Champagne Breakfast - 3rd Feb 2013

Once again, Pete and Gill Charkiewicz’s annual Champagne Breakfast came around all too quickly and now, sadly, it’s over for another year.
The catering, beautifully and efficiently organised by the ladies in the kitchen (take a bow Trish Klisc, Heather Golding, Annette Sheridan, Beth Clark, Jo Dunne and Pauline Neesam) was also aided and abetted by early birds Alan Neesam and Bob Clark who slaved over a hot BBQ cooking sausages and the like.
With the enticing aroma of bacon, eggs, sausages and much more filling the air, pre-breakfast drinks of orange juice and champagne welcomed the many members and their guests who milled about happily in anticipation of the magnificent breakfast to come.
Albert Pedrotti, the Master of Ceremonies for the day, was in full flight keeping proceedings in order with his usual aplomb, and following breakfast, organised the ‘Spider’ challenge on ‘B’ green.
After teams were selected for the morning bowls by drawing popsticks, the participants settled down for a game of only 12 ends as the temperature outside was rapidly rising.
Albert also mingled with the bowlers on the greens offering enticements (to those unfortunate to catch his eye) to players with a view to goading them to play ‘trick-shots’ – no doubt affording much amusement to the opposition skippers . . . Nice one Albert !
The winning teams are as follows:
1st: Tony Greaves, Kay Bailey and Nell Jones. (Well done folks)
2nd: Ray Roper, Mike Beale, Fay Stephens and John Weaver.
3rd: Graham Sims, Francis Watt, Vic Boxell and Ngaire Belcher.
As in previous years, Mavis Gamble presided over the raffle - for which we are in her debt.
Our sincere thanks also go to Robert, Amanda and Carolyn for doing a wonderful job behind the bar - and in front of the bar our Chairman of Entertainment, Doug Williams.
And so, to our generous sponsors of this event, Peter and Gillian Charkiewicz, we offer our heartfelt thanks and eagerly look forward to much merrymaking and frivolity next year.
