THE Noosa Contender of the Codes returned for its third year, with local sporting clubs strapping on the boxing gloves to help fund-raise for charity. The Contender of the Codes brought together willing representatives from six local sporting teams to battle it out in the ring.
All codes take part, including Noosa’s Tigers AFL, Pirates rugby league, Dolphins rugby unionand Lions soccer, plus the Pomona Demons AFL and Tewantin Noosa Thunder cricket club.
All 11 competitors trainined under the watchful eye of local celebrity boxer Israel Kani, at his gym the Noosa Box Office.
The boxing match was a sell-out with all proceeds from the event going to local organisation Sunshine Butterflies.
Jack Hendrie. Cahill Parkes and Rob Purves represented the Noosa Tigers and the first fight saw Jack "Hammer" Hendrie take on the Pirates and come away with a victory for the Yigers. The next fight was a battle of the coaches with Rob "Hulk" Purves Taking on Pirates senior coach Anthony Zipf with the Pirate sending Rob to the canvas in the second round. Pride kicked in and Rob got up and finished the fight although the Pirate took the points. Next fight was fight of the night with "Clubber" Parkes taking on ex Tiger Benny Young. Both boys went toe to toe for the 3 rounds with "Clubber" taking the points for the Tigers. One more fight for "Hammer" Hendrie and "Clubber" Parkes with both claiming victory.
Final standings had Noosa Tigers taking out the Mick Hamilton trophy for most points scored in each fight over the Pirates with the Dolphins third. "Clubber" was judged the best boxer on the night.
All in all great night for all codes to get together and raise $1700 for Sunshine Butterflies.
