What a great start to the season for the Hawks with 10 out of 12 sides victorious over the Bloods.
The Under 17 netball and football sides went down but showed enough to suggest that they will improve as the season progresses and the wins will come.
Under 14
Mick Dunns Under 14s set the scene with a fabulous victory against an undermanned Toc side. The young Hawks were never challenged and ran out comfortable winners by 130 points. In a great team effort award winners were Arty Rootsey (Barooga Bakery), Jake Russell (Barooga General Store), Harry Foster (Pirates Treasure), Sam Gough (Outdoor Indulgence) and Brendan Jack (Healthy Foods).
Under 17
The Under 17s started brilliantly to lead at quarter time before Toc wrestled control from them in the second. A yellow card late in the term meant the Hawks were down to 17 men and despite hitting the front early in the third term, weight of numbers told and the Bloods ran out winners by 35 points. A more disciplined approach and a 4 quarter effort will see the boys in the winners circle very soon. Sam Jenkins (Menthas), Matt Connors (Andrew Jenkins Real Estate), James McNeill (Barooga Bakery), Zeke Bunge (Babcon Hire) and Hayden Atkinson (Barooga General Store) won the awards.
Reserves
Jonno would have been very happy with the Reserves effort. Down on numbers he had to call on the wily veteran Knuckles Noble and Josh McGaw from the Under 17s to fill the bench. Many of the players were having their first run for the season however, with Guru, Jimmy and Dougie booting 14 goals between them, they ran out 154 point victors. Bottom Pub awards went to Joel Kirk and Jason Stephens. Jason Brooks (Babcon Hire), Jamie Stanyer (Barooga Hotel) and Simon Douglas (Barooga Sporties) took out the remaining spoils.
Seniors
To the Seniors and we couldnt have asked for a better season opener. Eleven goal-kickers were indicative of the way the boys shared the ball around. The Hawks controlled the centre square and were able to spot up targets in the forward 50 enabling them to increase their lead at every change.
The recruits all displayed the form that makes Geoff Gaylard the best recruiting officer in the business bar none!! Tyron Hill, Zac and Dallas Gallagher, Brent Chapman and Ashley Round rated very highly and will only get better as the season progresses.
Timmy ODwyer and Sammy Ryan knocked up getting kicks and received incentive awards. Jason Bigg shut down the dangerous Logie and he and Zac also received incentive awards. Chappy and Sean Harrap were the main focal points in attack and booted six and five goals respectively.
Liam Ryan (3 goals), Micky Connors (2 goals) and Rhys Holt made debuts that suggest they will be influential players for the Hawks for years to come (we hope!!!).Congratulations boys!

Club News
The player auction was well supported on Saturday night at the Sporties. Frenzied bidding for both footballers and netballers ensured that prize winners will be well rewarded. Dont forget to get your money in before the April 19th clash with Cobram or your players will be re-auctioned.
Thursday night teas have been well attended and, as I said last week, they are an economical way for the family to spend the night out so well see you there!!
This week we travel to Numurkah, lets keep the ball rolling and come away with wins in all grades.
