"CARDIFF HAWKS" AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL CLUB
The Cardiff Hawks were formed in 1968 and now compete in the Black Diamond Australian Football League (BDAFL) which was formed in 2000. Since the formation of the league the Cardiff Hawks have contested almost every Grand Final up until 2007 and since then they have played in five successive Grand Finals.
The Senior Club has teams in Premier Division and First Division of the Black Diamond Cup competition.
The Hawks also have a strong junior club fielding teams in all age groups of the strong Greater Sydney Junior AFL (Newcastle) competition. These age groups include Under 17, Under 15, Under 13, Under 11 and Under 9 with the club also running a popular and successful Auskick program for younger children which teaches them the fundamental skills of Australian Football.
The senior teams of the Cardiff Hawks Australian Football Club currently play at No 1 Sportsground which is located in the centre of Newcastle. The junior teams play at Percy St Oval, Hillsborough which is just south of the centre of Cardiff. The Club is currently in negotiation with local govrenment and developers for the provision of a new AFL facility which will ensure the Cardiff Hawks position as the leading AFL club in Newcastle and the Hunter Region.
