2016 - Committee nominations

We are nearing the end of the 2015 season and need to start planning for 2016.

Our club has almost 150 members this year and we hope to increase our numbers again for 2016.  Our club relies totally on volunteers to keep it running every year. This year our committee members had  to take on numerous roles each as there were insufficient volunteers. It would be great if in 2016 the workload could be shared around.

 If anyone has any questions about what any of the Committee positions involve, please feel free to contact Darren Bates, our club’s President (after 4pm), on 0407 435 5540407 435 554, and he will be able to have a chat with you about any of the positions. Committee meetings are held 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7pm.

Please find attached a nomination form for the 2016 Tweed Coast Raiders JRL Club committee.

Committee nomination forms need to be received by the Secretary no later than the 6 September 2015.  Forms can be emailed back to me at the club’s email address: tweedcoastraidersjrl@outlook.com   or posted to Tweed Coast Raiders Club, PO Box 196, Bogangar NSW 2488 or handed in personally.

Rule changes for Mini and Modified games

Australia's Rugby League Modified Games Program for 6 to 12 year old players will undergo its first substantial law changes since their introduction in 1982.

A full review of Mini Footy (now  6 to 9 years) and Mod League (10 to 12 years) was undertaken by the NRL in partnership with a Sydney University Research Team, where trial data was analysed during the period 2009-2014.

"Feedback from players, coaches, parents and Referees indicated that fun, skill development and increased participation were key factors in recruiting young players and then retaining them in the game for longer," said NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg.

Experimental laws were trialed across Australia over the five years resulting in changes to commence in 2015. These include:

• the elimination of scrums in the Modified Games;
• the clarification of the place / tap kick re-start to the non-scoring team across the 6 – 12 year age group;
• the standardisation of the Zero Tackle across "the whole of game";
• the elimination of conversion attempts in the 6- and 7-year age groups to generate more performance time in these formative years;
• the introduction of a "Chance" rule in the Under 6s; and,
• a "Two Pass Variation" law for Mod League participants.
