After last week's "big wet" forcing the cancellation of games, it's all hands on deck this Saturday with both senior teams playing at Greygums Oval and the Under 18's travelling to Village Green at Uni NSW.
Both Firsts and Reserves will be looking to conquer the only team they haven't beaten at Greygums. Reserves start the day at 12:00 PM against Mac Uni whilst First Grade take on Sydney Uni in the 2:10 PM fixture. Both sides have a perfect record at Greygums this season. The Under 18's are looking to get a winning double over Uni NSW at Village Green, Kensington at 10:00 AM after their win over that side at Dukes Oval earlier in the season.
*Players are reminded to arrive prior to the specified times for team photo's (Senior Teams only this week). Players and officials to wear full club gear and players not playing to bring their football gear.
Match Preview
A massive weekend of football for the Penrith Rams lies ahead with three all-important games on the card.
The Under 18’s travel to Village Green at Kensington to take on Uni NSW/ES Bulldogs in what is expected to be a great tussle. Both teams met back in Round 3 with Penrith recording their first ever Premier Cup win when they came out victors by 14 points after trailing for much of the game. The Bulldogs have won just one match this year when they easily accounted for Illawarra but showed a spark when they drew with St George at Village Green after leading for the majority of the game. Penrith are coming off a 20 point loss last start to Western Suburbs in what was a fiery clash, The Rams welcome back Matthew Purse, returning from injury and Penrith Swans Under 16’s player, Justin Eckford plays his second game for the rams in this match.
Reserve Grade take the field at Greygums at 12:00 PM and are looking to keep their Greygums perfect record alive and their 12th win of the season in the big 1 v 2 clash. The Rams grabbed top spot two weeks ago when the Warriors lost their first game of the season when they fell to Moorebank in a shock 72 point loss. They had won their previous 10 matches including a 22 point round 5 win over the Rams at University Oval. It was only a six goal to nil third quarter that proved the difference to Penrith that day and the side has been looking forward to the return clash since then and the winner of this match looks likely to become minor premiers for the 2011 season. Penrith have named a strong squad for this match including regular first graders Adam West. Jake Clark and Nic Collimore whilst Jason Bradley will be looking to keep his lead in the Sydney AFL goalscoring department.
The main match sees the Rams take on Sydney Uni and keep the senior teams 2011 perfect Greygums record alive. The students remain as the only team that Penrith have not conquered this year. They fell to that side in April in round two after a titanic battle where just a kick separated the sides for three quarters of the match until a seven goal final term rampage saw the students run away with a 35 point win. Since then, Uni’s form has been slightly inconsistent but have recorded good wins over Manly, Moorebank and St George at their last three outings since their 60 point loss to Balmain in round 11 at Drummoyne. With Penrith topping the ladder and the students clinging on to third spot, they will be fired up to perform against Rams in this all important match. The Rams suffer the loss of Dale Chivas and Mitch Reinhard for this game but see the debut of first year player Chris Scanlon to the side.
