Twelve goals from two key Barooga forwards out of a total of 20 for the game against Echuca United ensured a comfortable 62 point win for the Hawks seniors on Saturday at Echuca. Brent Chapman (eight goals) and Sean Harrap (four goals) were regular targets in the Barooga front half. Supply was shared across the board with many team mates working to deliver many opportunities to score. Mathew Hyde, Matthew Chapman, Jamie Stanyer and Tyron Hill were lively contributors. Brennan Mills, Tom Crapp and Matthew Byers also were busy in midfield and line breaking roles. Defensively Barooga conceded 12 goals to their undermanned opponents. Accountability, especially when the opposition have the football, is still an area that coach McNamara believes needs attention. Sloppy skill execution and a lack of discipline by key players will not be so forgiven against sides who are genuine contenders.
Awards went to: Brent Chapman (major incentive 1) and Mathew Hyde (major incentive award 2) Minor awards went to Jamie Stanyer and Liam Ryan.
The reserves played a season-defining match on Saturday with Echuca United ahead of the Hawks on the premiership ladder prior to round 16. The previous months effort had been largely disappointing with the twos dropping their usual high standards. The boys hit the ground running, however, against the Eagles and in a low-scoring contest always seemed to have the upper hand. Warrior Jono ODwyer led the troops and safely secured the back half with support from Ben McNeill, Glen Elleray and Nick Quinane. Sean Connor was lively on his wing whilst Matt Nixon and Simon Douglas converted as required up forward. The final result saw a hard earned, tea,-focused 20 point victory to keep the Hawks reserves double chance prospects on schedule.
Main award went to Shaun Connor (Menthas) Good support was given by Glen Elleray (Bottom Pub), Matthew Nixon ( Bottom Pub) and Jon ODwyer (Barooga Sporties).
The thirds got away to a great start against top side Echuca United. James Leech , Josh McGaw and Daniel Davis were instrumental in posting a quarter time lead. As the game wore on the more talented United combination got their flow going and drew away comfortably to win by 81 points. Riley Brooks, Hayden Atkinson and Peter Connors worked hard against the tide.
Awards went to: Daniel Davis (Menthas) Pete Connors (Barooga General Store), Hayden Atkinson (Andrew Jenkins Real Estate) and Riley Brooks (Babcon).
Overall Echuca United held too many guns for the Barooga netballers with the Hawks only able to take the four points in two games. B grade and the under 11s flew the flag with the other six matches showing the United girls to be far better on the day.
