Another season approaches and hopefully we will perform better on-field than we did in 2010.
Off-field last year things went well and we were able to finish some of the projects which were under way. The most notable of these was the much needed new lights.
The oval now has 5 lights on each of the 4 towers and they do a great job.
Many thanks to Victor Harbor Cranes for donating the use of a crane for many hours.
2 night games have been scheduled. The first is against Victor on April 16th, then against Mt Compass on May 28th. Past players, members and supporters are invited along to help make these night games successful.
Prior to Christmas we top dressed the oval and it is looking good. Thanks to Neville and Heather Miller from Mt Compass Landscape Supplies for donating 300 tons of soil and fertilizer, spreaders courtesy of Wes Hurrell and Ellers Pastoral and Alan Swain who cored the oval.
There are a number of new faces in junior footy this year. We are continuing to concentrate on improving our junior football as these boys are the key to our future.
For any information on Junior Football, new Junior President Lynden Burns or Junior Administrator Stacey Phillips will welcome your enquiries.
In order to be more competitive in Senior ranks, our recruiting team has been very active and have covered many of our deficiencies. I won’t mention all the new players as the list may alter before the season begins, but the signing of Ken McGregor – ex Adelaide Crow, has been a coup. Ken is involved in coaching at Glenelg so can only play for Encounter Bay when the SANFL program allows, but hopefully we can select him for half the games.
More players mean more depth, so players will have to be prepared to work hard to guarantee selection.
There are many things happening around the Club. Catering and bar work for the Victor Harbor Trots meetings has been completed, as well as work for the Coast to Coast Bike Race on March 6th. Volunteers were needed for these tasks, and for the numerous football related tasks during the season, so don’t hesitate to step forward.
Most importantly we need the support of everyone on Thursday nights for tea once matches start, and on Saturday at the games. With this support and some early wins on the board, 2011 could be a season to be really enjoyed.
Looking forward to seeing you involved.
Richard Littlely
President.
