EVERY kid grows up playing sport throughout the year but most eventually choose one as their favourite.
However, for Tim Cummins and Max McNamara, their love of sport has followed them through to adulthood.
Cummins, 20, of Mt Riverview, and McNamara, 21, of Cranebrook, represent Penrith in both cricket and AFL.
“I started playing both sports when I was 10,” McNamara said.
“I played AFL until I was 16 and, like Tim, had a couple of seasons off and came back to play for the Penrith Rams last season.”
The duo have played for Penrith in first-grade cricket this season and maintain their priority lies with that sport.
“The coaches at the Rams understand that cricket is our priority and AFL is for a bit of fun and to maintain fitness,” McNamara said.
“Obviously it’s hard to get to their training now as the seasons cross over, but there is not much we can do.”
Despite the heavy load of sport, the duo have no plans on quitting any time soon.
“As long as the body holds up I’d love to keep playing,” McNamara said.
“It’s pretty intense when you are playing sport every weekend of the year.
“For example, last season we played the AFL final and the next week we were playing our first game of cricket, so there is no time to have a break.
“But we love it and that’s why we do it.”
