Position Description – Junior Coach
JOB TITLE:
Junior Coach
OBJECTIVE:
The Junior Coach is responsible for developing the team’s skills and knowledge of the game while ensuring maximum enjoyment is had by all participants.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare two training sessions per week.
- Understand and adhere to all of the club’s policies and procedures.
- Progressively and sequentially develop each player’s technical skills.
- Implement an effective coaching program in conjunction with the Coaching Director.
- Give instruction to players on all rules and safety procedures before the beginning of the season and ongoing advice where necessary.
- Check that the pitch/training area is fit for access prior to each session/match.
- Provide relevant training/game information to players and parents.
- Coordinate parents to assist with coaching and officiating as required.
- Provide match reports for club website as required.
- Organise a Team Manager (roster if necessary) to assist with game-day administration tasks.
- Ensure that all players receive a fair go with equal game time.
- Teach players about the importance of respect and responsibilities towards match officials.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- The Junior Coach reports to the Coaching Director.
- Liaises with General Committee, Coaching Director, players, parents, other coaches and supporters.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
- The Junior Coach is accountable to the Coaching Director.
The estimated time commitment required as the Junior Coach is up to 6 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is positive and enthusiastic.
- Is empathetic and inclusive to players or all abilities.
- Technical understanding of the sport is desirable.
- Knowledge of the club’s rules, policies and guidelines.
- Coaching Accreditation to the relevant level or willingness to obtain.
- Can manage volunteers and delegate responsibilities where appropriate.
- Willing to obtain a Working with Children Check.
