Today I have just finished watching the various RDFL Junior grand finals and found myself pondering the balance between the desire to play off for the ultimate prize and the development and individual achievements that our team had throughout the year. Although our year finished without mak-ing the finals, I have been really happy with our year. The group of young
men that combined to be our 2012 Lancefield JFC under 16’s, are guys that I will remember for a long long time.
One of my challenges each season is to try and develop players to think for themselves as footballers on the field. One of the best tests for this is how players go onto the next stage of their footy. Seeing 11 of our guys play
under 18’s already this year, and play well is fantastic. I also believe that our first year players will go on to be strong leaders in the 16’s next year.
There have been heaps of family members who have help out each week and I thank each and every one of you. In particular there have been a number of special people who have helped out this year that I would like to acknowledge. Without these people we would not have been able to play each week.
Karen and Kellie have been fantastic as our team managers throughout the year and I thank them very much for making everything run so smoothly.
Assistant coach Ken Weber has not only been a super support during train-ing and on game day but he has been a great mate. Cheers buddy.
Blake and Brad Meyer and David Johnston-Bailey were also super to have at the bench on game day to help out running and organising game day moves.
Geoff Unwin has helped out as trainer most games which is greatly appreci-ated, particularly given he has some little ones to look after.
Belinda has run our boundary most weeks which has saved some painful weekends for a few old tired legs.
Of the parents and friends who were always up front and happy to help out with various tasks, I send a massive thank you. To Rob Lakin, Len Devlin, Helen Page, Paul Read, Sue Ladzik and even me big buddy Brad Hayes, cheers and thanks heaps. I would like to thank all of the players for your friendship, support and most of all your commitment to the club. Good luck in everything you do in the future and I wish you all the success, health and happiness you deserve.
