Barooga seniors were no match for a very strong Tocumwal combination at Tocumwal last Sunday. The Bloods were pressed for supremacy by the Barooga Hawks who got to within 10 points late in the second quarter. Playing catch-up footy after a sluggish start, Barooga fought back hard to get close to the undefeated home side in wet and slippery conditions just before half time. Unfortunately, the spark that ignited the Hawks was only short-lived with too much left to too few. A disappointing third stanza was followed by a woeful final term with the Bloods posting a massive victory. Incentive awards went to Tyron Hill, James Hazelman (major); Barooga Hotel vouchers went to Ryan Forsyth and Keiron Hill. The challenge is certainly fair and square in front of the seniors today. Home game against a well credentialed opponent. Will we take the challenge?
Barooga reserves responded to new coach, Nick Flanagan at quarter time with the depleted Tocumwal seconds serving it right up to the Hawks in the first term. The further the match went the more domination Barooga demonstrated with James Wingate (Bottom Pub), Joel Kirk (Bottom Pub), Zeke Bunge (Barooga Sports Club) and Glen Elleray (Menthas) the stand-outs, giving Flanagan more to be pleased about the last three stanzas than the opening term.
Frank Armfields thirds sang the club theme song with gusto at games end for the first time in season 2009 as the under 17s posted a much improved performance on Sunday against Tocumwal. Riley Brooks (Andrew Jenkins Real Estate) was prominent with five goals whilst Sam Jenkins (Menthas), Arthur Rootsey (Babcon Hire) and Hayden Atkinson-Thring (Barooga General Store) were great sources of supply.
Highlight of the fourths big win over Tocumwal was the 10-goal haul by Braydon Smith. Smiths tally could have been even greater as he also registered seven behinds in a great match winning performance. Brendan Jack showed true spirit by making himself available for Tocumwal who was short of numbers. Brendan proved his worth by booting the Bloods only major for the game.
