Played AFL from under 10’s in 1979 through to 14’s at Hurstbridge Football Club, stopping at 15 whilst working as a Chef.
1999, Panton Hill Football club, Played when the Club was about to fold due to lack of players.
1993 – 2004 Hurstbridge Football Club. Returned to footy at 23 years of age and received a clubman of the year 1993. This lead onto assistant secretary and then secretary and ultimately most jobs within an AFL club having 10 teams from under 10’s through to the seniors. With the Bridges receiving 4 clubman’s awards and life membership. Countless hours and energy’s were put into the running of the Hurstbridge Football Club.
These would be from Canteen or Barwork and manager, Sponsorships, Every game day duties from early morning to late at night, Cleaner. League delegate and tribunal advocate, upgrading facilities via grants and organizing working bees. Function coordinator, Publicity, obtaining a 7 day liquor licence and implementing good sports strategies with in the club via, non smoking, responsible serving of alcohol, Aligned the Juniors and senior club to work together as one and anything else that was needed to be done.
During this time also involved with the local CFA, Played social Tennis & Cricket. and a local history Group.
1997 – 1998 Diamond Valley Football League media team in 1997 calling junior games on Sundays. Writing a column in the league record on the division 2 seniors doing previews and reviews of the games. This was used on the local Plenty Valley FM radio station and a television segment for channel 31 or Optus television either as a presenter or cameraman. Then on Sundays back to the radio station for the coach’s rap up where the home ground coaches called in.
In 2002 I was in a severe motor vehicle accident and spent 2 months in hospital and lots of rehabilitation. With this I had to focus upon myself and married my wife Shez. The systems we had set held the Hurstbridge Football Club in good stead, winning a premiership in 2003 with most of the team coming through the Juniors or true club people. The other great thing was the community of Hurstbridge united as a town and raised funds for the new fire station and the primary school which burnt down. Before my accident I was on the committee for fire station fund raising.
2006 – 2007 Mount Isa AFL, In the Isa joined the local league. This work was via the media and website, Boundary or goal umpiring and Auskick clinics. A highlight was entering a float in the Mardi Gras and winning best senior float with it being recorded for the kick 2kick television program.
2008 - 2013 AFL Townsville, first joined the Thuringowa Bulldogs and then moved across to help the Townsville City Lions. In 2009 the club sat out but the small committee worked to pay off an incurred debt and re-establish the Lions as a fifth team in Townsville. Positions held were / are Vice President and President. Working on the home ground upgrades, Player recruiting, club grants, trainer and runner on game days and fundraising and sponsorships. Receiving the volunteer of the year 2010 and 2011.
2010 – 2011 AFL Townsville. Working as the website editor and record editor. Assisting with the league & Gate keeper for the Wednesday night Colts competition in 2011.
Awarded the volunteer of the year for AFL Townsville league in 2011 & 2013 and for the Townsville City Lions in 2010 & 2011.
President of the Townsville City Lions as we grow the league to five teams.
Helped to Re-open the “Black Cameron Gold Mine’ which went to a depth of 300 feet below ground level, which is over 100 years old. 1992 – 1995.Volunteer.
Being a member of the Hurstbridge CFA I joined as a 15 year old and was part of the running competitions. Then moving up to the Fire fighting and training side of the brigade. Along with fighting fires doing the servicing of the fire extinguishers. As I was the local postman I was available during the day with my local knowledge came into good use. Fixing a few issues we had with street numbers and mapping.
