2015 Registration and Assessments

If you are still keen to join a junior boys team (Under 7-Under 16) you will need to email the club to confirm there are spots available before you register. We will not be accepting registrations without prior approval. Please contact us and we will provide a registration form to fill in if there are spots available.

For the time being places are still available for Goalkick, Senior Men and Masters and all girls teams so keep sending those in.

We have a few spots available in the following age groups for 2015 and then we are completely full. If you would like to register with Chelsea FC, please contact chelseafootballclubaustralia@gmail.com asap. All teams play Saturday mornings and the season starts on the last weekend of school holidays - yes that soon.

First in best dressed!

Under 8 – 5 positions are available
Under 11 – 2 positions are available

If you have ANY questions regarding registration please contact website@chelseafootballclub.com.au.

Please note we have also implemented a 'No Pay No Play' policy at the club this year - unfortunately we had players last year who did not pay their fees and left the club out of pocket so now unless you have paid fees in full you will not be entitled to play or train with your team. We hope you appreciate our position on this. If you would like to discuss payment issues with us then please do at the above email address.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will I be measured up for my uniform this year?

No. This year we will be providing each team (once finalised) a set of uniforms based on team numbers. The uniforms may not be all tailored to an exact fit but all players will receive the closest size possible to their needs.
As will previous years teams from Under 12s up will receive two sets of uniforms - one home (blue) and one away (red) in line with FFV policy. Teams from Under 11s down will receive one set of home (blue) uniform only. Under 11 down teams will be provided with training bibs for any away clash strip occasions,

2. What if I cannot make any of the registration dates?

No problem at all. We have the registration form and terms and conditions online (on this page) and you can easily download and email in to us at chelseafootballclubaustralia@gmail.com any time from now until the season starts. Obviously the sooner you get payment in the better

3. What age can my child start playing?

We run a goalkick program similar to the AFL Auskick program. A weekly skills-based program for an hour once a week (Saturday or Sunday dependant on the coach). This is generally for 5-7 year old kids (they can be older if they have never really played before or slightly younger if they have real natural talent).
The breakdown per age group is as follows:
From 7 and up we run teams that play weekly in a structured FFV competition.
Under 7s play 5 a side on a small pitch with no goal keepers for 30-35 minutes a match. Parent referees and linespeople.
Under 8s and 9s play 7 a side including a goalkeeper for 40 minutes a match. Parent referees and linespeople.
Under 10 and 11s play 9 a side including goalkeeper for 50 minutes a match. Parent referees and linespeople.
Under 12s and up play 11 a side including goalkeeper with full rules (offside etc) and official FFV match referees and linespeople.

4. When is training? What day do they play?

Training times and days vary per team and are dependent on the coach who is looking after the team. Most of the age groups run 2 sessions a week for around an hour per session, but again that is dependent on the coach involved. We cannot confirm days and times per team until the number of teams is finalised and we can roster pitch time accordingly.

Match day for Under 7s up to Under 11s is Saturday - and for the very large majority the kickoff time is 9 or 10am (however it does vary depending on what location you are travelling to)
Match day for Under 12s and up is Sunday and kickoff time varies wildly depending on the location where you are playing.

5. Do you have girls only teams?

Yes for most age groups we have both boys and girls only teams. Please be aware that for the older age groups it is compulsory for boys and girls to be seperated, but if you choose you can have your daughter play in with the boys for the younger age groups which we currently do have and cater for as well as in girls only teams. If you have ANY questions regarding girls teams please feel free to contact our girls co-ordinator Peter McCarthy on 0418 388 257.

6. What team will my child end up in? Can they choose to play with their friends?

Last year we implemented an assessment based criteria for teams which we feel is a much fairer approach to game time than having the kids play with their friends. The more talented kids played together in a more challenging league and the other kids played in a league with equally skilled kids. That way all kids are given the best possible chance to shine on any given day. Kids who had been hidden away in a team of higher skilled players had their chance to get more invloved and their confidence improved and their skills came on in leaps and bounds and it was wonderful to see.
If your child is playing in an age group where there is only the one team then assessments are not crucial.

7. What age group will my child play in?

The basic rule of thumb is that they will play in the age group that they turn THIS calendar year. If they turn 9 they play Under 9 etc. For teams from Under 11 down then if your child has never played before they can play down an age group for the first year but will then need to jump 2 years the following year to catch up.

8. I'm worried that my child won't be good enough to make a team after being assessed.

Don't be. At Chelsea we take ALL players regardless of skill. If you register you will be given game time - as simple as that. We find that many kids start off slowly due to a lack of confidence but by the end of the year they are right in amongst it with all the others.

8. What if my child cannot make any of the assessment dates?

That is OK. They will not be excluded from a team because of this. If they have played with the club before, then their previous coach will be able to provide input as to the best team for them to start in - otherwise they will start training with a team and like any player can be re-assessed throughout the year if both the coach and parents feel they are struggling or should move up to another team.

10. What do I bring to the assessment sessions?

Boots, shin pads, water, sunscreen and a super positive attitude!
If you get there early you may want to bring your training ball from last year to keep yourself busy.

11. Where are assessments held?

Due to the council groundworks to get our pitches ready to go for round 1 we have had to move assessments to across the road. They will be at the AFL / cricket grounds behind the bowls club directly across Edithvale Rd from Pitch 1. Map below.
