’re at Colbinabbin for what should be a competitive day of football and netball at all levels.
Social Reminder: Tonight we hope to see you all back at Puggs for a meal and a few frothies. Don’t forget the Goods & Services Auction tomorrow at Puggs from 2.00pm.
Spread the word to your family and friends and pick up some great items on offer.
To last week and the mighty Hawks were up for a big game after some disappointing recent performances. The Hawks intensity was there all day which was a good sign however some poor decisions moving the ball forward and some terrible conversion (mainly from the fossil) saw the Hawks butcher some chances that could’ve had them right in the fight at the end of the day. The boys eventually went down by 6 goals. There were however some promising signs with some young lads coming into the side and having solid games. Harvey ‘the spring healed jack’ and Scott ‘the wing span’ providing some aerial highlights and another massive showing from the ‘fire truck’ who was again in shut down mode with some brilliant spoils. There’s no doubt he has put a slightly different color through his hair and has taken his game on and off the field to new level since doing so. Tim ‘The Toolman’ was in scintillating form but unfortunately used his spanners to tighten his hammy too much and ended the day on the pine.
Awards went to: Tim – Puggs Drink Card, Pete & Homer – National Vouchers, Joe & Danny – Puggs Meal Vouchers.
To the Ressies and Coach ‘Lingalike’ was back and popped himself in at full forward for the day. He decided to play ‘Lingy’s paddock’ and told all the other players in the forward half that they were not allowed closer to goal than the end of the centre square, “that’s close enough to kick it to me, so that’s all you will have to do”. And they went about their work well, with ‘Bruno - man or beast’ dominating with his massive frame around the ground along with ‘Callme Kouta’ and the ‘Thorpedo’ dominating the airways early. They were getting the ball down to some sharp midfielders including Mark ‘the phantom, pookie’ Brayshank, who after loosening up with a destroyation of the Huntly T1, went out and started ripping up the opposition with some driving tackles and extracting the ball from the packs. Along with Mitch ‘bubbles’ Brown who, after unloading his mind on Facey this week, seemed to have lifted a massive burden off his shoulders and went about destroying the opposition. They were driving the ball long and hard down to Coach Lingalike, just the way he likes it. He was dominating as the only player inside the forward 50 and looked like he would take the players to another victory. Unfortunately his love of himself worked into the ¾ time speech and after the umpires repeatedly called for the players to take their positions coach Lingalike could still be heard telling his players how good he was and how great he had been all day. Whilst this was going on the opposition slammed on 4 quick goals and it was too much for our heroes to make up eventually going down by 15 points.
Awards went to: Mitch Brown – National Hotel Voucher, Bruno – Players Award, Mark Brayshaw – Huntly Newsagency.
The Under 17’s were very competitive all day but were beaten by a bigger and stronger Leitchville Gunbower side. The young guns put in a much better display than when the two sides met previously and should be proud of their effort. They will need to be on their guard today to get over a young grasshoppers side.
Awards last week: Jake Davis – Geoff Dixon Driving Lesson, Dean Foster – Huntly Newsagency, Luke Price – Huntly Towel, Sean Hanrahan – Don Antonio Pizza.
Another good game by our little Hawkers, all the girls worked hard for the entire game and enjoyed themselves. Well done team.
Another freezing day for Netball, but the girls were keen. Leitchville got the jump in the first quarter after some sloppy play by the girls who then evened up the score at half time. The scores were close throughout the second half but Leitchville finished the game stronger to take the win by 3.A good effort by the girls but they need to play out the whole game and not fade at the end. Best player went to Tasmyn, who is the youngest on the team but is improving with each game.
The Huntly girls took control from the beginning with everyone contributing well as a team and working hard to bring home the points.
We are so close… Every week we come out positive, strong and determined but unfortunately we just can’t get that elusive prize. We are talking well, working together and creating some great passage of netball, just not consistently enough..!! Saturday we started off nicely with Anna, Mel & Jac working well together in defense, creating many turnovers & opportunities, but we were having trouble at times getting it down the court. Sloppy play, bad passes, not coming forward and not fighting for the ball let us down. We also could not finish it off by getting the ball through the infamous goal ring up the other end of the court. We eventually went down to the more disciplined Leitchville side by 9 goals. Our incentive went to Mel Biggs (Green Lily) for her play all around the court and being re-introduced to goals after many years and sinking quite a few..!! We have a great opportunity this week, as we drew with Colbinabbin last time we met them, so let’s go out and bring home the win.. Go girls, I have faith in each and every one of you.
After a close encounter in the first round the girls went into the court with confidence but unfortunately this was not to be as their opposition was to strong on the day for our team. Better luck next time girls but remember you have to play four quarters of netball .
Coming off two wins from the previous weeks the girls were looking to make it three in a row but the leitchville girls had other ideas, a good game of netball by all players and the end score did not reflect the game.
G’day Hawks fans today we welcome Leitchville Gunbower to the home of the Hawks.
Social Notes: Tonight we’ve got a couple of “Master Chefs” cooking so hang around and have a meal and a few frothies. Also don’t forget to get your donations in to Russell Hocking for the Goods & Services Auction to be held on Sunday 17th July. Every player is expected to get or give something to this major fundraising event.
To last week and the Hawks came up against a well drilled Elmore outfit. The Hawks had a really tough day and although the young blokes tried hard they were well undermanned and in the end well beaten. The “Little General” had a pow wow with the Indians after the game to see if they could find the long lost “how to win a game” remedy. We’re all hoping one of the Indians found the wise medicine man so that he can give us the missing potion. If not we’ll get the boys behind the goals to get the fire going and send some smoke signals to the medicine man so that he can find his way to the ground and help out.
Awards went to: Willy – Puggs Drink Card, Stacy & Dom – National Hotel Vouchers, Dusty & Pete – Puggs Meal Vouchers.
In the Ressies, Coach Lingalike was pumped. Hilly’s been promoted to my team, Scott “Aaron Sandilands” Trollope is in as well, so we’ll win this game. Those boys know the game plan “When you get it out of the guts kick it to Lingy and I’ll win the game for us”. Everything was working out fine for the first 3 quarters and Lingalike made a rousing speech at ¾ time. “You’ve played some pretty good footy so far but you’ve gotta kick it to me on the eastern side of the ground for us to get up today”. Confusion rained. Hilly and Sandilands had only ever kicked it out west. This was a change to the game plan that they knew. Could the boys from the West change their mindset? It wasn’t to be. All the other Hawks boys were on the east side of the ground like Coach Lingalike had told them but the ball kept going to the opposition who were out on their own on the west side. Lingy’s plans had come unstuck again. “We’ll get on the track and sort a few things out. I might have look at a new game plan for the future.” Lingy told the troops. Surely he couldn’t be doubting himself. Only time will tell.
Awards went to: Homer – Players Award, Hilly – Puggs Meal Voucher, Chris Thompson – Huntly Newsagency.
To the Under 17’s and the young guns were on fire early and had a great start kicking 4 goals to none in the 1st ¼. Jake Davis was playing the best game of his career in the ruck and doing a fine job around the ground as well. The boys played some good footy at times and looked as though they were on the way to a good win. Unfortunately it all came unstuck after a couple of the young guns got sucked in by the opposition and gave away some silly free kicks. The umpire then picked the wrong kids out and sent them off for 15 minutes. The young Hawks were then down to 16 players for most of the last ¼ and eventually went down by 11 points. The guys have to learn to play disciplined footy and I’m sure they have learnt a good lesson out of last weeks game.
Awards went to Jake Davis – Huntly Newsagency, Taylor Smart – Huntly Towel and Dean Foster.
A cold morning with the sun shining and our little hawks looking for a good game against their opponents Elmore, and they didn’t disappoint, nice goaling by Gracie, Brodie, and Taylor and the midcourt girls Nakita, Abby and Lucy worked hard along with defenders Katrina and Reece to play another good competitive game of Netball. Well Done Team.
D GRADE
It was a freezing day in Elmore. Starting team played a good quarter and we rotated the players throughout the game. The whole team was solid and the younger players did a good job. Elmore didn't make it easy but we came away with the win. Brianna played her usual no fuss game to earn best player award.
C GRADE
With the attack end starting well, Huntly got a head in the first quarter. The defence again were strong and contributed in creating a lot of turnovers enabling the Hawks to consolidate
their good start. With all players contributing consistently across four quarters, Huntly enjoyed a good win.
This is the one we really wanted to win, as it would have lifted us off the bottom of the ladder and unfortunately we let it slip away.
We had some good passages of play, but also missed a lot of opportunities. We started the game off slow and it took us till the
third quarter to really find our mojo. We need to be able to play four quarters of good solid netball to start coming away with the 4 points.
Big thanks to Mel and Jenna for stepping in this week to fill in and were both a great fit to the team.
Our incentives this week went to Jac (Green Lily) for her continuous improvement, great tips and intercepts and Kiarra (Puggs) for her determination, talking and encouragement to others.
The first quarter was not a good one for Huntly with the Hawks starting slowly and making errors down the court. Huntly came back with better ground work and creating turnovers in the remaining quarters – but it was not quite enough to get over Elmore’s strong game.
After the win the previous week the girls started off firing on Saturday, with some really good passages of play down the court. The defenders applied lots of pressure right throughout the game, which gave the attacking end plenty of opportunity and goalers Annalyse and Poss were on fire in the ring with a great display of shooting. Elmore came back in the last term and got within six goals; the girls kept their cool and finished off with a good win. Great game team keep up the good work.
G’day Hawks fans today we travel to Elmore for another tough game against a top five side.
Social Notes: Tonight we’d like everyone to get back to our major pub sponsor, Puggs for a meal and a few frothies. Also don’t forget to get your donations in to Russell Hocking for the Goods & Services Auction to be held on Sunday 17th July. Every player is expected to get or give something to this major fundraising event.
To last week and the Hawks came up against Lockington, one of the best and most well drilled teams in the comp. The Hawks had lost quite a few players through injury and illness during the week and ended up going into the game with a well under-strength side. Although the young blokes tried hard they were well undermanned and in the end well beaten. It will be a good lesson for them to see the level they have to get too, to be a top side in this competition. Our young Hawks had plenty of the ball but didn’t use it to our advantage and the more disciplined LBU side made us pay big time. We seemed to get it to the half forward line only to have it rebounded just as quickly. It was like watching David versus Goliath but David (that’s Brett Monti) forgot to bring his sling shot. We might have to call on big bad Barry Hall to show us some of his “forward line pressure” tips. Alex “Callme Kouta” did a good job but the big, powerful and more experienced Locky coach had a day out. It’s always going to be a tough ask when the ball’s coming in lace-out to the full forward. We needed the “boys behind the goals” to get the fire screen going to help out the backline so we might have to supply some car tyres for them to burn next time.
Awards went to: Brenton – Puggs Drink Card, Stacy & Harps – National Hotel Vouchers, Isaac & Willy – Puggs Meal Vouchers.
In the Ressies, Coach Lingalike was fired up for a big performance after a few quiet ones. With many players moving up to cover losses in the seniors the side needed to pull a rabbit out of the hat to try and get a victory over a high flying Lockington team. Lingy decided all the boys should die their hair red for the game so he bought packets of hair dye to training on Thursday night and told the boys his plan. “We’re going to scare our opposition off the park this week. Who wouldn’t be scared of 22 sauce heads? No one will come near us on Saturday”. The boys took Lingalike’s words on board and all took their hair dye home. Unfortunately Lingy had picked up packets of strawberry blonde thinking this sounded like a sexy sort of sauce head. With some of the boys struggling with directions, the team ended up with 16 blondes, one red head, and 6 players temporarily blinded after getting the dye in their eyes. The well thought out plan had turned to disaster. Lingy was crushed that all his hard work had gone down the drain and his coaching record added another loss.
Awards went to: Jack – Players Award, Mitch Brown – Puggs Meal Voucher, Harvey McKinnon – Huntly Newsagency.
The Under 17’s had another tough day with the boys coming up against the much bigger and stronger Locky boys. The young guns just need to get on the training track, keep their heads up and soldier on. Stay positive and another win isn’t too far down the track.
Awards went to Daniel Ryrie – Geoff Dixon Driving Lesson, Luke Price – Huntly Newsagency, Riley White – Huntly Towel.
Round 11 Huntly V LBU
The start of the second round for the little ones and all girls have improved immensely from their first game against Locky, keep up the good work girls.
Not the result we would have liked however the scores remained close for the first three quarters but going into the last quarter we lacked concentration and this allowed Locky to come away with the win.
A nervous start allowed Locky to get an advantage. Huntly defenders were working hard and able to create many turnovers. The second half saw the girls settle into their game with great passages of play. Hard defence work and accurate goaling allowed
Huntly to come to within two goals but unfortunately time ran out.
“Yippee” We won the girls were all fired up at the start of the game and went onto the court full of confidence. Huntly settled early and gained the early break, our defenders work hard to turn the ball over and the attack end continued to drive and bring the ball into the gaolers who capitalised on every opportunity, the scores remained close and going into the last quarter the intensity lifted and Huntly were able to come away with a well earned victory. Well Done Girls
Round 10: June 25th
Huntly V LBU
G’day Hawks fans and welcome to the first game of the second round. This week we host Lockington in what will be a big test for our all our football and netball teams.
Social Notes: We welcome everyone back to our rooms after the game for a couple of frothies and a meal cooked by a couple of highly respected wannabe Master Chefs.
The Annual Ball last Saturday night was a beauty. Thanks to the people who organized it and the staff at the Boardwalk Restaurant. Great venue, good food and top entertainment and everyone looked like they had a great night. I reckon I even saw Bill Clinton rocking on the dance floor.
Reminder: Don’t forget to see Russell or Sharon Hocking with your donations to the Goods & Services Auction – anything you can donate will be a big help to make the day a success.
To last weeks game and after being very competitive throughout the first half, our heroes put in a poor third term which cost them any chance of an upset and White Hills ran out easy winners. Big Chippy keeps improving in the ruck and with his Forest Gump army hair cut and freshly broken beak he is starting to look the part. The backline has seen the emergence of Ayers Rock - he’s big, he’s red and he’s impassable - that’s right it’s our favourite fullback Jezza Blencoe who put in another solid display. Jimmy Cracks Corn put in another good tagging performance, getting the big jobs every week. He’s all over his opposition like a playful terrier and he then continued that form into the evening at the ball, scrubbing up a treat. He was straight into searching for the opposition’s best player. There were other players who played well in patches through out the day however inconsistency through the game cost us dearly again.
Awards: Jezza – Puggs Drink Card, Pete Moore & Stacy – National Hotel Meals, Dom & Isaac – Puggs Meals. Incentives: Jezza, Dusty, Matty, Shaun & Beats.
To the Ressies and after a midweek shake up from Coach Lingalike the boys were primed to put on a good display. With the ball on that evening Lingy wanted to get a few things straight – “Boys, tonight will be one of the great nights. I’m looking the best I have for a long, long time so make sure you have yourselves looking your best and get a photo with me tonight; I will lead you to victory just like I will on the ground. Anyone who doesn’t get a photo with me will be dropped next week”. Confusion was rife in the room, could Lingy be serious? There is no doubt he is one of the all time great country footballers - just ask him. However, could the boys risk cracking their lenses to take a photo with him. They would have to be looking extra sharp to offset his Linginess. Some of the boys grabbed their bags and headed straight for the door, they would need some professional help with this with only 8 hours to go before the ball and huge preparations needed to be made. Coach Lingalike’s pre-game speech had backfired again; with half the side walking out before the game started they had no chance. They struggled through the day and were well beaten in the end. They all however looked super at the ball, especially “Callme Kouta” who by his own admission is batting well above his average; however his looks went to a new level with the help of his afternoon facial and manicure.
Awards went to: Brett Monti – Huntly Newsagency, Harps – Players Award.
The Under 17’s faced an unbeaten White Hills side and the boys were under the pump from the first bounce. To the young guns credit they played their hearts out. They never took a backward step and “flew the flag” when confronted by their more fancied opponent. The guys just need to persevere and a win is not too far away.
Awards went to Ash Manton – Geoff Dixon Driving Lesson, Sean – Huntly Newsagency, Colby – Huntly Towel.
D Primary:
Another delightful game to watch with all girls trying very hard. Keep up the good work
D Grade:
With pressure to stay 2nd on the ladder we faced White Hills. Shelby, Alannah and Tas were very strong in defence keeping the White Hills goalers in check and Tannah and Brit were good in goals with White Hills giving them limited opportunities. Mid court is improving all the time. Wayward passes and some sloppy footwork was the difference between the two teams. Best on court was Shelby who was great in GK.
C grade:
The team came up against another tough opposition. The girls worked hard as a team playing their own game. Maddison Long worked hard to bring the ball down the court and the defensive team of Jayeden and Jenna played
another consistent game and worked hard to turn the ball over and get the ball back to their attacking end, who capitalized on every opportunity to bring home the points.
B Grade:
We always knew this was going to be a tough game against a very polished, disciplined and undefeated White Hills side, but we came out with a positive attitude as we had a big night ahead of ourselves (and a great night it was..!!), so we were keen to give it a crack and have a good time doing it. We were a fair way off the mark, but we had some good passages of play and we found that if we work together, talk and back each other up, things begin to flow and we start to gel like a real team. Keep pushing forward girls, work hard and the pay offs will come. The Green Lily award went to Kiarra for her great talking, enthusiasm and 110% effort.
A Reserve:
After the win the week before the girls were looking at going out to make it two in a row but unfortunately this did not happen and they were beaten by a better team on the day.
A Grade:
A strong first quarter by White Hills was all they needed to set up the four points. Unfortunately Hillies accurate goaling and tight defence across the court made it difficult for Huntly to gain any momentum. The Hawks pushed hard throughout the game and at times played great passages of play but White hills were too strong in the end.
G’day Hawks fans today we take on our neighbors’ White Hills in what should be an entertaining game as the teams have had some exciting encounters in the past.
Social Note: Tonight it’s our Annual Ball at the Boardwalk Restaurant and a great night should be had by all. Also a reminder to all players for need to contribute to the Goods & Services Auction set for Sunday July 17th – See a committee member to list your donation.
To last week’s game and a brilliant start from the Hawks saw us with a comfortable lead at quarter time. Unfortunately the boys didn’t really give much after then and ended up well beaten in what was a terribly disappointing performance. There were some good individual performances especially through the backline who were under constant pressure all game. Jimmy “Cracks Corn” Gillies sacrificed his own game for the team to tag North’s coach and he looked like he had gone 8 rounds with Mike Tyson at game’s end. Charlie “Chippendale” also played a good game (his newly reconstructed face still no improvement on the old one) and he worked hard in the ruck all day winning his share of hit outs. The huge turnaround after ¼ time has the “Little General” searching for answers and I’m led to believe he’s sent an SOS to “Dr Who” for some outer space answers.
Incentives went to: Jimmy – Puggs Drink Voucher, Dom & Jezza – National Hotel Vouchers, Isaac & Liam – Puggs Meal Vouchers.
To the Ressies and after a rousing victory the week before coach Lingalike was up and about raring to go. The “kick it to me game plan” was taking hold and the boys were starting to believe. Lingy was down there pre game warming up going over his notes, when he slipped into a deep daydream. “Imagine if we won 2 in a row - I will become the greatest coach this club has seen”. The dream went on a little too long and Lingy was awoken from his slumber by the boys screaming “Coach Lingalike - the game has started”. The boys were kicking with the breeze but Lingy had slept through the first bounce and North were off to a brilliant start into the breeze as the Huntly boys had been trying to wake coach Lingalike. Our heroes after missing the chance to score with the breeze in the first quarter never recovered and were comfortably defeated. Coach Lingalike decided the only way to get over the pain of his mistake was to drink it away, and after a few cans the day dream was back and Lingy was again a happy man.
Incentives: Jack – Huntly News agency, Rhett – Puggs Voucher, Parso – Players Award.
To the Under 17’s and the young guns struggled to get their game going until the last ¼ and let another game slip from their grasp, losing by the narrowest of margins. The boys must play for the full four ¼’s to get over the line each week. Their last quarter efforts have been good this season but the boys need perform for the full four ¼’s each game to get over the line.
Better players : Adam Tierney – Geoff Dixon Driving Lesson, Dean Foster – Huntly News agency, Damon Symons – HFNC Towel, Luke Price, Riley White and Corey Tanner.
Good game by our little hawkers they are playing some great netball Keep up the good work girls
Today saw a great win to the girls. Good team effort by all and great shooting by the goalers. Billy went down with an ankle injury in the 3rd quarter but was back in the last. Flowing play was much more evident and the team is improving all the time. Tannah was moved around the court and played well in all positions. Incentive award went to Lauren.
The young Hawks got off to a great start and consolidated well in the second half. Both ends of the court connected well throughout the entire game, and the defensive play worked hard all the way up thecourt. Brit came on for her first game and showed great skill in goals. Well done girls Award Brit.
We had a fantastic game against North Bendigo, going down by 3 goals in a physical and intense game. The girls started out slowly and caught up well during the 2nd and 3rd quarter, the winners only decided in the closing minutes of the last quarter. Everyone played well together as a group and played the best game we've played all season. Marita and Chelsea both shot great in goals, defenders did a good job too.Bad luck girls, keep our heads up and keep enjoying the rest of the season. Thanks to Rae for stepping in and coaching for Mel today. Good luck against White Hills - have a great night at the Ball! The Green Lily incentive award went to Marita Purdon.
What a fantastic start the girls had, everyone was switched on from the first whistle and all players worked hard to push the ball into attack creating loads of opportunities for Poss and Meg. Congratulations to Poss who played her 50th game and the team for a great win
Huntly started well in the opening quarter and the shooters were confident and getting their goals in. North’s shooters were also well on target but Huntly went into the first break a couple of goals up, 2nd quarter we went missing and allowed North to jump in and take a good lead going into the main break, our girls never gave up and the last quarter both sides went goal for goal and while not being able to get the points, the Hawks persevered the whole game in a credit to them. Awards – Danny and Tiff
Round 8: North Bendigo V Huntly
G’day Hawks fans, today we’re at North Bendigo in what will be tough games for all grades. The confidence should be up though after getting a much needed win in both the Senior’s and Reserves last week.
Social Reminder: You need to get your tickets to the Annual Ball this week so see Slads or Jessie today. Tonight it’s back to Puggs for some fine food and a few beverages.
To last week when we hosted Mounts and what a great game of footy with a result that could’ve gone either way. Early on it was a tight contest with lots of pressure by both sides and at quarter time it was 2 goals a piece. In the second the “little wood duck” got on the end of some great team play to slot 3 with his Brent Renouf kicking style doing the job. “Iava Girls Name” Fiske was dominating , ripping the ball out of the middle like taking candy from a baby (which he no doubt practices during the week when teaching at Laurel Street). “The Fossil” was so excited he thought he was 21 again and tried to rip in a 90 metre barrel that went 15 metres and he was lucky not to be dragged. With the backline also keeping things tight, the Hawks went into half time a couple of goals in front.
At half time the players relaxed to the dulcet tones of “The Little General” Wilson singing lullaby’s to try and relax the excited group. He went a little too far with some of the players falling asleep and it showed in the third ¼ as the Mounts guys dominated. Our boys took an old style spanking for the quarter going into 3/4 time down by 10 points. “The Little General” fired up the troops for the last ¼ swinging a few changes. “The Fossil” into the ruck (what the ? - was the thoughts of the crowd - the old man will go home in an ambulance), It was all due to “Big Chippy” failing to pull up coming to the bench and ran head first into the fence, smashing his nose all over his pretty face. “The Fossil” got a few lucky taps to “Iava Girls Name” who pumped the ball into the Hawks forward line with sublime skill. The Hawks needed some heroes, and that’s when “The Dukes” stood tall. After being well held for 3 quarters, “The Dukes” put on a clinical display in the last grabbing everything that came his way to kick 3 vital goals. Mounts however fought back to take the lead by 7 points with just minutes left. After another centre clearance from “Iava Girls Name” the ball rushed forward to land in the arms of first gamer Ritchie ‘you will hear me when I speak’ Murray. He coolly slotted home the resulting shot. The Hawks pumped it forward out of the centre again, with 100 gamer “I’m on a VB ad” Kellow kicking a point to level the scores. A throw in deep in the forward line with only seconds left on the clock resulted in a quick snapped point by “The Fossil” and the siren sounded not long after. Our heroes got the win and the crowd showed their appreciation with a stirring rendition of the club song.
The awards went to: Stacy – National Hotel Voucher, Woody – Puggs Drink Voucher, Dan B. – National Hotel Voucher, Dom & Joe – Puggs Meal Vouchers. Incentives went to Shaun, Liam, Jezza & Beats.
To the Ressies and another close one for the day would be decided late. After getting “The Dukes” out of the side, Coach “Lingalike” sabotaged the $4M man by filling his UV tanning cocoon with water. This resulted in some massive rust damage which the $4M man may never recover from. Coach Lingalike however had his game-plan back, -kick it to me. The boys were up and about early moving the ball well, with “Callme Kouta” Harper dominating the airways like an FA-18 jet. He was everywhere in the air circling and marking all that came his way. The big unit was a great target for the day. With “Raging Willy”, “Mad Macca” and “Jake the Peg” receiving the ball on a platter in the middle from “The Cross Thread” (who was rucking like Dean Cox) our heroes went into half time with a small lead. Again the third quarter belonged to the opposition after a snooze fest at half time, (the result of Lingalike pausing in his speech and forgetting to continue). This resulted in one of the all time great 3/4 time sprays with Coach Lingalike, throwing the magnetic board half way across the field and just missing the “head nurse” and with names flying everywhere no one had any idea where they were supposed to be. Coach Lingalike’s spray went like this “Boys our game plan is simple….Pause…..kick it to me ………Pause……….its not hard…….Pause……kick it to me…..Pause……ok lets go” And Lingalike didn’t let the boys down carrying his side home on his ample chest, shoulders and massive stomach. The boys home by a goal in a thriller.
Incentives went to: Daniel Harrison – Huntly Newsagency, Chris Thompson – Puggs Meal Voucher.
Huntly V Mt Pleasant
G’day and welcome Hawks fans as today we host Mounts and the boys are fired up for a massive game as both club’s Senior sides try to get their first win of the year.
This week we celebrate 100 game milestones for John ‘the glove’ Beattie and Shaun ‘The VB ad’ Kellow. ‘The Glove’ is famous for his shutdown roles on the opposition’s most dangerous big man and also for leading the trend of the sleeve. Beat’s will be desperate to post a win in his 100th game and will no doubt give a solid 4 quarter performance as usual. Shauny is famous around the club for featuring in the VB ad for batting well above his average. On the footy field he has become the first HDFL player to play 100 games without ever handballing, but why would he with such sublime foot skills hitting his targets up field or dropping bombs on the goals. Loaded with talent he’ll also be looking forward to a massive game.
To the last round and it was a rout in Heathcote in what was a disappointing day for the club. There’s not much we can say about the game except we were beaten by a far superior side. Let’s hope the guys put it behind them and work well as a team today.
Awards went to: Stacy – Puggs drink voucher. Charlie & Pete – National meal vouchers. Dom & Shauny – Puggs meal vouchers.
To the reserves and a special mention needs to be made of Liam ‘The Dukes’ Jukes. With grabs sticking like glue for the former socceroo, the Dukes had a day out finishing with 7 majors. He’s likely to be dropped to the seniors this week for ignoring coach Lingalikes ‘kick it to me game plan’. The Dukes along with Jessie ‘Torpedo’ Thorpe and Jesse ‘BymeaPie’ O’Connell were better players on the day. There were some encouraging signs for the side so lets hope the boys can break the drought today.
Incentives went to: Liam – Players Award. Jessie T - Huntly Newsagency. Jesse O – Puggs voucher.
The Under 17’s was a very close encounter with Heathcote leading for most of the day. Unfortunately a couple of our boys couldn’t play and with 16 players it was always going to be tough. To the boys credit they dug deep, had a great last quarter and nearly stole the game to go down by the narrowest of margins.
Best Players in a good team effort were: Adam Tierney – Huntly Newsagency, Dean Foster - Huntly FC Towel, Jaydon Hocking, Riley White and Corey Tanner.
Social Reminder: Our Annual Ball is to be held on Saturday night 18th June (after the White Hills game) at the Boardwalk Restaurant. Tickets are $85-00 per person and that includes a 2 course meal and drinks from 7.30pm. The band for the night is “Top Jimmy”. Get your group together for a great night. See Slads or Jessie Sladden for tickets.
What a great start to the day. A very competitive game with Heathcote never giving in. all the girls put in a fantastic effort and make it a great game to watch, our little fledglings are improving every week. Well done girls.
Back after a bye the girls were keen. Heathcote started strongly but the girls stepped up a notch. More court time given to the less experienced today and they rewarded the team with some good play. Skills all round are improving and developing with every game. A good team effort all round. Brianna was put in goals for the first time and did a great job earning her the best player award.
A solid start to the game with all girls defending and bringing the ball down the court cleanly. Hannah and Bree goaled and capitalized on every opportunity. Heathcote made some ground in the next few quarters as we began to relax and this made for a close last quarter which saw our girls finally steady and bring home the win. Incentive award - Brodie Bunt
Mel was away in sunny Queensland for the game against Heathcote, thanks goes to Chonny for stepping in and leading the team. A good tough game again for the girls this week, unfortunately we didn’t come away with the win.
We started out well during the 1st half but let ourselves down in the 2nd half and Heathcote got away from us. Lua, Katherine and Jess played well in defence, Lua getting a number of touches from rebounds. Stacy did a great job controlling the centre for the 1st half and Kiara kept it going in the 2nd half. Heathcote were the better team on the day. Well done to Jess Lyndon who received The Green Lily Florist incentive award. Good luck against Mount Pleasant! Go Hawks!
A terrific team effort from everyone on the court and we came away with our first win for 2011. Down by 8 goals at half time we managed to pull together and achieve a 13 goal turnaround to come home and win by 5 goals. Fantastic game to watch. Well done girls. Incentive award went to Tara Jenkins.
A game we would rather forget, although we had some good passages of play we were outplayed by a better team on the day. All girls worked hard trying to create turnovers but unfortunately we need to be more consistent for 4 quarters, and this showed on the scoreboard. Keep working at it girls
Incentive award went to Alex Rochester.

G’day Hawks fans and welcome to another week of exciting football. Today we’re at Heathcote to take on the reigning premiers in what will be big games for all grades. After the game it’s back to Pugg Mahones for a meal and a few frothies. Also don’t forget to get your tickets in for the $1,000 Draw tomorrow at the rooms starting at midday.
Looking back to our last game when we took on Colbo and the boys started well winning the first quarter and were off to a flyer. With contributors right across the ground and full ground pressure the side showed what they could do and went in at half time 10 points behind. The side had many contributors however the stand out on the ground for the whole day was Jeremy ‘Sound the alarm’ JezaBlencoe. Not only was he wrapped around his opponent like a glove, spoiling anything that came their way but he was then winning the ball back and driving it long and hard into the forward line. Like a beautiful red butterfly coming out of the cocoon JezaBlencoe is awakening from his slumber. The 2nd half saw a chain of events the really hurt the team’s momentum. It’s always a risk taking prehistoric beasts into the game, sometimes its going to hurt you. Into the third and the “head nurse” had forgotten to lube up the “$4Million man”and as he bent over to do up a shoe lace the titanium rod in his back seized and he was unable to straighten his back. With his polished guns wavering around near the ground he was sending blinding flashes of light all through the forward line. With “The Fossil” blinded for a second by one of those flashes he ran straight into the “Wood Duck” who stepped on his toe crushing his fragile old bone. The squeal from “The Fossil” sent the “Wood Duck” into a panicked state and he flew straight into “Raging Willy”. The carnage resulted in a broken ankle to the “Wood Duck”, and a broken arm to “Raging Willy”, “The Fossil” had one less toe and the “$4 million man” had to get the RACV to lube him up. There were no players left on the pine giving the boys a tough second half and in the end it proved to tough a task with Colbo running away with the game.
Awards: Jezza – Puggs Drink Voucher, Stacy & Ash Manton – National Hotel Meals, Charlie & Jimmy – Puggs Meals.
In the Ressies, Coach Lingalike was back to claim his side. In a stirring pregame speech he reiterated what had been worked on all preseason. “Boys I’m back and I’m the main man - get the ball to me and ride the wave as I’ll take you to the promised land”. The boys were inspired by the confidence of Lingalike and with many other players coming back into the side could this be the day for the Lingalike’s maiden victory. A great start to the game with Lingalike ripping the ball out of the middle and pumping it long down to Jesse “Bye mea Pie” O’Connell, Lingalike drifted forward calling for the pill but “Bye mea Pie” ignored him and had a shot himself drilling it right through the middle. Normally this would be a great start to a game, but the confusion of not passing to Lingalike had the boys confused. Lingalike was steaming, obviously annoyed at being ignored. Some of the guys were high-fiving “Bye mea Pie”, but the rest were devastated. Who was this man that would defy their fearless leader? The split in the ranks divided the side with Lingalike unleashing an almighty spray at half time. The boys playing as 2 separate teams within a team couldn’t bridge the gap and in the end went down narrow losers. Coach Lingalike has some work to do to get the boys back playing as one team.
Awards: Jessie O – Players Award, Isaac Hogan – Huntly Newsagency.
To the Under 17s who had a great win, their first for the year. It was fantastic to see a couple of talented kids out of the Under 13 ½‘s help out on the day. Coach McClelland was wrapped with the way they went about it and the young guns belted out the club song with great gusto.
Awards: Geoff Dixon Driving Lessons - Dean Foster and Jayden Hocking, Jess Vickery - HFNC Towel, Ash Manton - Huntly Newsagent Award. Other good players in a great team effort were Sean Hanrahan (8 goals) and Riley White.
Well what an amazing feeling lining up on our new courts to play our much loved game of netball. It has been a long time coming, with lots of research, applications, meetings and discussions, but it has all been worth it to be able to play our wonderful game on such a great playing surface. Many thanks to all who have helped in any way to make this such a successful project for the Huntly Community.
Welcome to our new players to the team the girls played some lovely netball and are improving as the weeks go on keep up the good work
First game for the girls on the new courts. With pink everywhere it was the first time we had a full team. They started well but got very untidy and scrappy. Goalers and defenders did their part but the midcourters were not consistent. Better effort needed for the rest of the season. A lucky win to a strong finishing Colbo team. Best player Alannah Gordon who was awesome in Defence.
Another good game by the girls they are gelling nicely as a team and continue to impress. Keep up the good work
Wow... you girls know how to get the crowd nervous and excited all at the same time.. 2 goals down with 1 minute to go, it was a big ask, but somehow you guys did it. What a fabulous game by all and a fitting result in the end to have a draw.. (Although the win would have been nice..!!!).
It was a great fought out game with all our girls stepping up for 4 quarters, playing as a team and really give it their all. A wonderful effort by Katherine, Lua and Jacq in defence, with many touches and intercepts to create many turnovers throughout the game. (Jacq with some very spectacular moves at times..!!) Jess Lyndon ran her little heart out and was a driving force through the centre, creating open space and extra coverage in defence with those long arms of hers. Kiarra played well at both ends of the court, really stepping up and improving each week. Jenna worked well with our goalers, feeding into the ring and creating some good passages of play. Marita and Chelsea started off slow with their shooting, but as the goals dropped their confidence grew and the girls played their hearts out right to the end. Jacinta come on in the last quarter to give us the extra legs we needed to get us to the end of the game and fitted in well with the rest of the girls, Thanks Cint. Our incentive this week went to Katherine McCallum, for a great game in defence.
Had the opportunities but could not capitalize on them, Megan stepped up and played a great game unfortunately the girls went down to a more determined team. Incentive Award Megan.
A much improved game from the previous week although going down the girls played some great netball, Hannah game on in goals and teamed well with Sue, turnovers from the defenders were being capitalized on which made for a much closer contest. Keep working hard girls and a win is not far away. Incentive Award Alex.

Huntly v Colbinabbin
G’day Hawks fans, today we are at home to Colbinabbin with a lift needed from all grades to get some wins on the board.
A reminder to get your $1,000 draw tickets back to Byrnsey or Ninga by next Thursday and also word your friends up about our Annual Ball at the Boardwalk Restaurant on 18th June.
To last weeks game and our boys went over to Leitchville with a very different side to Round 2 and for various reasons the senior side had 8 changes prior to the start of the game. Some highlights from the game was the form of ‘a boy named Stacey’ tearing the ball out of the middle on numerous occasions (he looked like Forrest Gump running out of the forest with soldiers on his back) and he delivered the ball out to teammates and worked tirelessly all day. Big Charlie ‘Prince William’ Chip N Dale seems to have found a bit more stamina with age. He was always good to get in quickly but his form this year has been encouraging and he has found some second efforts that have wooed the crowd. Ash ‘mini slads’ Manton also contributed well. After playing a full game in the 17’s he started on the pine and came on to give a bit of bite around the packs doing a good job.
Tim the Toolman also played another good game buzzing around the packs, whipping around players and delivering down the ground. However the end result was another disappointing loss after promising form the week before. Poor decisions with ball in hand and a lack of 22 contributors told on the day.
The awards went to: Stacey – Puggs Drink Card, Dom & Dan B – National Hotel Vouchers, Tim & Charlie – Puggs Meal Vouchers.
In the Ressies the whole balance of the side had been turned on its head with coach Lingalike moving up to the seniors, the game plan was out the window. You can’t kick it to the coach if he’s not there. Luckily for the side The Negotiator was back on hand to lend some steady words to the side and declared a coup, ‘I’m back boys and I’m here to stay - not like coach Lingalike’. The young side listened with intent as the Negotiator went through the game plan, ‘we need to really really put the pressure on all day really. If we can do that we are a really really big chance of winning the game.
The boys went out fired up after the inspirational speech, as the ball bobbled around the forward line young Mark ‘pookie’ Brayshank, playing his first game, laid a bone crunching tackle that had his opponent groaning for his mummy. He pumped the resulting free kick down to the $10 Million man Slads (with his new upgraded torso and guns on show, polished to the brim - he was shining like some new alloy wheels) the ball bobbled around a little bouncing through opponents and over the head of the $10 Million man, as he turned it bounced up into his big guns and must have felt embarrassingly small against the big unit. He pinged it towards the goals with a gyrating banana as the goal umpire looked up the glint from the guns caught his eye, causing some long lasting retinal damage he couldn’t see a thing, the $10 Million man was celebrating, the dazed and confused goal umpire put up the 2 fingers and paid a goal, what a start by the boys.
However as they came in to congratulate him he was throwing his arms around and like a deadly laser anyone who looked at him was blinded. None of the boys could see a thing and after such a promising start the whole day had gone out the window. The Negotiator couldn’t believe his bad luck, thwarted by the shiny guns; his weapon had turned on itself. Needless to say it was the last score of the day for the boys.
The awards went to: Bryden McFarlane – Tap on the Shoulder, Aaron Cowling – Huntly Newsagency socks.
To the Under 17’s and the boys played a much bigger and stronger LG unit. Unfortunately we could only muster sixteen players but the young guns battled hard all day and never stopped trying.
Awards went to: Adam Tierney - HFNC towel, Jake Davis, Ash Manton & Jess Vickery. Other good players were Harley Gill and Jayden Hocking
We had the long journey to Leitchville last week and it was a lovely warm day for netball.
Our junior hawks come away with two wins, but unfortunately the senior girls were not so lucky.
Our little hawks took to the court with enthusiasm as always and are improving each week well done girls keep up the good work
After watching Leitchville unfurl their 2010 Premiership flag the girls took to the court and played their hearts out.
With only the bare 7 they never backed away from the challenge and were 8 goals up at 3/4 time.
They dropped off in the last 1/4 but held on to win by 2 goals. Lauren, Billie and Laura were solid in the midcourt. Goalers Brit and Tannah worked well together and were accurate. Defenders Shelby and Jesse were super in Defence and played a huge part in the win. A great team effort.
C Grade:
The girls went in strong and established a lead early on. Huntly made many positional changes throughout the game and eventually came away with a hard fought win.
We were going into this game very positive after our first win last week, but unfortunately we didn’t quite get the result we were after. It was our team mate Jenna’s 21st, (Happy Birthday, honey) and we were hoping to pull off the win for her.. We started off well and had lots of the play, but just couldn’t quite convert with each opportunity. The Leitchville gaolers were spot on and hardly missed a goal, making it hard for our defenders to create turnovers. Our incentive this week went to Chelsea for a great game in goals, (even though she had to leave early to work at grooving the moov).. The final score did not reflect the quality of play from our girls on the day and I think this was quite frustrating for everyone, but we have to soldier on, put this game behind us and focus on our game against Colbo this week. Good luck today girls, lets come away with a win for our first game on our new courts…!!!
A Reserve played a much better team game this week and had improved their drive through the mid-court. Our goalers were on target but the slow start let us down, and this resulted in catch up netball, the girls tried valiantly to bridge the gap but eventually went down by 2 goals.
The Bombers jumped Huntly at the start to establish the early ascendancy. The girls tried hard but unfortunately went down.
Congratulations to Melissa Matthews (pictured top) who celebrates 200 Games with Huntly Netball Club. Melissa came to the club in 1996 and has played here for 13 years having a few years off to have her 3 children. She is only the second player in the clubs history to achieve the 200 game milestone. It is fitting that we celebrate this milestone on the opening of the new netball courts, as Mel was largely responsible for obtaining the grant for the courts. Mel is a valued player at Huntly having won Club Best and Fairest Awards, Runners Up League Best and Fairest and is a Premiership Player winner. She is currently on the HFNC committee, Coaching B Grade and is one of our League Delegates. She is truly committed to the club and we wish her well for the season. Congratulations Mel enjoy the day a fantastic effort.
Leitchville Gunbower V Huntly
Round 3: April 30th 2011
G’day Hawks fans, this week we’re at Leitchville in what is another test for our guys. After improving significantly last round from Round 1 we’ll be hoping for further improvement today. With so many new faces it will take a little time for all the teams to gel.
*** A reminder that after the game tonight the Leitchville-Gunbower club has a meal on at a very reasonable price so we urge everyone to hang around and partake of their hospitality.
Just a report on the “Huntly Cup” function after the Elmore game and in a stellar field the winner of the cup was Callme Kouta (ridden by Alex Harper). He kicked clear on the home turn to win by a nose from the fast finishing Vertically Challenged (Ash Wilson), with Bymea Pie (Jesse O’Connell) a length away third. The winning punter for the night was Macka, and after being involved in a 5 way collision earlier in the day, he now has enough money for the facial surgery he will require (he had $1700 on Callme Kouta to win and picked up $68,000).
Back to the last round against Elmore and it was extremely windy conditions again making it difficult skill wise.
There were a few standout performances however. Jeremy “the red SOS” Blencoe was outstanding in defense with a big job on Lobb and some of his fisting had to be seen to be believed. He fisted one so hard you could hear the air squeal out of the ball and it ended up hitting the head nurses back door (the head nurse returned the ball after he got back from his seminar on “Facials - do it yourself and feel fresh and new”). Stacy “Iava Girlsname” Fiske also played a great game. His form through the middle of the ground ripping the ball out with hulk like strength was outstanding. There was some bone crunching tackles laid in the game by Jake “the bear hug” Hill and Raging Willy. Ash “the little General” Wilson was impressed with some of the patches of play throughout the day but stated that there is still a lot more work to be done to get to where we want to be.
Award winners: Jezza – Puggs Drink Card, Matty & Stacy – National Hotel Meals, Joe Daly & Tim Kennedy – Puggs Meal Vouchers.
To the Ressies, and Coach Rhett “Lingalike” took the reins on home turf for the first time. He was a little nervous before the game but after a solid warm up and some telling words from his helper “The Negotiator” he was primed for a pre game rip. Boys - how can we win this game? Silence – Boys, how can we win? A scared voice in the background replied - Kick it to you coach? That’s right son - kick it to me, I am captain-coach and all round good guy superstar so that’s how we’ll win, if you can kick it to me. If you don’t you’ll be picking out splinters by the end of the day. The boys had a tough first half but were still in the game at half time. Coach Lingalike then took it to another level, “Boys - use your heads, we need to get it to me more to win this game”. “Crossthread” had a confused look on his face, and put his hand up. Use your heads you say? That’s right Crossy use your heads, that’s all we need to do and we can come home with a victory. Crossy went out to the first bounce and thought to himself – Right, I’m going to use my head. He went full-on head first into the contest like some sort of heat seeking missile, it was carnage - there were bodies lying everywhere after a 5 way head clash. The Huntly boys had used their heads but it had not been as Coach Lingalike directed. With so many players now down and out it was now impossible to win the game. Coach Lingalike will have to be a lot more careful with his speeches in the future.
Incentives went to Ethan – Huntly Newsagency, Evan & Shaun – Mitchell Street Florist.
In the under 17’s Elmore had led for most of the day when the Hawk young guns dug deep and had a great last quarter. They nearly stole the game only to go down by 4 points. The guys are improving and a win is not far away. Get behind Rob and Bruce and get to training as I’m sure there’s heaps of improvement to come.
Awards – Sean Hanrahan - Geoff Dixon driving lesson, Ash Manton – Huntly FC towel. Other good players in a team effort were Adam Tierney, Jake Davis, Luke Price and Jayden Hocking.
Go the mighty Hawks.
What a beautiful day for netball and it was the day we bid farewell to our old court…!!! It was disappointing that the new courts weren’t ready for our first home game, but they are all finished now and are looking great.. Our next home game on 7th May against Colbo will see our first games on the new courts..!!! Sooo excited..
Well what a great win for the girls today. Goalers, Tannah and Brit were on fire and combined well with Lauren who had a great game in wing attack.Jesse was solid in centre and our youngest Brianna played well in wing defence. Allanah and Shelby were strong in defence and slowed Elmore’s scoring. The girls are starting to gel and improving all the time. Final score 33 to 9.A great way to farewell the old court.
Yeah..Our first win on the board. What a great effort girls, I knew it wouldn’t be too far away. It’s always nice as a coach to see the things that we practice at training to be implemented on match day. Jess, Lua and Kiarra combined well to create a strong defence, produced many turnovers and got lots of rebounds. Our centre court players Stacey and Jenna created open spaces to bring it down the court and fed the ball well into our goalers Chelsea, Marita and Katherine to capitalise on our opportunities. You all put in 100% and never gave up. Final score was 26 to 20. Well done girls. Have a great break over Easter and I hope the bunny is kind to you all..!! Our incentive this week went to Jess Lyndon on an outstanding effort in GK. I know it’s not your normal position, but you proved that even if you’re not in your comfort zone, if you put in and give it a go, anything is possible.
‘’’…Congratulations Tara Jenkins 150 Games..’’’
Back in 2000 when Tara first came to the Huntly Football Netball Club, her name was Tara Kane to us all. Tara came to the Club as a junior, playing 34 games before she moved on to the senior ranks.
She played majority of her netball in the A Reserve side throughout her 8 years at the club, occasionally stepping up to A grade and sometimes filling gaps in the B Grade side.. Tara has always been the quiet achiever at the club, but has always been one to pitch in and help out whenever required. There was always a worry for Huntly that Tara would leave us and go and play with her sister at White Hills, but good old Tar’s always stayed true and stuck with the Hawks.. Although she has never been in a Premiership side, Tara has always been a dedicated netballer and a great defender in her true right. Tara was married in 2007 to James at a beautiful ceremony at the racecourse. Tara played one more year in 2008 and finished at the club on 148 games. We got her back this year, along with her sister Jodie and both girls are doing a wonderful job playing in our A Grade side. Tara plays her 150th game against Leitchville today, we wish her all the best and give her a great big congratulations on such a great achievement. Well done Tara…!!!
Round 2: 16th April 2011
Huntly V Elmore
G’day Hawks fans and welcome to our first home game of the season. This week we welcome Elmore in what will be another big challenge for our new side. Just a reminder to everyone that the running of the annual “Huntly Cup” will be on tonight in the social rooms. Come along, buy your “funny money” and enjoy a great night.
Last week we took on Locky with plenty of new faces in the side and it was always going to be a massive assignment first up. Kicking into a stiff breeze in the 1st ¼ our boys were highly competitive in the early stages of the game kicking the 1st goal. From the half way point of the first however it was one way traffic (in the wrong direction) for our lads. This wasn’t rectified, outside of small patches for the rest of the day. There was however one special individual performance, John ‘the glove’ Beattie was all over the best forward in the comp in Ollie. Like a sweet fitting glove he shut down many of his opponents marking opportunities and did a fantastic job winning more than his share of contests. The “Tool Man” is back with the Hawks and was zipping around the packs like an annoying fly. He also did some good things throughout the day. Big “Chippy” won his share of hit outs throughout the day and won a bit of the ball around the ground too. He has taken his body sculpting to a new level over the pre season and is one of the nicest lumps of man meat you would lay your eyes on. Another couple of body sculptors who have upped the anti after coming back from knee reco’s are Ossie ‘The Sexy Unit’ Oswald and Alex “The Greek God” Harper. Both the boys got through the game unscathed and did a few nice things through out the day in what is promising for them and the club moving forward.
Senior awards went to:- Jon Beattie -Puggs Drink Card, Peter Moore & Joe Daly -National Hotel Vouchers, Stacy Fiske & Matt Rule - Puggs Meal Vouchers. Incentives: Isaac Hogan, Jon Beattie, Jake Hill, Matt Rule, Haiden Oswald & Alex Harper.
In the Reserves the reins have been taken over by Rhett “Sauce” Canfield. Captain-Coach or “CC Sauce” was everywhere. With so many new faces in the side the boys did a good job against last years premiers. “CC Sauce” has come up with a new game plan this year. “Boys, this year we are going to win the ball out of the middle and kick more goals than the opposition”. The boys applauded this new game plan and decided it might take them to a few wins. Good players throughout the day (out side of “CC Sauce” of course) were JB “Fire Truck” Blencoe (after putting in a massive preseason and getting his body into the same shape as his idol Cameron Ling) and Brett “The Flee” Monti. “Fire Truck” was hard at it al day. Another new comer to the club is Willy “I may be small but I will smash you yeah” Anderson. “I will smash you yeah” loves the hard balls and he was firing in all day. Both guys will be pushing for a spot in the senior side soon. After the game “CC Sauce” was quoted as saying, “We put up a good fight today, they’re the benchmark. We played as a team probably a little too much today. I think you boys just need to get the ball to me a bit more often and we’ll be a big chance of taking home the silver ware. We’ll be working on getting the ball to me at training this week”.
Ressies awards went to:- Jeremy Blencowe & Brett Monti - Mitchell Street Florist Award, Liam Jukes - Huntly Newsagency Award.
The Under 17’s had a tough day at “the office” against a powerful opposition. The LBU boys were well drilled and had some tall timber that our guys just couldn’t compete with in the aerial duels. The guys started to gel after ½ time and played some good footy at times. They will be much better for the run.
Better players were Dean Foster, Adam Tierney, Sean Hanrahan, Riley White & Ash Manton.
Go the mighty hawks.
Welcome back to our little ones for another season. We would like to welcome to the club Maddy who played her first game with us.
All girls took to the court with great enthusiasm, and played well for there first game.
First game of the season was a tough one.All the girls played well for a new team that have never played together.Defenders Shelby and Jesse worked really hard in defence and stopped a lot of goals. The midcourters and goalers had touble penetrating the Locky defence but to their credit kept fighting on.Valuable experience was gained by all the girls and there is plenty of work to do at training.Best players were Jesse, Brit and Shelby.
Sun shining girls smiling netball season has finally arrived, all players put in for a great first up win
Incentive award
Shelley Tuohey, Jayeden Quin
Well, what a great feeling to get back out on the netball court for the first round of 2011. We travelled to Locky for a sunny, but very windy first game of the season.
Huntly have a new look B Grade side this year. We have all new, first time players to the B Grade team, which also means none of our girls have played together before..
We had a slow start to our opening game against Locky, but once the second quarter come around, I think the girls had warmed up, got rid of the nerves and played some good netball.
At half time it was time for a few changes. The girls come out firing in the third quarter with some great passages of play and we won the quarter by one. Unfortunately I think our girls got a little tired in the last quarter and the Locky girls ran away with it in the end. Credit to our girls for never giving up, as it was very hot..!! Some real potential their girls, lets work hard, stick together and that first win on the board wont be far away. This weeks incentive went to Lua for her great intercepts all around the court..
A new look team this season with a lot of our B grade girls coming up. Girls began well and applied court pressure but Locky were to good on the day
Danni Blencow and Megan Smart
With only one member of our A grade team from last year we welcome our new players to the club and hope they enjoy there season with us. There was some good passages of play throughout the game but again Locky were to strong for us on the day
Alex Rochester, Tiffany Connell
LUB V HUNTLY
G’day Hawks fans and welcome to season 2011.
Firstly we would like to thank our valued sponsors for jumping on board again. Thanks to the generosity of Vaughan Cullen from Australian Mineral & Waterwell Drilling we have a new football jumper and all the feedback we’ve had so far has been extremely positive. Lets hope our fortunes on the footy ground change as well. Major sponsors in Trickey’s Diesel are back on board along with Puggs Irish Bar (Andrew Lethlean) and we thank them for their on-going support.
There have been multiple changes to personnel over the pre-season and it will be interesting to see how our new side goes. We’d like to welcome all our players and fans back to Puggs post game for a meal and a few frothies. Also a reminder of next weeks social event, the “Huntly Cup” (see Danny Beriman for details), that will be held at the rooms after the Elmore game.
Today sees us take on last years runner up in Lockington and it will be a massive challenge for us first up with so many new faces trying to gel together. As Bill “el presidente” Clinton promised there was a full review of the football department at the end of last season. It’s resulted in new Senior Coach Ash “the General” Wilson taking on the role and he has been running the drills in the pre-season like a boot camp. We also have a new Assistant Senior Coach in Stacy ‘I run like Forrest Gump’ Fiske and he has taken the roll on with gusto putting the boys through their paces in the fitness department. “The General” was interviewed during the week to give an insight into how the boys will go and this was his response “Well to be honest we’ve lost a bit of length, when you lose blokes like “Ssh Long” and “Jake the Peg” it leaves you a lot shorter all over the field - more than you would like to be”. “But we have worked hard over the pre-season and bought a lot of nippy blokes into the team and we’ll be trying to get our running game going and hopefully push some of the better teams in the competition. The challenge doesn’t get much bigger than this week though”.
To the Reserves and the reins have been taken over by 2010 Reserves B & F “Sauce (Rhett Canfield) Carey”. After showing outstanding leadership qualities he has put his hand up to be playing coach and lead the way on and off the field. Great work Sauce.
In the under 17’s the coaching role will be filled by the experienced campaigner Merv McClellan. He will be ably assisted by Bruce “Kevin Sheedy” Hanrahan and we wish them along with their “young guns” every success for the season. After a fantastic 2010 it’s been disappointing to have so many of our juniors leave to try their hand in the BFL but hopefully we can get some back in future seasons. They need to know that it’s their club and they are the future of our club moving forward.
We wish all of our new recruits well today and for season 2011. See you back at Puggs.
NETBALL NOTES:
2011 Netball season is finally upon us and with all the pre season training done the girls are keen to take to the courts. A big welcome to all our new players and also to our girls who have stayed with us from last year a huge welcome back and we look forward to watching you as the season gets under way.
We wish our Coaches the very best for the year Raelene Baker, Melissa Mathews and Tammy Gill and also to our Junior Girls who will be assisting Cindy with the D Primary Grade Jenna and Jayedin
Today we take the Courts against Locky so good luck girls and lets bring home the wins.
A big day for three of our teams today, good luck to them all, lets cheer them on and help them into the Grand Final!!! Just a reminder that our Football/Netball Club vote count and presentation night is Friday 24th September 6.30pm at the club rooms, meals will be available at a cost of $10.
FOOTBALL – Under 17’S
Today we play our old rivals in Nth Bendigo. The under 17’s had a hard day at the office last Saturday with the games against LBU one all for the year. They got off to a bad start and let Locky get a three goal lead at the first break and six goal lead at the main break. The boys came out firing in the third and kicked three unanswered goals but it was short lived as Locky then took control of the game. Huntly managed to win the last quarter but it was too late.
Best players were: Ash,Jack,Homer,Quinny,Taigy and Jaydon.
NETBALL
MELANIE BIGGS - 150 GAMES
Mel commenced playing netball for Huntly in 1998 in our A Grade team. In 2001 Mel won the Huntly Best & Fairest for A Grade and took on the coaching role for B Grade. In 2003 and 2006 Mel played in A Grade finals while coaching B Grade and C Grade. In between times Mel has taken a few years off for family reasons and has returned to Huntly in 2009. .
Mel has not only been a wonderful netballer and very speedy midcourt player, but she is also a great asset to the Huntly Football Netball Club. Whether it be scoring or making the fantastic banners for the Club or helping out assisting our younger netball teams, Mel is always there to lend a hand. The Huntly Football Netball Club wish her well today for her 150th game at Huntly and hopefully a Grand Final berth for the A Reserve team and we hope there are many more years to come.
It was a big week end for the Huntly netball teams with all teams involved on both semi finals. It all began on the Saturday at Toolleen with the C grade girls vying for a spot into the grand final. they were well and truly pumped and took to the court knowing they had to stay focused from the start. The first quarter was played at blitzing pace and the team displayed some fantastic netball going into the first break with a handy lead. This set the scene for the remainder of the match and the young hawks earned that spot for the big one Congratulation girls!
Sunday we travelled to Heathcote to continue our campaign the D grade girls were first up and the game was even for the entire match with neither team able to break away it was only in the last few second of the match that a turnover resulted in a goal to north and the girls unfortunately went down by 1 goal. Well done girls on a good season.
Next were the B grade girls and they were pumped and ready to play. The first quarter the team got an early break but in true netball form the Locky girls fought back, the game seesawed for the remainder of the 3 quarters with neither team giving an inch but it was the hawks who managed to pull away in the last quarter to keep their finals hope alive. Fantastic effort girls
A Reserve was up next on the court and they also kept their final campaign alive. All girls played well for the 4 quarters with lots of talk and team work from all over the court, they went on to record a very solid win over Colbinabbin.
A grade was the last of our teams to take to the court and they knew this game would be close and it was just that. From start to finish all girls never gave in but unfortunately at the final whistle we saw our campaign end. Well done girls on a great season.
Today its the prelim and we have the B and A res teams vying for that one spot left on the big day so lets all get all get behind the girls and show them our support!
G’day Hawks fans, welcome to the last home & away game for the year as we head on up the road to take on Leitchville Gunbower. Congratulations to Jesse O’Connell who plays his 100th club game today – well done Jesse and we hope you play another 100 for the Hawks. Before we get to last weeks game here’s a couple of notes to put in your diary :
- HDFL Prelim Final 28th August at Huntly – ALL players required to help on the day.
- Huntly FNC Vote Count / Presentation night – Friday night 24th September (Friday before AFL Grand Final) 6.30pm start. A meal will be available at $10-00 per person.
To last week & the senior side had one last chance to drag Huntly off the bottom of the ladder. The pressure was building (like it was in the bionic fossil when he was looking at pics of Chip’n’Dales girlfriend pre game) and the boys knew there was plenty at stake. With the Hawks down by a goal just before half time the passage of play of the day come along. “Fire Truck Blencoe” kicked in to “I’ve lost my phone again”, a quick hand ball to “Nacho’s with cheese” and the ball was flowing. He handballed to “Man Power” who gave it off to “Ssh Long” who kicked a towering mongrel finger breaker to “Coach Peg”, who used his extra leg to tower over the pack and take a huge grab leaving his opponent with a monster headache. He then gave a quick handball to “I just fell” who ran head first into an elbow, smashing his nose to various parts of the ground (if he wasn’t the next modern miracle for VB he will be now). He shook it off to “Pepper” who kicked it to “Salt” who gave it back to “Pepper” and he then picked out the “Calfling”. Using his old wise head the “Calfling” slowed down the play and kicked into the middle to “Vice Captain Underpants”. Undies handballed to “Captain Singlet” and “Everybody’s brother” then chipped it out to the “Nappy Rash”; he slipped past a few then handballed to “Flanders” who was going so fast his head was wobbling like an Indian snake charmer. Like a target he picked out “Man Boobs”, who gave it to the “Honker”, then back to the “Hooter” and then a massive shepherd from the “Honker” allowed “Hooter” to pick out “Brother of cross thread”. “BOCT” handballed back to “Nightly” who had just put down the mirror he was admiring himself in. He just had time to grab the pill and dance around a couple of opponents like his sat night dance floor moves. He delivered a long ball deep into the heart of the opposition, much like Ssh Long on a Sunday morning. And, as coincidence would have it, there was a towering pack mark taken by the “Pussy Man”. He chipped it over to the “Bionic Fossil” who flexed, knocking out his opposition and quickly popping one of Chippy’s hemorrhoids, he then handballed off to “Mini Me” (a version of himself but with hair) who then waltzed in to the open goal and the Hawks were in front.
It was the only time the Hawks would be in front all day. To their credit the boys tried hard for the reminder of the game but ran out of legs in the end and were disappointingly beaten. It is abundantly clear that extra work needs to be done prior to next season to compete in what is a very tough competition. Congratulations to Ash & Ethan on their first senior games and they acquitted themselves extremely well.
Incentives: Benny (Puggs Drink Card), Dan B (Huntly Hotel Meal), Dusty B (Queens Arms Meal), Borgy & Jaydon (Puggs Meal Vouchers)
To the Ressies and the negotiator was really really feeling the pressure after a week of media scrutiny; was his job on the line? The evil master Bill Clinton was promising cigars all round if the boys could pull one off, but if they blew it there would be massive repercussions the whole way down the chain. The head nurse was feeling the pressure as all the boys lined up for some pregame relaxation, they all needed to be loosy goosey and ready to go for this one. Evo had his normal pregame routine covered and the Nuffy had the oil slick on his melon combed back tight and ready to go. Sauce Carey had covered the greys with a red die, man or beast was pumped up ready to run through brick walls, Crossthread wasn’t sure what he was saying but his words were spoken with passion and in the corner the Topless Strummer was unleashing a few tunes to calm the savage beasts. It was the calm before the storm, the feeling was electric, and everything was on the line today.
The boys ran out and bang quickly kicked the first goal of the day, they were up and about but like big Quick’n’Dale on a Saturday night it didn’t last long, the bubble burst and they were left legless and all rolled over and went to sleep. Clinton was furious “heads will roll, mark my words, heads will roll, and there will be a full review of the football department” he was quoted saying after the game as the negotiator ran for cover - his fate surely sealed.
Incentives: Aaron Cowling (Huntly Hotel Voucher), Rhett & Alex Purtill (Mitchell Street Florist)
To the Under 17’s and the result was pretty much the same as last time with us coming away with an easy win. We take our hats off to the young Colbo side; they never gave up with a number of them being half the size of our guys. Congratulations to Ash Manton on his first senior game last week. It’s great to see that seven of our boys have played senior football this year and acquitted themselves very well. Now to “Gunny” which will surely prove to be a great game of footy today.
Best last week were Josh Homewood, Brett Quinn, Dempsey Roylance, Colby Mountjoy, Sean Hanrahan and Daniel Taig.
Today we congratulate Jesse O’Connell on playing his 100th game for the club. Jesse’s career commenced with the senior club in 2005 following a number of years with the Huntly Junior Football Club. Jesse has progressed through the ranks playing 38 Under 17 games, 9 Reserve games and 53 Senior games. He is a good natured likeable bloke and is one of the real characters of the club. We wish Jesse all the best today and hope he spends plenty more years with the Huntly Hawks.
Wins in all grades last week against Colbo, an excellent lead up to the finals. Good luck today in our last home and away game for the season against Leitchville Gunbower!
Our little hawkers have done us proud each week and today we see them take to the court for their last game for 2010 and although they were much smaller than most of our opposition they still went onto the court and enjoyed their netball. Congratulations and well done to all the girls for a fun filled season and to Cindy their coach on a job well done.
A nail bitter of a game to the end with both sides struggling to capitalize in their goal circles, but to Huntly's credit the girls kept working hard and with crucial intercepts were able to come away with a 4 goal win. 1 game to go before the finals, keep working hard guys and good luck.
Incentive award- Sarah Hamilton for her beautiful intercepts.
The girls came out firing from the start and never looked back with a great solid game by all that took the court. With changes at every quarter and so many different combinations came some beautiful passages of play showing the versatility and strength the team has.
Incentive award- To everyone for their team spirit and support of each other.
Another great game by the team which kept supporters on their toes up until the end.
Jess and Carlee were solid in defence and Sammy’s encouragement and talk was a highlight . Ash and Danni drove the ball well and goalers Meg and Chantelle took every opportunity they were given to come away with a 2 goal win
Incentive award Sammy
The A Reserve team were ready for a tough match against Colbo and a good match it was. All girls played well with accurate goaling and great defensive pressure from the defence end. Huntly played a solid four quarters and Colbo could not match Huntly in any position. Huntly stretching their lead at each break running out comfortable winners on the day. Huntly 53 d Colbo 31. Award to Alex for a great game in defence.
Huntly were ready for a big match after having a slump the last couple of weeks. All players stepped onto the court confident they could take it right up tp Colbo and that they did. With scores even at the final break it was the great defensive work of the midcourt and the two Michelle's which saw Colbo's goalers go off the boil whilst at the other end Huntly's goalers stood strong. A great match by both team and a fantastic effort by all Huntly's players to get the win. Huntly 46 D Colbo 42.
JAMIE LEE CLOHESY - 100 GAMES
Jamie-Lee started playing netball for Huntly in 2005 in our A Reserve team, where they ended Runners Up that year. In 2006 Jamie-Lee moved into A Grade and has played in two A Grade finals in 2006 & 2007. In 2007 Jamie-Lee was Runner Up in the Club Best & Fairest. In 2009 along with Lisa Clohesy, she took on the joint coaching role for A Grade and A Reserve grade.
Jamie-Lee is not only a fantastic netballer and very accurate goaler for Huntly but is a great asset to our Club. She has also helped out with Sponsorship of our netball teams. Jamie-Lee has made many good friends through the Huntly Football Netball Club and we all wish her well today for her 100th game and hope there are many more years to come.
G’day Hawks fans today we face Colbinabbin in what is one of the biggest games for the club in some years so we’re hoping for a bumper crowd and plenty of noise for the young Hawks. We welcome all members and supporters back to the club rooms after the game for a few drinks and a meal of roast chicken & vegies.
In last weeks senior game the Hawks were outplayed by a well drilled North Bendigo outfit. However the scoreboard was not representative of the effort of the boys or the general play of the game. Performances to mention came from Trevor “BOCT” (brother of cross thread) in his best game for the year. He went into the ruck and jumped over the opposition all day to give the Hawks some momentum out of the middle, and his talk was good all day even though an interpreter was required to work out what he was saying.
Captain singlet and VC underpants were good as well getting the ball out of the middle, but the best for the day came from pepper who has been back on the table lately and his form has gotten better with the return. He carved up the opposition through the middle like a butcher cutting up a cow, then pushed forward to slot a couple of super goals from the car park. So, what was this meal missing you may ask, well with every meal you need some salt and then something sweet to finish it off. The salted fossil decided to sell some confectionary and surprisingly the north boys were buying and he made a massive profit.
Incentives : Benny (Puggs Drink Card), Gears (Huntly Hotel Meal), Danny B (Queens Arms Meal), Brenton & Borgy (Puggs Meals).
To the Ressies and the negotiator would’ve been really really pleased to see so many leaders back in his side for the week. With the return of Straun, Sauce Carey, BONS, FROT, the topless strummer, superman, frizz 2 and man or beast recovering from a pinched nerve in his neck the boys would look to mentally wear the opposition down.
They got off to a good start goal for goal early with the opposition, when, all of a sudden there was a massive clash. As superman was running for the ball, he ploughed straight into man or beast, man or beast was unable to see him as since pinching the nerve in his neck last week he was looking into the sky and spotted the wounded albatross flying overhead with his new mate. Superman popped a calf and it sounded like a shot gun, it even woke the head nurse from his slumber. Sauce Carey then took over as captain and all hell broke loose, he moved the topless strummer onto the ball but after weeks of partying with the ladies of the world his fitness was well down and by the second half all the muscles in his body were cramping. Sauce Carey then tried to lift his team but with so many leaders down and out for the day he was unable too and the boys were on the end of a belting.
The negotiator was a really really shattered man after the game. What started so promising had been turned on its head and the only person to blame was the wounded albatross.
Incentives : Rhett (Huntly Hotel Voucher) Farters & Nuffy (Mitchell Street Florist).
The Under 17’s had a tough game against a determined Doggies outfit. Our forward line was under constant pressure and the guys were off target numerous times and unfortunately sprayed a few.
Fortunately they were able to straighten up in the last quarter and came away winners by 3 goals. A couple of the young guns were careful not to get too dirty as they had to front up on Saturday night to the Holy Rosary Deb Ball and didn’t want to spoil their good looks.
Better players last week were Quinny, Ash, Taigy, Jaydon, Josh & Billy.
Huntly v North
A good game by our little ones against north. The girls were evenly matched in height and they worked hard all game at times showing some great ball work, well done keep up the good work.
The girls were under manned going into the game, thank you to Hannah Loundry for stepping up for her first game in D grade and doing a great job. It was a struggle from the start but to the girl’s credit they mightn't have come away with the win but they kept fighting to the end. Keep working hard guys with the finals just around the corner.
Incentive: Hannah Loundry for a great first game in D grade.
Most disciplined: Tahlia Bunt for a disciplined game in WD.
The girls started off strong and went from strength to strength through out the game with some great passages of play and great defence up and down the court from every player. It was a great game to watch, keep up the great work girls with the lead up to the finals.
Incentive: Hannah Comer for a great first game in C grade in goals.
Most disciplined: Cass Barowski for a great game in goals, showing what a versatile player she is.
The girls came out firing and were all pumped to give a good display, the teamwork in the first quarter was excellent with lots of drives through the midcourt and with the defenders turning many balls over for our goalers to capitalize they went on to record a solid win
Incentive award Jess Winchcombe.
G’day Hawks fans, this week we travel down the road to North Bendigo in what will be another massive challenge for our young team. Then it’s back to “Puggs” for a meal and drink. Let’s stick together tonight, remember our motto “one for all and all for one” and enjoy the night. Oh, and don’t forget to check out our newly updated website, go to huntlyfc.vcfl.com.au
To last weeks game and we had another debutant in Josh ‘the cross threaded tek screw’O’Neill play his first senior game. The Hawks put in a poor performance, with their third quarter the only highlight for the day, in what would be their worst result for the year. Post game and Coach Daniel “Matty Knights” Geary made it clear in no uncertain terms that the effort was not acceptable and called a 6am Sunday morning training session. So the big guns turned up ready to rip strips off the playing group and with Bill Clinton and Matty Knights leading the way peeling the paint off the walls and all the hair from Frizzers head, who happened to be standing front & centre, the boys copped the full blast.
From there it was down to the ninja’s dam for a punishing dip in the icy waters. Knights had a word to the salted fossil, “we need to do some team bonding, if you can get bogged down near the dam we’ll get the boys to push you out, it’s a great team building idea”.
The boys cracked the icy top with a pick and then jumped into the freezing water. At first it was painful and then everything went numb. Hooter claimed that he now had an inny, which was something we all suspected anyway. The boys were all rugged up when suddenly a camera appeared, Chip’n’Dale flew into action, quick as a flash all his gear was off and he was flexing and posing for the camera. The bionic fossil was shattered he couldn’t join in as he was stuck in the mud, his titanium rods ceasing to work in the icy waters and the boys had to put a tow rope around him and drag him out. When the salted fossil went to leave (his jealousy at Chip’n’Dale’s hot body growing more by the minute) he went to floor it and run him down. Luckily for Chippy the wheels just spun and salted was bogged to the axles.
The boys tried a few options (pushing it out and then digging it out). Once the bionic fossil thawed out he and Chippy decided they would take one side each and lift it out. With the promise of a quick trip home big Chippy quickly lifted his side and with the bionic fossil taking the other they threw the ute clear of the wet patch, something they both love to sleep in. Once the ute was gone they nestled in for the day and were seen cuddling under the stars in the wet patch later that night.
Incentives: Benny O (Puggs Drink Card), Dusty (Huntly Hotel Voucher), Taco (Queens Arms Meal), Brenton & Dema’s (Puggs Meal Vouchers).
To the Ressies and the negotiator had lost his spiritual leader “Sauce Carey” to the ones due to his super form. Who was going to step up as leader of our super-heroes? It was “man or beast” that put his hand up, fresh from his wrestling tour in the US and nothing would stop this man mountain. However, after some mixed signals from the negotiator, “man or beast” ended up at full back. How could he lift the team from there? By quarter time the great man had a kink in his neck and was unable to take the field for the remainder of the game.
With the head nurse admitting himself to hospital after watching the kangaroos and spraying himself in the eyes with mace, there was no medical help available for the day. With their leader down and out who could step up to fill the void? Nuffy had slipped at work the day before and, landing in some dark thick oil, was unable to see. The “Wounded Albatross” had flown south after last weeks game and had mated up for spring and could not return. Ev was worn out after a big night on the pro tour. With a rudderless ship and the team sheet full the negotiator could do little to help the boys, “I’m really really lost, what can we do boys, can anyone stand up and lead the way for our great club?”. No one was able too and our heroes were humiliated on their home turf. The negotiator promised a week of soul searching to try and uncover a new leader.
Incentives: Farters (Huntly Hotel), Nuffy & Chris Armstrong (Mitchell Street Florist)
To the Under 17’s and it was the best game of footy we have seen all year with both sides having a fair dinkum dip. It was a very even contest for the first three quarters, however, in the last quarter Locky kicked the first two goals to put them in front, but the ypung Hawks clawed there way back, to eventually win by 9 points. Well done boys, but don’t get ahead of yourselves as you will no doubt be playing Locky again.
Better players were Jack, Jaydon, Taigy, Quinny, Jacob & Homer.
A freezing winters day at home last week and some good results on the netball court. Good luck today girls against North Bendigo.
Our little ones were the first out on the court and the cold did not deter there enthusiasm It was an even contest by both teams with some very good court work by all the girls, keep up the good work.
The team played well all game and worked hard at both ends with the goalers scoring and moving very well in the ring. The centre court delivered the ball well into the goalers all game. In the second half the team continued to control the flow of the game and went on to a record the win
.
The game was played aggressively by both teams, providing some excellent passages of play and fast ball movement. The girls provided great drives down the court and onto the ring, with their defensive pressure also providing several turnovers. The goalers were shooting well and the defenders created many turnovers. All the team worked hard and it was a very good game of netball.
The B. Grade team started slowly and found themselves trailing at quarter time. Changes were made and for the next two quarters the girls played good netball to get within one goal at the final break. The last quarter was disappointing as the girls did not go on with it and found themselves trailing by 7 goals at the final siren. Award to Dani for a great game in W.A.
A Reserve Grade
The A. Reserve team started well with the return of Sue to the line up. Huntly dominated in all quarters however it was a scrappy game. Award to Tracey for a solid game in the mid court.
A. Grade stepped on the court knowing not to take Locky lightly. A slow start to the quarter before Huntly stepped up a gear and took control. Huntly won all four quarters in what was not one of Huntlys best games. Award to Jaimee Lee for a solid performance in goals.
G’day Hawks fans, this week we’re at home to Locky in what will be another big challenge for our young team and we look forward to going against one of the best in the competition. After the game we welcome everyone into the rooms for a few frothies and a meal cooked by the Speechley, O’Connell & Kelly families. Also a reminder to see Cindy Sladden if you want to purchase club apparel (polo, hoodie, scarfe etc.).
To last weeks game and the head nurse had a job on his hands when the bionic fossil found a varicose vein on the back of his leg. The tears were running so the head nurse had to perform quick surgery to replace the vein with a titanium rod (Quick’n’Dale was very excited at how fast the head nurse was).
The game was played in ordinary conditions with constant wind and rain throughout the day. The boys got off to a slow start against the reigning premiers kicking with a strong breeze and it ultimately cost us but to the guys credit they battled well for the final 3 quarters.
There were some good performances from some of the young leaders who are starting to step up and drag the side with them. Captain Singlet and Vice Captain Underpants were good all day with their voice continually lifting the side as well as a stand out performance coming from Ssh Long, He’s been struggling this year with bruising to the knees as he comes to grips with a growing body but he shrugged that off on Saturday with the help of a hose wheel to keep himself contained. His new found freedom saw him attacking out of the defensive arc all day. Another standout was “nappy rash” Nash and he made it look like a dry day with some amazing pick ups and grabs of the slippery ball under pressure.
Credit also goes to Pat Long who was moved to full back to quell a rampaging full forward and he put the clamps on to make scoring extremely difficult for the Heathcote side. The bionic fossil had numerous opportunities in the last quarter to get the Hawks closer but missed some easy shots as the new graft (varicose vein replacement surgery) was getting lose and messing with his mechanical action. The head nurse took the blame for this stating it was the quickest surgery of all time, even quicker than big Chippy on a Saturday night.
Incentives went to: Longy (Puggs Drink Card), Benny (Huntly Hotel Meal), Dusty (Queens Arms Meal), Jessie & Pat (Puggs Meal Vouchers)
To the Ressies and there were rumors surfacing that the negotiator was going to return to the playing ranks as the side has been decimated by injuries in recent weeks. There was a buzz around the ground on Saturday morning as the rumors grew louder, then Captain Sauce Carey stepped in, “I’m the number 1 Ranga in this team - we don’t need another coming in, I will lead us to victory today.” The negotiator was shocked, but stepped aside as someone had pulled up at the pub at 3 am the night before and talked some of the locals into pulling on the boots to get the side on the park.
So with the negotiator back in his familiar role and Carey taking over on the ground the team was set for a massive crack. They had recruited Sam “the wounded albatross” Winzar and the big fella was loving the wet conditions flapping and swimming around in the middle of the ground. He flew down to the forward line early and his massive wing span had put the umpire in a trance. He paid the Albatross a free kick just so he could see him fly back to the centre. The Albatross slotted it home and the boys were away. With the lack of fitness with some of the new boys, the backline was under constant attack but luckily Bruno “man or beast” was taking on the role at fullback, constantly suffocating the opposition with his massiveness.
There was no stopping the big man there was no way around him, they had to try and go over him. With many of the boys struggling in the heavy conditions and the Albatross being wounded early breaking a wing after bathing in the middle the boys ran out of legs and in the end were well beaten. The negotiator was furious and ripped strips off sauce Carey for not lifting his team. Sauce Carey then ripped into the head nurse for not conditioning the side appropriately, the head nurse stormed off, took his knee pads and went home. Bill Clinton came into the rooms after the game and promised a full review of the whole football department. The negotiator had the last word saying he would be back, and he’s really really going to play next week.
Incentives : Rhett (Huntly Hotel Meal), Farters & Kingy (Mitchell Street Florist)
The Under 17’s played another great game in trying conditions and ended up big winners. Their big test comes this week when they take on ladder leaders LBU in what should be a great contest. Better players last week were Ash, Taigy, Homer, Anthony Tanner, Jeremy Maher & Billy.
G’day Hawks fans, today we take on the unbeaten Saints in what will be a very tough assignment for our young team. Then tonight it’s back to Puggs for the Awards, a meal and a few frothies, so let’s stick together and keep thick with what our theme song says “one for all and all for one”.
It’s been a tough couple of weeks with a huge injury list growing after the Elmore game and it didn’t get ant better last week against White Hills. On debut was Chris “Tacco” Tucci and with players falling over before the game we had to get a few more Ressie’s to help out.
We also had Sean Hanrahan up from the U/17’s for his second senior game for the season. The boys tried hard throughout the day but were continually let down by skill errors. Tacco however was in scintillating form on debut, bouncing around like a Mexican jumping bean he was everywhere, taking marks, collecting kicks & handballs and covering his opponent like a thick hot salsa.
The other player to lead the way was captain singlet, in what was another fine display he knocked up getting the ball. He’s been in great touch this year and the weekend was another example of his super form. In the end however the job was left to too few and the boys went down in a disappointing loss.
Incentives: Brenton (Puggs Drink Card), Tacco (Huntly Hotel Meal Voucher), Jaydon (Queens Arms Meal Voucher), Benny & Longy (Puggs Meals).
With the huge injury list in the senior side the Ressies were down a bit on numbers. Missing both the Frisbee’s the negotiator only had Captain Carey to look to for leadership this week, and the captain come up with a saucey plan. Lads this week we are going to follow the labor party, I am your leader and a natural sauce head. I have bought some hair die for everyone we are going to all go Red instead.
Even the head nurse got in on the new plan, and I must say he looks a treat with ginger locks. So the boys went out and used the power of the ranga to try and work up their second win of the year. They were in the game for a long time, but then after half time the die started to run Carey had purchased home brand die and the sweat started to wear away big red droplets all down the jumpers of the players, it looked like a blood bath. As the hair die ran out so did the power it had put over the young team and the boys were eventually over run. Carey Captain Sauce was devastated, his plan was working so well only to be foiled by cheap hair die.
Incentives: Rhett (Huntly Hotel Meal Voucher) Brett Hartley & Josh Leech (Mitchell Street Florist)
The Under 17’s played well against the Hillys. With a few away and three playing with the seniors once again, most of the boys stood up to the challenge, coming away with a 70 point win. Special mention must go to our backmen as they once again did a great job. Best were Josh Homewood, Brett Quinn, Luke Nash, Daniel Taig, Anthony Tanner and Sean Hanrahan.
Social notes: Don’t forget the $1,000 draw on Sunday 1st August (after Colbo game). Cost $25-00 each (see Ninger or Byrnesy for tickets)
G’day Hawks fans, today we take on the White Hills boys again. We’d like to welcome all members and supporters back to the rooms after the game. Then it’s the Trivia Night – meals from 6.00pm then 7.00pm start, cost $20-00 pp or $40-00 per family.
To last week, the boys were over at Tooleen to take on Mounts and with many injuries to key players it was always going to be tough. We had Tizza and Jacky D coming in for their first senior games for the year. The first quarter saw Mounts jump the Hawks with our hero’s pulling back a couple of late goals to be down by 3 goals at 1/4 time.
In the 2nd the Hawks started to dominate out of the middle with big Quicky, Pepper O’Sullivan & Captain Singlet controlling the middle, in the forward line the Kitten Man was presenting well and young JD sparked the Hawks with some hard running and showing a bit of skill, all this culminated in us scoring multiple goals.
However the quarter was turned on its head when Troy ‘the glove’ Cravino was knocked unconscious and had his lip torn into 4 pieces. The head nurse thought he was in a war zone when not long after Clint ‘only one arm works’ Grenfell snapped his finger clean off. The head nurse was quoted as saying, “there were body parts everywhere, I just had to gather them up and put them all on ice. The ambo’s can work out what belong’s to who. Plus I still can’t see properly from the pepper spray in my eyes.” So “one arm” now only has half a hand that works as well, he has since retired and will now be playing soccer.
Adding to this was an injury to big rough tongue Quicky, he was quickly off the ground not to return. After half time and with minimal bench left to make changes the Hawks struggled to keep up with the Mounts side who ran out easy winners.
Incentives for the day went to: Gears (Puggs Drink Card), Brenton (Huntly Hotel) Ben (Queens Arms), Longy (Puggs Meal Voucher)
In the Ressies, after a massive win the previous week, the boys were going in on a high however after a massive week of celebrations the boys had a winning day hangover. The negotiator had been bouncing around all week after his victorious day as their great leader, and his celebrations from that night, but he was really confident of another victory.
However with injuries to the seniors and a freak accident with the Sea Sheppard through the week (he was handling some of his precious cargo when he slipped and fell all the weight was taken by his shoulder which fell out onto the ground). As a consequence he will miss the rest of the year.
With the Sheppard out and superman laid up after having his knee replaced, their was only one leader left on the field, Captain Bons Carey. He threw himself into defense as the boys were under immense pressure, the ball was coming in like bombing raids. Bons Carey in a massive show of courage ran hard back into the goal square to try and block an opposition shot at goal, he got a finger to it but ran head first into the goal post. With parts of his face smeared either side of the post, the goal umpire fainted and they had to share the same ambulance into town. The head nurse still couldn’t see anything so it was up to Bons Carey to tape his own head back together for the trip into town. It was a very ugly sight from a man who is usually such a pretty picture. After losing their last leader the boys struggled to hang on and were well beaten in the finish.
Incentives: Jon Beattie (Huntly Hotel) Chris Tucci & Rhett Canfield (Mitchell Street Florist)
The Under 17’s had another big win and has cemented their place in 2nd spot. With four guys playing seniors it was great to see the rest of the team play good consistent footy. Better players were Alex Purtill, Colby Mountjoy, Ash Manton, Braiden Tuohey, Jake Davis and Sean Hanranhan
G’day Hawks fans, today we take on Mount’s again and we need to play 4 quarters of football to get a win. After the game it’s back to Puggs for a meal and a few frothies. A few notes on last week’s Annual Ball. I’m told the head nurse was very careful leaving the Boardwalk for fear of getting “capsicum sprayed” again and the negotiator had a huge smile on his face (I’ve got a feeling he thought he was going to get lucky). Thanks to Ash & Pos for organizing a great night. Also remember to get a ticket to the “High Flying Hawks Club” Luncheon (next week v White Hills). Guest speaker Hawthorn legend Peter Knights $60 per ticket (includes lunch and drinks). See Slads or Fay for your ticket.
To last week, the boys put in a big effort against Elmore but having many players injured and unable to finish the game we faded in the last ¼. The boys welcomed back big Quick’n’Dale after he recovered from a slightly bruised toe but lost Waterproof Undies after he woke up and couldn’t get his hair to sit right (there was no way he could go out in public). We also welcomed young Taigy up from the U17’s for his first senior game and he settled into the backline next to Ssh ‘Long’, SOS, Manpower & and The Kitten Man.
All the boys again had very solid games spoiling and rebounding well for much of the game. It was a tight contest early on with both sides going goal for goal. Captain Singlet & Vice Captain underpants doing some nice things around the ground, keeping the Hawks in touch, however at ½ time Elmore still held a comfortable lead. Then came the move of the day putting Salt & Pepper in the middle, they spend a lot of time on the table together and the bond between them showed as the Hawks were able to drive the ball out of the middle and get to within 4 points, halfway through the third term.
The partnership was broken however and with injuries racking up and the head nurse under immense pressure - he was quoted after the game saying “I take the blame for this one, I couldn’t keep up with the injuries after a big night of drinking and dancing last night, but I will back it up.” There were some highlights however at the ball and later in the evening with PDA’s going to Quick’n’Dale and Nescafe. Also backing it up the next day was Man boobs who had a dance off with the mechanical knee to a song by a little boy.
Incentives: Brenton O’Connell (Puggs drink card), Ben O’Sullivan (Huntly Hotel Award), Brodie (Queens Arms Voucher), Matty & Mounty (Puggs meals).
To the Ressies, In a cruel twist of fate Superman had a massive chunk of kryptonite lodged in his knee through the week and had to pull out. With that the man with the leggo man hair cut who likes to pay ‘evo’ was thrown into the brains trust. He come up with a great plan for Friday night pre game, the boys were not to eat on Friday night and release as much energy as possible so they were totally relaxed for the game.
Come Saturday morning and the plan had worked to a tee with all the boys minds totally focused on winning the game the negotiator delivered a speech that would come to be known as the deliverance as it delivered the boys their first win of the year. It went a little like this “Boys I think we’ve come up with a really really good game plan today, if we really stick to it, we really can win this game” a hush went through the room “I really wasn’t going to let this out, but if we win today, well I’m really on a promise for the night, if we can get a win, I’ll achieve what I have always really really wanted to” The look of determination on the boys eyes as they left the room had to be seen to be believed.
The rest is history, the boys went out and delivered the first victory of the year. With Captain Carey showing leadership as stand in captain and celebrating goals like Akermanis and then telling everyone how well he played later in the night. Their was no one happier than their great leader The Negotiator after the game, smiling and purring like a cat that got the cream. He was seen leaving the ball later in the night and was quoted as saying “I’m really a winner and I’m a really really good thing tonight”
Incentives: Josh O’Neill (Huntly Hotel Award), James Summerhayes & Chris Tucci.
The Under 17’s had another big win against Elmore. They continue to play good team footy and training with the senior group has really paid off for the guys. I’m positive some of them will get an opportunity for a senior call up in the coming weeks which is a great sign for the future of the club.
Better players were Jack Daley, Jaydon Cowling, Ash Manton, Shaun Hanrahan, Colby Mountjoy and Jake Davis.
G’day Hawks fans, today we are at home to Elmore. We have had some good efforts in recent times against Elmore and look forward to another one today. We’d like to welcome all members and supporters back to our rooms after the game and then it’s onto the Boardwalk Restaurant for our Annual Ball. I’m sure it’ll be a great night. Don’t forget to let your friends know about the “High Flying Hawks Club” luncheon on 3rd July (Huntly v White Hills game) Cost $60 pp (includes 2 course meal & drinks from 12.00 – 2.00). See Slads or Fay for tickets.
Two weeks ago we saw the boys at home to Leitchville-Gunbower, in what was a massive blow for the side and the club the boys were well beaten on the day. There were however a few highlights on the day. The bionic man was back to his chest puffing best, wiping off numerous opponents like flies. He has come up with a new goal kicking routine, on the morning before the game he watches himself flexing in the mirror for a half hour so he’s not so surprised when he catches a glimpse of the cannons as he’s running in to kick. The new routine worked to devastating effect as he kicked 8 goals, in one of the few highlights for the day.
The backline was again very solid. The form of man power and the young cat man this year has been outstanding given the way the ball has come in to the opposition forward linesm, they have been like SOS and Jacovitch. The young guns Cowling & Nash again showed they are the future of the club and again put in solid performances with flashes of brilliance. Also there was another solid performance from everyone’s brother Captain Singlet. He leads the way playing with the spirit of his ancestors showing all the passion a leader should.
Incentives went to: Daniel Sladden (Puggs Drink Card), Pat Long (Huntly Hotel Meal), Alex Demeo (Queens Arms Hotel), Dan Berriman & Matt Rule (Puggs Meals).
Thanks again to the “Boys behind the Goals” for their award. It went to Luke Nash.
In the Ressies the boys were again close to breaking through for their maiden win. The brains trust was all back together, with the negotiator, captain apology and superman all pushing for a victory. There was an extra special reason to push hard, as it was the topless strummer’s last game. He’s left for a world tour, strumming all over the place. The brains trust thought it was a good idea to put the strummer in front of the boy’s pre game and give them a stirring speech. It went like this,”you blokes need to really dig deep today and lift for my last game. I’m the heart and soul of this club. I’m taking my songs of joy around the world to spread the love to my fellow man so you blokes better get me a win before I go.” The boys fired up for the strummer but again fell just short in what was a heart breaking finish to the career of the strummer.
Captain apology felt that he had let the boys down and gave this speech. “boys I’m sorry I have let you down, I feel like I am a sheppard and you are my flock. Today I led you into the deep waters and you were hunted down by the opposition. So I apologize for my behaviour and not acting like a true leader, I will be doing my best to not allow that to happen again.” The head nurse had a chuckle at the apology as he thought to himself he’ll be back apologising again next week.
Incentives: Brad Tyrell (Huntly Hotel Voucher), Jon Beattie & Al Friswell (Mitchell Street Florist)
To the Under 17’s and Mid way through the season and the boys showed how all the training and hard work pays off, by coming away with a good win against a well drilled LG side. The boys played as a team with our better players bringing there team mates into the game which resulted in everyone playing well.
Best: Jack Daley, Daniel Taig, Jacob Bryant, Brett Quinn and Luke Nash.

G’day Hawks fans, today sees us take on Colbinabbin for what will be another big challenge for our footy teams, after the disappointments of the last few weeks we are desperate to turn things around. But firstly on the social scene and it’s back to the clubrooms tonight for the “Mystery Flight” night. See Ash or Pos for details. Oh, and in further news, the topless strummer, Lizard, Kenny and Cam King have put together a CD about a few of the boys at the club. It is very entertaining, priced at $15 and goes on sale this weekend. Place your order with Rhett ‘Carey’ Canfield.
To our previous game and it was a total disappointment, perhaps the lovely tones of the pre-game national anthem had put our players to sleep as an 8 goal to 1 thumping in the first term certainly seemed like a bad dream. Although the boys seemed to lift from that point another snooze in the last quarter gave the Hawks a spanking the likes of which haven’t been seen since the revocation of corporal punishment.
There were a few players who did a fantastic job given the circumstances, the “Kitty man” did another fine job in the backline. His competing and ability to win the ball back in “one on one” contests this year has been outstanding. He continually rips the ball off the opposition like taking candy from a baby, his heroics from last years footy trip really seems to have lifted his confidence and he’s carried his form through well.
The other player to do a wonderful job was the other half of our dynamic duo man power. His flowing hair, sexy eyes and hot body must have put the opposition in a trance as there was no way they could concentrate and “Man Power” took full advantage stopping numerous opposition attacks for the day. In a disappointing day if it was not for the efforts of the dynamic duo things would’ve been a lot worse.
Incentives for the day went to Pat Long (Puggs Drink Card), Brodie (Queens Arms Voucher), Dema’s (Huntly Hotel) and “Boys behind the goals” award, Troy & Jezza (Puggs Meal Vouchers).
To the Ressies, unfortunately the negotiator had fallen victim to the pressures of the industry and was admitted to a health camp for the weekend. He was told he would need to drink a lot of fluids and talk a lot of rubbish to purify his body for the second half of the season. Adding to this was the continued loss of the “Sea Sheppard” on bigger duties and our hierarchy of hero’s was reduced from 3 to 1. That’s right our mild mannered unassuming hero Friz 2 (superman) had do it all, captain, coach and inspirational leader on the ground, in the showers, at the pub - he was leading the way.
Superman had a secret weapon hidden somewhere, the topless strummer was back and ready to unleash his best after recovering from ripping his thigh off the bone a few weeks prior. Nuffy had eventually cleaned all the mud from himself and was back in the middle and Carey was back in the forward line puffing his chest out like a horny ostrich. Pregame things were looking good for our heroes. Once the game started however the Hawks took a massive blow when the topless strummer running flat out for a ball dived across the boundary line and went head first into the fence. The head nurse was quickly on the scene attending to the strummer who’s head was split in 2, he was quoted as saying “I had to put his head back together like humpty dumpty and use three roles of tape to hold it together” The strummer was dazed and confused for the rest of the arvo and the Huntly boys had unleashed there own kryptonite on superman, and the boys fell to another loss.
Incentives went to Hayden Mountjoy (Huntly Hotel) John Beattie and Mitch Brown (Mitchell Street Florist).
The Under 17’s had an ordinary day and went down to a far more disciplined North Bendigo outfit. It shows that ALL the guys need to get on the track and work hard if they want to be finals contenders. Better players were Ash Manton, Jacob Bryant, Alex Purtill, Sean Hanrahan, Jayden Hocking and Daniel Taig.
G’day Hawks fans, today we congratulate Troy Cravino on playing his 150th game for the club. Troy, who started playing with Huntly as a 14 year old, is a fantastic and loyal clubman and we all applaud him on his achievement. To today’s game against traditional foes North Bendigo playing for the “Golden City Cup”. This has unfortunately never been won by the Hawks and we will be putting in a massive effort to turn that around today. We welcome all supporters back to the clubrooms after the game for a meal and drinks.
To last week’s senior game, we welcomed back Kye ‘waterproof underwear’ Donohue, unfortunately though Ben ‘the elephant man’ O’Sullivan was unable to take his place in the side and was a late withdrawal. Reports from the ‘head nurse’ come through that he had slipped in the shower and had badly stubbed his toe. With the unsettling of the midfield Charlie ‘Quick n Dale’ set about restructuring the midfield, to hopefully get some quick tap outs so that we could quickly move the ball into the forward line. ‘Quick n Dale’ was quoted after the game as saying ‘we were slow to move in the midfield early, it was quite upsetting for me, I like things to move quick, that is my style’. Indeed the boys were off to a slow start and were well down at quarter time.
In the second quarter the midfield got off to a quick start, ‘Quick n Dale’ was smiling with the boys repeatedly kicking the ball down to ‘Saxa’, ‘The bionic man’ & Trev ‘the ladies man’ Borg. ‘The ladies man’ was moving like a gazelle around centre half forward giving the midfield a great target to kick to. Unfortunately ‘Saxas’ form in front of goal was very shaky, repeatedly missing easy shots at goal. He was quoted as saying ‘I couldn’t breath out there, the flies were so thick I was choking’ but we all know the only choking he was doing was in front of the big sticks. In the second half the boys didn’t go much better in what was a disappointing performance.
The boys in the back half however were outstanding under the constant pressure, with ‘Man Power’, ‘sshh’ Long and the ‘Posse Man’ doing sterling jobs, however some of the best spoils for the day come from coach ‘Jake the Peg’ Geary. At one stage a high ball come into the Lockington forward line ‘Jake the Peg’ jumped straight over a pack of 15 players in a super human effort and punched the ball that hard it was found the next day in Elmore.
Incentives for the day went to Troy Cravino(Puggs Drink Voucher), Dan Beriman (Queens Arms Meal), Dusty Beriman (Huntly Hotel Meal) & Trev Borg (Puggs Meal)
For the reserves it was another tough day at the office. To start the day off 8 of the selected players somehow got lost on the way to the ground. Apparently a massive swarm of locusts hit their cars at a critical turn and they ended up in Balranald. It put a massive dent in the plans of the ‘negotiator’, who was really disappointed after doing a lot of work in preparation for the game. So the ‘negotiator’ and ‘Friz 2’ had to put a new plan together for the game, as the brains trust was still missing on senior duties.
It went something like this ‘we will get the topless strummer to run messages for the day, as we’re short on in the midfield we’ll put ‘I think I’m Carey’ down back to sure things up and we’ll punish the opposition on the rebound. If ‘I think I’m Carey’ has a really good game we’ll be a really good chance of winning. The plan was all good except ‘I think I’m Carey’ was texting various women and missed the speech and didn’t realize he was in the backline. He was quoted after the game ‘I am the best forward in the league, I should’ve been playing forward, if the boys got on my back I could carry them to victory’. Unfortunately ‘I think I’m Carey’s’ direct opponents kicked 15 goals between them for the day and another well thought out game plan was foiled. After the game the ‘negotiator’ was really disappointed, putting the blame right on Carey’s ample shoulders, saying ‘I was really disappointed, Carey missed my speech and we really had no other game plan, the topless strummer was trying to run Carey a message he tried really really hard, but he really couldn’t catch him with the 3 foot tear in his quad.
Incentives went to Zac Runnalls (Huntly Hotel Meal), Alan Friswell & Josh O’Neil (Mitchell Street Florist).
The Under 17’s had a tough day last week against the now undefeated LBU outfit. They were outclassed on the day and will have to continue to improve to truly be a contender this season. Awards went to Taigy, Billy, Homer, Asha & Davo.
G’day Hawks fans, today will be another big challenge for our young side as we take on the LBU boys who have been in hot form of recent weeks. After the game we welcome all members and supporters back to Puggs for a meal a few beverages and the players awards.
In the seniors last week the Hawks got off to a disappointing start kicking with the wind in the first quarter but they were well down at quarter time. They needed some inspiration and it was left to Ninga “the ninja” to spur the side into action. He quietly pulled aside the vice captain and told him there would be a ban on seeing Ash for the week if he didn’t start showing some passion. His obvious affection shone through, he was a man possessed like Bobby Bouchea and he laid 47 tackles for the rest of the game leading the Hawks come back.
In the third term the Hawks got right back into the game getting within a goal as Chip n Dale, Nescafe Blend 43, Captain Singlet and Bobby Bouchea taking control in the middle. Their work was being well finished off by the forwards until the bionic man had a lapse of concentration. Unfortunately Danny ‘Saxa white table salt’ Beriman couldn’t get back in time to give the bionic man something to aim at, and as the bionic man come in to kick he was distracted by his own guns. Once he had a glimpse of them he was unable to take his eyes off them, shanking kicks as he admired his huge cannons.
At ¾ time he was seen giving Saxa a huge and well deserved spray threatening to shake him all over the ground if he didn’t lift his effort. Unfortunately the Hawks faded in the last quarter to be soundly beaten. The backline did a wonderful job all day given the opposition attacks were coming in like the waves at Bondi. Alex ‘the posse man’ Demeo having another stand out performance, along with Man Power and the most well named man outside of Roughhead, Brett ‘ssshh’ Long.
Incentives for the day went to Leigh (Puggs drink card), Brenton (Queens Arm meal), Dema’s & Dusty (Puggs meal vouchers). Incentives : Shaun (Mountjoy Wool Award), Brenton, Dema’s & Jesse. Thanks again to the “boys behind the goals” for their award. The winners were Brodie (No. 18) & Jesse (No. 20).
In the reserves the boys unfortunately had another loss. In this episode the boys lost our hero and part of the brains trust “Friz 1” to the senior side. They called on the topless strummer Cam King to replace their inspirational leader. After being fired up by a really good pre game speech from “the negotiator”, the boys were really really ready to go out and give a really good account of themselves and really tackle hard and really man up and really play some good footy.
However in a massive blow the topless strummer had a pre game warm up incident. The “head nurse” was quoted as saying ‘it sounded like a car being torn apart’ as the strummer was left in shock, his right thigh half dangling off his body after his first kick. He had one of the “head nurse’s” apprentices look at it and after a half hour of intense medical & physical examination even the cough test was used, it was decided he had indeed torn the thigh. It must have been a total inspiration for his team mates as he ran out on the ground with his leg held together by 3 rolls of tape.
One man who was certainly inspired was the sauced headed man mountain Rhett ‘ I kicked a few now I’m Wayne Carey’ Canfield. Throwing his ample body weight at every contest he destroyed the opposition leaving them lying on the ground like fish out of water flapping around and gasping for air. However with the brains trust missing and the strummer out of action early the Hawks were always up against it and in the end they were defeated. Incentives, sponsored again by Mitchell Street Florist went to Ryan Barker, Brett Hartley & Rhett Canfield.
To the Under 17’s and it was a very powerful display from the boys. They dominated from the 1st bounce and showed again how their teamwork and unselfish play was instrumental in coming away with a percentage boosting 32 goal win. Well done guys in a great team effort. Award winners were: Billy Landry, Shaun Hanrahan, Josh Homewood, Daniel Taig & Alex Purtill.
G’day Hawks fans, today we take on the reigning premiers Heathcote in what will be a massive challenge for our young side and one that we look forward to. After the game this week we would like to welcome you all into the club rooms for a social drink before we head off to our major sponsor Pugg Mahones for another great night. The reports from everyone that attended Puggs last Saturday night were fantastic. Everyone had a really enjoyable night with great food, great atmosphere and everyone enjoying each others company.
To last week and what a great victory to the seniors after looking down and out half way through the last quarter. It was a massive effort to get up and win. In what was our first away win for years and the first time the senior’s have won 2 games in a row for 8 seasons. It has been a massive effort so far from this young team helped out by a handful of pensioners, and if the young guys stick together they have the chance of some very successful years ahead of them.
The boys seemed a bit flat for most of the game after the previous week’s victory, and there were some massive performances in the last quarter to get the side home. As with all wins it starts in the middle and big Chip n Dale was inspirational for most of the day but in the last quarter he took control in the ruck. Jumping into the opposition and throwing hay makers at the ball that looked like a big windmill smashing the ball forward for the on ball division to run on to.
As usual he had the mongrel finger breakers hitting the forwards between the eyes. Unfortunately Benny ‘the elephant man’ Sullivan forgot to put his hands up for one of Chip n Dale’s passes, and had his nose splattered all over his face. The “head nurse” was quoted as saying “It was very ugly, one of the worst facial injuries I have seen and would’ve been the same as walking head first into a truck”. Of course this did not stop “the elephant man” from returning, he merely taped all the bits of nose back onto his face and his last quarter was an inspiration.
No one can be sure if the opposition was simply scared of the creature with the distorted melon but they could not get near him.
In further news he has been offered a spot on the up and coming series beauty and the beast as there will be no make up required. Now when the game is on the line leaders stand up and the VC really stood up when the game looked dead and buried. His last 10 minutes of football on Saturday went a long way to winning us the game. Dusty ‘the hulk’ Beriman turned as green as his gills were the Saturday before and like the hulk he tore it up. Continually ripping the ball out of the middle and laying some crunching tackles that took its toll on the opposition, it wasn’t pretty but it was very effective, and after a quiet game until then he really showed that if you keep persisting eventually things will turn for you. A mention also needs to go to our two midgets, the “wood duck” (who played his last game for the year as he is going overseas and will be sorely missed) and the “cuppa”.
Both of these blokes bounce around like Kobe, the “cuppa” was great all day weaving his magic like Merlin he gets out of hot spots and leaves the opposition in knots. And the “wood duck” had a quiet early part of the game by his standards but did he come alive in the last quarter, he definitely had some sort of magnetic device on the ball as he racked up the possies in the last.
It did take him some time to work out how to direct the magnet threw the big sticks but he managed to kick the winning goal and received a fitting send off for a young bloke that gives so much. He epitomizes the attitude and work ethic that the Huntly Football Club is looking to uphold week in and week out, it sad to see the duck fly away. Another mention needs to go to the whole of the back line, especially the big boys, Brodie ‘Silvagni’, Trevor ‘Borginator’ Borg and Brett ‘I have the most appropriate last name ever’ Long. They, along with Matt “the Ruler” who played his best game for the club, did a super job in the air like fighter pilots continually shooting down the opposition attacks with brilliant spoils. They really kept the side in the game for a long period with their fighting spirit.
Incentives went to Ruler (Puggs drink voucher), Brode’s (Queens Arms meal), Cap’t Bazza & Charlie (Puggs meal vouchers), Nashy, Dema’s, Troy & Mounty.
In the Reserves the boys went down in a close hard fought game and a win can’t be too far away. After last weeks blinding episode the boys decided given the conditions after the rain to try a new tactic, they had all bought their sunnies this week but as there was no sun the tactic wasn’t going to work. So coach Robbie ‘the negotiator’ Runnalls told “Friz 1” and “Friz 2” to put there heads together and come up with a new tactic.
After some confusion the boys were separated by the “head nurse” and they set about their new task. At quarter time they called the boys in and decided camouflage would be their tactic for the week. They decided that if they all had a massive mud wrestle in the second quarter they would blend in with the ground and the opposition would be unable to see them. Again however the opposition brains trust was awake to the Hawks cunning tactic and when the Hawks went in for the mud wrestle all the opposition joined them, it was like feeding time at the piggery, bodies going everywhere and the mud flying. In the end it made for a close game and one that the Hawks were disappointed to let slip away.
There was one casualty from the game with new recruit Nathan “Nuffy” being stuck in the mud for the entire second half. Once “twinkle toes” worked out the team was a jumper short he turned on the GPS tracking system that he had sewn into all the jumpers and found “Nuffy” still in the middle of the ground. Once he was pulled from the mud and revived by the “head nurse”, the mud had already soaked in so far that when “twinks” pulled his jumper off they all thought it was “Bazza”.
The incentives, donated by Mitchell Street Florist, went to Brett “Farters” Hartley, Rhett “Redda” Canfield & Mitch Brown.
Once again our Under 17’s had a good win against the Hilly’s. It was an even first quarter but three quick goals in the second quarter put us in a good position as conditions were very wet and goals hard to come by. The rest of the game was well fought out by both teams. The guys are teaming really well together and are showing that they are a group of absolute “goers”. All the guys played well with Nashy having the ball on a string being our best followed by Billy, Asha, Jacob, Seany and H.
Go Hawks
G‘day Hawks fans, today we take on White Hills which will be a tough encounter in both the football and netball. After the game it’s back to Pugg Mahones in Bull Street and it would be great to get everyone back to there for a meal and a few quiet drinks. We have had some new sponsors jump on board in the last couple of weeks. Thanks to Underground Cable Systems P/L for supplying the match day footballs this season and Norm & Gloria Quin’s Bluebird Fruiters (the bananas definitely made the difference last week).
Now to reflect on last weeks games and what a fantastic effort to win a game against the previously unbeaten Mounts. In what was a real team performance it would have been hard to come up with the best, as there was such a wide spread of players that did their job on the day to help the senior side to a great win early in the year.
Some special mentions need to be made however, firstly to Brodie ‘Man Power’ and Charlie ‘Chip n Dale’ we needed some poster boys for the pre game photo’s and these two blokes turned up with full make up and hair done to a treat. It’s said that they looked so hot the photographer had to be fanned down and needed a glass of water. Then in walked the “Head Nurse”, a man possessed with taking any opportunity to get his head and freshly slicked back hair into a photo.
Ok then, onto the game, and Man Power and Chip n dale continued their good form. Man Power playing full back was like a fire blanket in defense smothering any chance of the opposition turning up the heat. Chip n Dale was great in the middle continuously firing mongrel finger breaking punts lace out to the forwards.
However the performance of the day came from the debutant Luke ‘Nappy Rash’ Nash. I’m not sure how long he’s been out of the nappies but it can’t have been long. His performance to nearly single handedly keep the team in the game in the first quarter was super impressive. Playing on a wing he was everywhere, and bounding around the ground like a kangaroo, he was cutting off opposition attacks and rebounding like “The Shaq”.
Another good performance was put in by our other young gun Jaydon ‘The Kid’ Cowling. He was fantastic again on his wing running all day and showing the courage of a lion on many occasions throughout the game. These 2 young blokes really lead the way and showed some great leadership qualities for the future. The other player to light the Hawks up early was one of our pensioners Dan ‘The Bionic Man’ Sladden, as he has had parts of his body totally replaced by mechanical devices which would be required of the “old man” of the team. He was showing strength treating his opponent’s like rag dolls early and following through with accuracy all day, even before the game.
There were so many other good players on the day that it’s hard to mention them all. Special mention needs to be made of Bazza “Captain Singlet” O’Connell. Since being awarded the captaincy he has taken his game to a new level, like the energizer bunny he just keeps going all day and his use of the ball has been outstanding. He has really been leading the way but his deputy, “Captain Underpants” showed more leadership on the mystery bus tour, his performance was nothing short of outstanding.
We’d also like to acknowledge another sponsor in Mal Johnson at Meat Matters Eaglehawk for buying the boys a round of drinks after the game, it was much appreciated. Also to the Osborne Brothers, Andrew Healey & “the boys behind the goals” not only their support throughout the game but for sponsoring an award, which was taken out by Jaydon Cowling.
Other incentives for the day went to Luke Nash (Queens Arms Hotel), Jaydon Cowling (Underground Cables P/L), Alex Demeo (Capstone Financial Planning), Brode’s, Longy, Slads & Paddy (Pugg Mahones meals), Shauno, Ruler & Troy.
To the Ressies, they also had team photo’s pre game and, you guessed it, Peter “Head Nurse” was in every frame, like a moth to a light, where ever there was a camera he was there. He had in some special hair gel and was heard telling one of the players earlier in the day that he had watched “something about Mary” the night before.
The game was played in warm and sunny conditions and a clever new tactic was used by one of our crafty leaders Frizza (Chris), given the sunny conditions he decided to remove all the hair from his melon, which incidentally has more dents in it than Dusty’s car. The reflection coming from the “nude nut” was blinding - the problem was he hadn’t told any of his team mates of this new tactic and none of them could see the ball. This tactic was made worse by the fact the opposition had turned up with their sunnies on, as they also had used the tactic unveiling the legs of Daniel Clancy King, the light was so bright coming off his legs that some of the players had to be admitted for retinal scans post game. Needless to say the opposition handled the unusual conditions better and ran away with a victory.
Robbie was very disappointed after the game giving Frizza a bake like a Sunday roast. No doubt he will show better communication with his teams mates in the coming weeks before unveiling any more surprise tactics.
The incentives donated by Mitchell Street Florist were Chris Friswell, Alan Friswell and Daniel Nelson.
The U17's had another big win with conditions perfect for footy.
We were off to a pretty even start then took hold of the game in the 2nd quarter.
Great job to our back line which was very quiet at times but the boys stayed at their posts.
A good job by all. I know it’s only early in the season but the boys are looking pretty sharp at this stage. They are working hard on the track and that will hold them all in good stead for some tough games in the coming weeks. Better players last week were Sean, Homer, Asha, Taigsy, Billy and Colby.
Hello Hawks Fans. This weeks game sees us take on Mount Pleasant. After the game we will be back in our social rooms for a few beverages and the awards for the day and we would like to welcome all members and supporters to join us.
Tonight we have our annual “mystery bus tour” and this one is always a gem so make sure you get yourself a seat. To book a seat please see Ash O’Connell or Poss. Ok now to last weeks games, firstly to the senior side and the Hawks put up a gallant performance in their first game for the year. We seemed to run out of steam a little in the second half with a few players going in a little underdone.
Our new recruits performed well with some of them introducing themselves to team mates before the game. There were some great debut performances particularly from Jaydon Cowling coming up from the Under 17’s.
Other good performers making a debut for the club were Leigh Coffey, Clint Grenfell and Kye Donohue. Unfortunately Kye snapped his hamstring in an incident after kicking the ball forward. Peter ‘the head nurse’ Hromenko was quoted as saying it sounded like a shot from a gun and Kye’s leg was left to dangle in the breeze. Luckily for us he is tough as nails so I would expect to see him only miss 1 or 2 weeks. Special mention also needs to be made of Alex ‘the young cat man’ Demeo with a performance that defied logic, like flies to a dung heap he was all over his opponents for the day and was rebounding like a brick wall out of defense.
Incentives for the day went to Bazza , Jaydon, Dema’s, Ruler, Shaun and Troy.
Also congratulations to our new Senior Captain, Brenton ‘we can only see his singlet in the dark’ O’Connell and Vice Captain Dusty ‘there is another dent in my car’ Beriman.
In the Reserves many of the boys were also coming together for the first time. A few of the boys looked a little under done and in the end were run off their feet by a well drilled Elmore outfit. A few lighter moments for the day were provided by Bruno and Eddy as some of the opposition thought they would take them on until they turned around and saw the big units. No doubt it put the fear of god into them as they ran with the tail between their legs. Along with the incentive winners, the game of John ‘the glove’ Beattie also needs to be acknowledged as he was sticking to his man like a well fitting glove and not even letting wind get into the back line. Unfortunately Evan ‘I didn’t call her’ Campbell couldn’t play on Saturday, apparently he was conserving energy for an important date that he didn’t arrange for later that evening.
Reserves incentives, sponsored by Mitchell Street Florist, went to Daniel Nelson, James Summerhaze and Adam Runnalls.
The Under 17’s had a big win to kick start their year. They started off slowly with conditions wet and slippery and with the “Bloods” wanting the ball more than us. The second half was a different story with Jayden, Jacob (Mr Reliable), Nashy and Homer all taking control of the centre while Taigy at centre half back playing strong football. At the other end of the ground Seany put the score on the board with 6 goals. A great effort from all the boys for their first game. Under 17’s awards were Josh Homewood, Luke Nash, Jacob Bryant, Sean Hanrahan and Jaydon Cowling.
Welcome to season 2010 to all players, members and supporters of the Huntly Football Netball Club.
We are pleased to announce the continued support of Trickey’s Diesel Service as our major sponsor. They have supported our club over many years and their continued support is much appreciated.
We would also like to acknowledge the support of our other major sponsor in Andrew Lethelean at “Pugg Mahones Irish Bar” in Bull Street.
Also on board this season are Martin and Lisa Ruffell from Ruffell’s Fine Jewellery, Gary and Steve Osborne at Osweld, Andrew Healey from Peerless, Mountjoy Wool, Huntly Hotel, Mitchell Street Florist and AFS Accountants. Many thanks for your support.
On the football front Daniel Geary has continued on as Senior coach along with Reserves coach Robbie Runnalls. We welcome new Under 17’s joint coaches Bruce Hanrahan & Daryl Pentreath and we wish them all the best of luck for the season.
Welcome also to our new recruits Kye Donohue, Leigh Coffey, Clint Grenfell, Charlie Thorpe, Trevor Borg and Jeremy Blencowe. We hope your career at Huntly is both satisfying and rewarding for many years to come
It should be an exciting phase for our footballers as we have a very young list and look forward to developing that young talent and hopefully keeping them together for a period of sustained success.
Tonight we want everyone back to the clubrooms for what is our first social event for the season. Don’t worry about the Melbourne Cup this year cause our social committee has organized the horse racing event of the year, the “Huntly Cup”. $20-00 admission and this includes finger food. A great night is assured. Our weekly awards will be announced before the main race.
