Chelsea FC at AGPS Carnival

Chelsea FC had the privilege of participating at the Aspendale Gardens Primary School Fete today.
The weather was not the very best in the morning but just before lunch time the sun popped through and the families of Aspendale Gardens Primary School came down to enjoy the afternoon.
Thank you to our fantastic Volunteers: The Prez, Tom, George, Steve & Juan our allocated soccer area became very busy with children and parents wanting to have a go kicking the soccer ball and play some small sided games all afternoon.

Chelsea FC kindly donated a 2015 membership to the schools lucky wheel draw that was won by Owen Jamecic who has always wanted to join a soccer club. The Prez and his VP John Zeccola got involved to spin that lucky wheel that got Owen his wish. Welcome Owen to Chelsea FC.
A few of Chelsea FC’s friends dropped by to also say hi - state member of parliament Lorraine Wreford and federal member Mark Dreyfus. Even Kuchi was making all mums and dads welcome.

This was a very successful day for Aspendale Gardens Primary School as well as Chelsea FC as the purpose was to support the school, promote the world game, promote team sports, & promote Chelsea FC as we continue to grow as a true “club to be with”. Over 20 enquiries were taken for our 2015 season.

Under 12 Girls Joeys Metropolitan Finals

Sunday 28 September was a long awaited day for all the girls. Coach Ian Cannon and Izzy were away on a holiday and so disappointed that they could not attend the Metropolitan Finals at the State Football Centre in Thornbury, so coaches Frank and Sov took over. 

We played a round robin type of a tournament with two other clubs that were the best in their league - Ashburton and Watsonia. The toss of a coin against Ashburton was unfavourable -  we played the hardest half of the game against the wind that was so strong that there was no possibility to get the ball over the middle. Whenever Ashburton stroke, the speed of that ball was so fast that it required twice than normal energy to run and get it. The girls gave their best but received an unfortunate goal and lost the game 1:0. Our goalie Rianna gave an amazing performance but nothing could save that torpedo-ball. It was Ashburton's second win and therefore they won the tournament. 
The second game was against Watsonia who had a 5hr break and a lot of rest. We thought the wind slowed down but weren't that lucky. It picked up again, and again we played the first half against it. We received three goals in that half and could tell that the girls were running their last atoms of energy. The second half was saved by an excellent goal Erin scored but that was not enough to get us to a runner up position. Despite of the outcome, we were all so proud of our girls who were "rookies" in comparison with the other two teams in terms of the previous experience (this observation is based on the registration numbers of their teams compared to ours). 
The progress our girls made throughout the year is so great that we can be sure that there are many more wins coming their way!

Year in Review - Girls

Chelsea U12 girls soccer team have finished the season on top of the ladder after losing only one game and drawing another for the whole season. In their first year of "real" FFV competition, the Chelsea Football Club under 12 girls team have stormed home with a convincing 2 nil win over second place Berwick in the last game to become champions of the Junior Girls South-East U12 Green Joeys  league on 49 points, scoring an impressive 70 goals and conceding only 7.
The team of 15 from local schools in the Chelsea area, came together at the start of the year with some players never having played soccer before. The team remained on top of the ladder for the whole season and under the expert guidance of coaches Ian Cannon and Frank Vitiritti developed and improved their skills each week. More importantly as the girls came from different local schools, they have developed life long friends through being involved in playing soccer at Chelsea this year.  
The girls will now play in a round robin finals series on 28 September against the ladder leaders from the other metropolitan regions around Melbourne. We wish the girls every success in this finals series and we are certain that if they continue to show the determination and courage that they have showed all year they will do Chelsea proud and come home with the trophy.

This year Chelsea had seven girls teams competing in the FFV competition from U10 right through to seniors. The U10 and U 11 teams do not have ladders, but from all reports they achieved terrific results throughout the season and their skills improved enormously. The U14 girls team finished in the middle of the ladder after some good results, but lost some players through injury and holidays at crucial times through the season. Our two U16 girls teams were very competitive with one of the teams finishing third and the other sixth, which is an amazing effort. The senior womens team also finished in the middle of the ladder, which is a terrific result as half the team is still eligible for U16’s and they also suffered through injuries at crucial times.

Season 2014 was the most successful season for girls soccer at Chelsea Soccer Club and we are going from strength to strength. New players are always welcome. Soccer is a terrific game for girls to develop friendships and skills in a friendly team environment.

Sunday night dinner function

Tonight Chelsea FC hosted a dinner night for all our girls division of the club. It was a very successful night but more importantly the night was enjoyed by Over 140 players and family members

Vale Kolya Volodin

It is with a deepened sense of sadness that I announce the tragic passing of Kolya Volodin.
Having represented Chelsea FC at both junior and senior level I, like so many others, was privileged to have known and played with Kolya during his time at our Club.
Apart from being an outstanding soccer talent, Kolya was more importantly a wonderfully warm and engaging personality that touched so many of us at the Club, forging a personal connection with those that knew him leaving a lasting impression that will only heighten the deep loss and grief we are experiencing by his tragic passing.

Welcome new Under 9 Coaches

Chelsea FC would like to welcome our newest additions to the coaching group: Amir Najimi and Lawrence Sneddon.
Both Amir and Lawrence are current under 18 players at our club. 
They will team up and coach the Under 9 Blues for this season. Both Amir and Laurence are keen to pass on their wealth of knowledge and skill sets to the children in the Under 9 Blues. The new coaches objectives are to continue to allow the team to have fun whilst focusing on skill development for the players. 

   

Chelsea F.C have just signed up our 404th Member i

I have been involved with Chelsea F.C for many years now, to be exact 9 years. In my time at Chelsea FC I have seen plenty go on from extra grounds allocated to our growing club to thousands of dollars spent on drainage, thousands of dollars spent on new lighting, 3.8 million dollars spent on the pavilion and THOUSANDS of hrs spent at the club by all our fantastic volunteers to make it what it is today. Without the hard work by everybody involved at Chelsea F.C this would never of happened.

9 years ago our club was known as Chelsea Hajduk, Today 9 years later we are known as Chelsea F.C with a very wide multicultural membership and plenty of improvements have taken place in that time. On behalf of the committee at Chelsea F.C we would like to thank each and every one of you, your team mangers, the parents in your teams and most importantly your players in your team.

It’s now time to hit the soccer fields and enjoy our season.

New Smoking Bans

In Victoria, the places where children play are now smoke-free.
From 1 April 2014, smoking is banned outdoors within 10 metres of: • playgrounds and skate parks • sporting venues during under 18s events and within public swimming pool grounds. 
Under the Tobacco Act 1987 smoking is now unlawful within these areas and could result in an infringement penalty of $144. Some councils have also introduced local laws that prohibit smoking in other areas or at other times where children play.

Why has smoking been banned where children play?
To protect everyone, especially children and young people, from the dangers of second-hand smoke. There is no safe level of exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke. Children are influenced by what they see going on around them. When smokers light up in their company, children notice. The more they see smoking in public places the more they will tend to think smoking is ok, rather than harmful. Community attitudes towards smoking have changed. We don’t want to see children connecting healthy recreation with the habit of smoking. Let’s keep the places where children play clean and clear of cigarette butt litter.

MELBOURNE VICTORY and CHELSEA FC news

Chelsea U11 Girls and U9 Boys were invited to attend a Melbourne Victory Press Conference where they were promoting the Elimination Final against Sydney FC on Good Friday Night where they got to meet Mark Milligan, James Troisi, and Kevin Muscat.  Before the Press Conference commenced, the boys and girls were given the opportunity to attend a training session at Gosch’s Paddock where they even got to hold the A League Trophy.  Heaps of fun was had by all the kids!!!  

The kids appeared on Channel 7 Sports last night plus the Herald Sun will be publishing the photo from the promo launch today. Some photos here with more to follow soon

Chelsea FC has hit the ground running on the eve of the 2014 season, with the successful opening of its new state-of-the-art pavilion at home ground Edithvale Recreation Reserve. 
The $3.8m Bert Thomas Pavilion was opened in late February, and will offer players multiple change rooms with ducted heating and cooling, as well as a separate medical room. 
On game days, Chelsea FC’s members will have access to the pavilion’s first-floor social space offering unobscured, sheltered views of all pitches, and can also watch from the spacious outdoor viewing balcony.Complimenting the new pavilion is Chelsea FC’s addition of Rob Giabardo as technical director, a highly experienced and decorated football coach who was crowned the 2011 Football Federation Victoria (FFV) Male Coach of the Year. 

“The club’s goal is to provide our players with the best opportunity to fulfil their technical abilities while enjoying the game they love to play,” Giabardo said after joining the club. 
Chelsea FC president Robert Dodich said the foundations had been set for the club’s future. 
“The completion of the pavilion and the significant developments in football department personnel and philosophies will set the foundations for the club’s long-term prosperity,” Dodich said.
“The intention is to the best community soccer club we can be, providing our members with the best coaches, the best culture (and) the best facilities at the best value for money. In short, the club to be with.”
Chelsea FC will compete for the first time in FFV’s men’s and women’s State Leagues this year.

Sub-junior Boys Assessment Day

We saw a huge amount of kids, they all got to catch up with mates from last year and had a quick skills session and game in great weather. We thank all the parents for helping the day run well and many thanks to the kids for just being awesome.
Thank you to all our Football department including George, Caleb and Matais for their assistance today in making this day a very enjoyable day for us and a massive learning process for the benefits of our players that have chosen to be part of "The Club to be with".

Chelsea Girls teams do us proud

On Sunday 16 February at Goschs Paddock next to AAMI Park six girls soccer teams from Chelsea FC participated in a tournament organised by Melbourne Victory to recognise girls playing soccer. The U16 girls team narrowly missed playing in the semi finals, the two U10 girls teams played in the semi finals and both lost on a penalty shoot out and the U8, U12 and U14 girls teams made it through to the grand final. The grand finals were played on AAMI Park on Saturday 22 February prior to the Melbourne Victory versus Adelaide game. The U12 team was narrowly defeated after dominating most of the game and the U8 and U14 teams both drew their grand finals. This was a fantastic effort by all of the girls teams representing Chelsea FC in this tournament against some of the stronger clubs around Melbourne. 

On Sunday 23 February 10 girls from Chelsea FC acted as ball girls in the W League grand final between Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar, which was won convincingly by the Melbourne Victory women. Our girls did a fantastic job on the day and we are very proud of their commitment to enjoying the participation in the great game of soccer.

At Chelsea Football (Soccer) Club we have girls teams playing in the Football Federation of Victoria competition at all levels from U7 to senior women. The number of girls playing soccer is increasing dramatically and there are a few places remaining in our teams for 2014. Pavilion Opening

The Bert Thomas Pavilion on Edithvale Road was opened on Friday February 21st. The opening was overseen by Lord Mayor Paul Peulich of the City of Kingston. We had our favourite stars from Melbourne Victory Football Club and Melbourne Aces Baseball in attendance.
Chelsea FC will hosted small sided soccer matches. There were Baseball speed gun activities, Athletics hosted an official track & field meet.

Dear all,
I would like to thank everyone associated with the opening of the H.D. (Bert) Thomas Pavilion.
Firstly, thank you to everyone at the City of Kingston associated with the opening. A special thank you to Michael Haley for all the enormous amount of work he has done over the preceeding months on this project as well as ensuring the final presentation of the Pavilion was truly something to behold. Great job! Thank you also to Joanne Cronin for co-ordinating the official function, the catering and the management of the guest list. 
I would like to thank all the Sporting Clubs and their volunteers for putting together such a great spectacle on the Edithvale Recreation Reserve grounds. Standing on the viewing balcony of the Pavilion it was an incredible sight to see the Athletics Club hosting their official meet as well as the Baseball Club and Soccer Club with their activities. I had so much positive feedback from our VIP guests which only reiterated to me that the Edithvale Recreation Reserve and its impressive Pavilion truly is the pre-eminent sporting facility in the Bayside region. A special thanks to Murray and his team; Belinda, Trevor and Adam from the Baseball Club; and Juan Steve, Peter M & Rob G for their work for the Soccer Club.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to all who helped with the running of the canteen and BBQ's. Much appreciated.

Dear members,
It is with great pleasure and honour that I address you in my first official correspondence as Club President.
On behalf of the current Executive Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing Committee for their tremendous contribution to Chelsea FC over the preceding year. I would like to extend my appreciation to all our Club’s sponsors who are a critical component in the effective running of a soccer club. I look forward to their ongoing support and contribution for many years to come. I would also like to thank all coaches, assistants, team managers and volunteers who contributed to our Club’s success in 2013. It takes an enormous amount of time, effort and sacrifice to run a sporting club and their efforts have been greatly appreciated. I look forward to your continued involvement in 2014. Finally, I would like to extend my greatest appreciation to all our wonderful members and families who have loyally supported the growth and development of our Club. Without you incredible support and patronage there would be no soccer club for your Executive Committee to manage. I look forward to your continued involvement in 2014 and being part of a very exciting period in our Club’s history.

It is on this note that I welcome everyone associated with Chelsea FC to 2014. It is not an exaggeration to say that 2014 will be the most exciting year in our Club’s history for a number of reasons.

Pavilion
On the evening of 21^st February 2014, the City of Kingston and the sporting clubs at Edithvale Reserve will host the opening of a state-of-the-art, two-storey Pavilion costing approximately $3.8 million. I welcome everyone associated with Chelsea FC to attend this gala evening and familiarise yourself with your Club’s new home ground facilities. It truly is impressive! Images of the Pavilion can be found on our website and Facebook page. Detailed information on the Pavilion opening will be made available soon on our website and Facebook page.

The Club’s facilities will include a first floor social space that can accommodate 150 sitting guests and which is complimented by a commercial size kitchen. The social space will afford our members and associates with unobscured, sheltered views of all three soccer fields. If people prefer outdoor spectating, our social space extends to a substantial viewing balcony that will be catered for with outdoor, café-style furnishings.

From a playing viewpoint, the pavilion will offer our players four separate change rooms with ducted heating/cooling and each with their own showers and toilets. Players will also have access to a massage table and a separate First Aid room. Coaches will equally be impressed by two significantly sized, ground floor storerooms. On game days, our members and associates will be catered for by a ground floor, commercial size kiosk.

Your Executive Committee has embraced Council’s vision of having the Pavilion utilised as a community facility. As such, we are the only sporting Club at Edithvale Reserve to negotiate a lease agreement. In short, a lease agreement will afford our Club 24/7 access to the Pavilion thereby catering to our members needs 365 days a year. Our social space will also be made available to social groups, community groups and local business to utilise for weddings, social functions, business meetings and the like. The Council supports your Executive Committee’s vision to make Edithvale Reserve and its impressive Pavilion the pre-eminent sporting precinct in the bayside region as well as a focal point for local community activity. 

Edithvale Reserve
The City of Kingston is also completing landscaping works around the Pavilion as well as car park works. This is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

A new integrated Family and Children’s Centre is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year on the very site of our old Clubroom. The centre will include a kindergarten, maternal and children’s health services, long day care and play groups. I foresee this Centre will compliment our Club in a positive manner, particularly for parents and guardians who have children in day care services and who are also junior players at our Club.

All our pitches have received post season maintenance by Council and are developing nicely. Such works will continue for the next month. Additionally, Coach’s boxes on Pitch 1 have been repaired and player benches on Pitches 2 and 3 are expected to be completed by Council by the end of this month.

Alternative training venues are actively being explored by your Executive Committee to help create greater flexibility for our Football Department and to preserve our three playing fields as much as possible.

Football Department
Another exciting development at our Club has been the recent recruitment of Rob Giabardo (Technical Director of Football) and Michael Antolos (Senior Men’s Coach). We are extremely privileged to have recruited such high calibre football personnel and I welcome both Rob and Michael to our Club. Both have been extensively profiled on our website and Facebook page and I encourage you to read their profiles if you have not done so already.

Importantly, both Rob and Michael have been specifically recruited by the Club to assist our existing Football Department personnel in fulfilling the vision of creating an outstanding club culture through the technical development of both our coaches and players whilst creating a football philosophy and style of play consistently through each team at our Club as set out in Football Federations Australia’s, National Football Curriculum.

In short, the Club’s goal is to provide our players with the best opportunity to fulfil their technical abilities whilst enjoying the very game they love to play.

To help support this vision, your Executive Committee is currently exploring an affiliate relationship with Victorian NPL club, Dandenong Thunder. Such a relationship will encourage the optimum, technical development of players at our Club. Rob Giabardo’s formal association with both Clubs will greatly assist in the facilitation of such a relationship.

With the exception of the men’s 35+ team, the Executive Committee has also made the decision to leave the Bayside Football Association league and enter all teams into the FFV. This will improve the quality of our players by exposing them to the stronger competition afforded by Victoria’s governing football body.

Open for Business
In summary, 2014 will represent a landmark year in the short lived history of our Club. The completion of the Pavilion and the significant developments in Football Department personnel and philosophies will, I believe, set the foundations for our Club’s long term prosperity and hopefully leave a legacy for many generations to come. Your Executive Committee is very motivated to ensure that we will fulfil our motto of:

‘The Club To Be With’ – the best community soccer club we can be, providing our members and associates with the best coaches, the best culture, the best facilities at the best value for money.

Your Executive Committee will leave no stone unturned to achieve this mandate and I look forward to all existing and prospective members joining us on this exciting journey.

Introducing our new Technical Director of Football

Dear Chelsea FC Members and local community.

I am proud to say, after long term discussions with our President Rob and I we are excited to inform you all that Robert Giabardo will be joining Chelsea FC as our Technical Director of football for this season and beyond.
Rob’s commitment to Junior Soccer “Football” is second to none.
He not only has a very good reputation as a very good Junior coach and mentor, he has the runs on the board with success on and of the pitch.
Below are just some of Rob Giabardo achievements.

•          In 2011 Rob took a team of Under 13 boys to compete in the San Marino youth tournament in Italy and the World Youth Cup in Sweden - which is the biggest youth tournament in the world. This was the first time that the team had ever travelled abroad, and it followed their unbelievable 2010 season when they won the Bendigo 7s, The Kanga Cup and the Gold Coast Champions Cup  - a feat no other team has ever accomplished. Yet this team was simply a club team made up of local talent who had been together for 2 years. This talented group of boys led by Rob Giabardo finished 3^rd in this prestigious tournament http://www.stormssoccer.blogspot.com.au/p/european-trip-2011.html and perormed unbelievably well in Goethenberg to finish top of ther group. They only played international academy teams and from 13 games in total, won 10, drew 1 and lost 2.

•          Rob coached 2 teams in the Gold Coast Cup tournament in 2012 where they beat quality teams from clubs around Australia.


•          Rob also also was the coach of a under 13s squad in 2012 that were crowned State Champions in 2012.


•          Recently in 2013 Rob and a very committed group of players and parents took 2 squads to Spain to play against the rest of the world in the Donosti Cup and Costa Blanca Cup, Robs team did extremely well over there playing at the very highest level of football that they had ever played. Both teams ended up in the 1/4 finals - the farthest any Australian team had ever gone. The U15 Storm team only conceded 4 goals in 9 matches - losing two quarter-finals in a penalty shoot out.

New Committee for 2014

At our AGM held on October 7th the 2014 committee was voted in and consists of the following people:
