GEELONG’S depth of junior soccer talent has been highlighted by the latest under-13 Vic Country team. Five of the 16 members of the girls side are from the Geelong region.

They will play some of Australia’s best juniors in the national championships at Coffs Harbour in July. Georgia Atkinson, Stephanie Cameron, Lara Heric, Coby McInerney and Caelli Wood were identified while playing in the summer league and pressed their claims at state trials. All are representatives of the Geelong Galaxy and the Barwon Sports Academy soccer programs.

‘‘We are thrilled for the girls involved,’’ Barwon Sports Academy chief executive Cameron Loftus said. ‘‘It is a credit to the pathway process in place now in our region. ‘‘To have five of the 16 selected in the state squad means that the work of the SAP (Skills Acquisition Program) and the Galaxy and the BSA Soccer program is bearing fruit. ‘‘(Program co-ordinator) Pete Bradley has worked tirelessly in this system and deserves recognition also.’’ All the girls have come through the skills acquisition program and graduated to the Galaxy and the Barwon Sports Academy. Loftus said the program was designed to harness the development of future soccer stars.

FFV releases documentation for NPLV

18th April 2013

Structure and criteria of National Premier Leagues Victoria announced.

The NPLV is a Football Federation Australia (FFA) initiative and will be established in each state by 2014 to provide a national second-tier for Australian senior football and a consistent approach to the development of Australia’s talented junior footballers.

The NPLV is in line with FFA’s national framework for player development and coaching education. In fact FFV has gone one step further by being the only Member Federation to include women and girls.

This will be the ultimate league for aspiring talented players in Victoria and will cater for players in both metropolitan and regional Victoria, ensuring that location will not be a barrier that prevents players from being a part of the league.

FFV CEO, Peter Gome said that Victoria is in a strong position nationally thanks to FFV’s widespread consultation process.

“FFV is unique among Member Federations in that we will include women and girls in our NPL structure as the FFV Board considers it important that all players be provided with equal opportunity to reach their full potential in a supportive environment regardless of gender,” he said.

“I am confident that with the support of the Victorian football community the NPLV will be a resounding success in 2014. FFV is looking forward to this new and exciting chapter of Victorian football.

“FFV’s consultation with stakeholders around Victoria has been the most comprehensive of any Member Federation and on behalf of the team at FFV and the Board we would like to thank our stakeholders for their highly valued feedback during the National Competition Review consultation process.”

FFV will support clubs during the application process and will conduct a series of information sessions in May and June throughout the state. FFV will assess applications during August and announce NPLV clubs in early September.

GGG Code of Conduct - Season 2012 friendly reminder

GGG members,

We would like to congratulate all involved in what has been a long journey in forming our Greater Geelong Galaxy. Our long awaited quest to compete in the VCL as a Geelong-based club is about to become reality. We antic

ipate that we will have a successful season ahead, regardless of whether we win, lose or draw. At the end of the day, it is not solely about winning, rather, it is about our close-knit community moving forward together in football and for the players to develop as good sportsman and people - and to aspire to the highest level. With this in mind, the GGG committee and coaches would like to wish everyone the best of luck in the upcoming weeks.

Thank you for all your support in the lead up to season, thank you to all the players who have trialed - successful or not, we appreciate your efforts in being involved. Thank you to all the parents and guardians who have contributed so much for the players. Thank you to all our partners, without their support - we could never have achieved our milestones.

Our season begins on Sunday, we encourage all to please take the time to review the GGG code of conduct which applies to all players, parents, guardians, and of course our own committee and coaches. We are hopeful that all our members, throughout the season - will conduct to their best behaviours - in the best interest of the players and our football community - both on, and off the field, including the conduct on our (and others') Facebook Page. Remember, we are a community with great discipline and determination and we should, and will - lead by example.

We are halfway there. Pride for the region, pride for football.

Thank you.

GGG wishes all the best to our boys State Representatives at the National Youth Championships

GGG wishes all the best to our boys State Representatives competing at the National Youth Championships in Coffs Harbour NSW from September 30th - October 6th: Jak Banks (U14 Vic Country), Ben Tucak (U14 Vic Country), Hayden Voss (U13 Vic Country), Jesse Didulica (U13 Vic Country), and Haris Sulaimi (who is part of the U13 Vic Country squad but sadly has had to pull out due to an unfortunate injury and will miss the NYC and the VCL).

Congratulations to ALL players in the State Development Program(s) and the players who have trialled for selection during the past months (including those who are not listed or pictured above). We would also like to congratulate the girls involved in the state development programs, and those who have already competed at the Girls NYC competitions earlier this year in Canberra.

“The VCL is the only competition of its kind in Australia and through this as well as our winter talented player programs, our best players are playing football at a high level for up to 10 months of the year, which does wonders for their development and helps them reach their full potential.” - Football Federation Victoria Talented Player Manager Les Bee

A magnificent achievement by everyone involved and we hope to have more representatives from our region involved in the future.

Well done. Geelong Region and GGG are proud of ALL of you.

Greater Geelong Galaxy - Official Kit Revealed

BREMA by LEGEA

This is the artwork for the upcoming GGG playing kit for season 2012.

Greater Geelong Galaxy were inspired by the Brema design for its 'galactic' metallic silver feature.

Included on the chest of the kit are the navy and royal blue hoops inspired by the traditional colours of the Greater Geelong region.

The Gold trimming on this kit will represent a new beginning and the bright future of the region but also acknowledges the region's glorious history and close-knit community.
