Champion Noosa tiger Caleb 'Cubby 'Isles plays his 150th game for the Fiona Winter Realty / PJ Burns Noosa tigers this Saturday at home. The champion rover has been just as instrumental as any player over the past decade representing the red blue and gold and has been a massive reason behind Noosas reign as an Australian rules power on the Coast. Cubby, as he known by all the Noosa faithfull, has won 3 Senior club champion awards and was a pivotal reason behind the Tigers great successes as premiers in 2010 and 2011. His ball gathering skills and running machine like efforts have always made the little champion rover a favourite amongst Tiger supporters. Not to mention how pivotal he has been since returning to the Noosa side after work commitments and injury plagued his early season in 2014.
In fact he was there once again among the best players on the ground last weekend as the Tigers overran a very competitive Kedron to seal a home qualifying final by 17 points. Congratulations on a terrific milestone Cub and I am sure there will be plenty of the Tiger faithfull down at Weyba Road to celebrate it with you.
As just mentioned , the Noosa Tigers were outstanding in finally over-running Kedron in Brisbane last Saturday in what really was a highly entertaining and up standard game of local footy. Whilst the Tigers trailed narowly at every change ,coach James "The King" Gellie was forever confident that his boys had the legs to run out victors. "Our kicking for goal let us down a bit with a heap more scoring shots than Kedron but I always felt we were in control. They jumped us last time down here and it was just important for us that it didn't happen again and that we were in a position to win the game. i thought the overall effort from the boys was outstanding as stakes were pretty high today," Gellie said.
No one was better than vice captain David Welch who was just brillianrt across half back taking 14 contested marks for the day. As mentioned previously rover Cubby isles was also prominent, along with fellow onballer Tommy McKintrick, as they gathered almost 65 possessions betwenn them. Ryley Buntain continued his great form at centre half back whilst Garry Wallace and Harry Opie were steady down back the entire game. The attack on the footy of experiende inclusion, Shane Davis, was also noticeable in a very rewarding win for the Tigers securing 2nd spot and a week 1 home final.
This Saturday Noosa play cellar dwellers Caboolture at Weyba Rd. The Tigers coaching staff will be looking forward to see the continued team orientated form of the boys heading into the business end of the year. And ofcourse there are still spots up for grabs especially with the reserves playing some super footy in recent weeks to now sit in 3rd position.
Our final Presidents lunch of the year with Richmond hardman, and their last Premiership coach, Tony Jewell will be our special guest. Should be a beauty.
See you down there.
Go Tigers
