The club had a very good day against our neighbours Tocumwal last week, suffering only 3 losses from the 12 matches contested.
The fourths returned to the winners list with a 19 point win. Coach Mick took the opportunity to give his senior players a rest and played some of the young lads, leading to a relatively even contest. One point separated the sides at half time but the Hawks took control in the third term to set up their win. Max Askionov (Barooga Bakery) was best, Daniel Davis (Outdoor Indulgence) has played well since pulling the boots on again, Lewis Currie (Barooga General Store) and Caleb Brooks (Spanner Brooks Encouragement) relished more responsibility while Logan Morey booted 3 goals and Troy Metzner contributed strongly. It was good to see Brayden Buff Smith in his first game after breaking his leg in the pre-season, well done Buff. Thanks to Mick Dunn for organising the bus trip to Melbourne on Sunday, the boys loved it!!
The Thirds cant take a trick with Tocumwal bolstered by college boys on school holidays. This belied their position on the ladder and the Bloods were far too good, recording a 97 point win. An after the siren altercation saw two players suspended for a game and, while its good to see the players go into bat for their teammates, a more disciplined approach should have been taken. James McNeill (Menthas) has found some form after missing most of the season with a knee injury. Josh McGaw (Andrew Jenkins Real Estate) and Tom Currie (Barooga Bakery) worked tirelessly while James Leech (Barooga General Store) and Pete Connors (Babcon Hire) battled well.
The reserves continue to dominate the Seconds competition and sit undefeated at the top of the table. Last week the Hawks won by 101 points but were far from convincing against the lowly ranked Bloods. In fact Toc outscored the Hawks in the second term and that stung the boys into action as they held them scoreless after half time. Dylan Brooks (Barooga Hotel) kicked 5 goals in a BOG performance that could see him in the Ones today. Joel Kirk (Babcon Hire) showed hes shaken off the ankle injury that has kept him out for a few weeks and he returned to his early season form. Brad Glass (Bottom Pub) has added depth and experience to the side and Micky Connors (Barooga Sporties) booted three goals and continues to show promise. Rhys Holt and Jason Bigg were others to perform admirably.
The Seniors were able to shake off a determined Bloods outfit despite some very poor kicking for goal. At half time the Hawks led 7-11 to 4-1 and if we had kicked straight it would have been all over. The second half was a bit better, 11-10 to 3-2, but we still squandered opportunities in front of the big sticks. At the end of the day an 84 point win is a good win in anyones books and well take it!! Andrew Smith and Tyron Hill continue to show balance and composure and have been more than handy pick ups for the Hawks. Shaun Robbins booted 9 goals and his versatility is very important to the make up of the side and Rowan OCallaghan is starting to hit his straps since returning from OS. Paul Mason and Tim ODwyer picked up the Major Incentives and Sean Harrap and Glen Nye received the Minor Incentives. Gas picked up the players auction money for Trav Nyes Syndicate while Dylan put some dough into the coffers of the Others Syndicate.
