Junior Club Playing Policy
The coaches at the Victor Harbor Football Club are encouraged to set high standards and create a successful club culture for all children to be a part of and aspire to. When player numbers are high, coaches can have a difficult task of how to play everyone and meet the development requirements of each player, particularly the last year players that are moving up to the next level the following year. To assist the process the committee has recommended the following policies.
Modified Rules
The final year players will be given preference on game days and the format will be as per the GSFL guidelines.
Mini, Junior and Senior Colts
Final year players will be given preference over the middle age players who then are given preference over first year players. However if a new player enters the group they are then determined to be a first year player no matter of age.
In the event of higher grade being unable to fill a full side then the last year players of the next lower grade will be asked to fill in on a rotational roster. These players will not play in their assigned grade on the same day. If however the player/parent declines to play a higher grade when requested they will forfeit their opportunity to play any grade on that day. This is to allow a younger player to still have an opportunity to play at Victor.
In the case of no player missing out on a game on the day in either grade then said player can play both grades.
The only exemption is when a team qualifies for the finals. It is then up to the coaches to select their best side for the finals period regardless of age and ability.
Last year players in all grades are to be promoted wherever possible. This is subject to discussion with player, parent’s and coach to ensure selected player is ready for next level.
Senior Colt players who are selected to play A grade are to only play at the higher level on the day, unless approved to play both grades by the A grade coaching panel.
General policy
Preference will be given to players who are registered, financial and attend trainings.
If a player is not financial after Round Four the committee will advise the coach and player that financial players will have preference regardless of any other policy mentioned above
As a general rule our policy is “No train No Play” however there are some circumstances that will override this.
In the event past Junior Club players leave the area to further their education but still wish to play at Victor, we will try to support them where possible. Typically these players are training at the College/Schools they attend. On weekends that they have no game commitments they are to advise the Victor coach that they are available to play no later than Thursday night prior to team selection. At the completion of their educational studies these players may return to our Club to continue their football careers, so we believe it is important to maintain a bond with Victor Harbor during this time, albeit for a few games per season.
The Committee in its sole discretion reserves the right to discipline any player who behaves inappropriately either on or off the field. Disciplinary actions will include suspension or in extreme cases expulsion from the club.
