The East Fremantle Women's Football Club once again have two sides playing for a spot in the WAWFL Grand Finals, with both League and Reserves earning a spot in the Preliminary Finals this weekend.
For the League side, it's a Grand Final rematch, they take on Swan Districts on their home turf. The Sharks will take confidence from the last time the sides met, having emerged victors by 2 points in a low scoring match in difficult conditions. The weather forecast for Sunday doesnt include a lot of sunshine, so the team that takes best advantage of the wet will come out on top.
Whatever the conditions, if recent history is anything to go by, it's bound to be a fantastic game.
Earlier in the day, the Reserves side will once again come up against Coastal Titans; a repeat of last year's preliminary final. It that match, the Sharks suffered a heartbreaking 1 point loss. This year it's a new look Reserves side, with over 60+ players lining up for the Reserves time throughout the year with half of those being new players. Earlier games this season have seen each side win 1 each, with a total of only 2 points differential.
It's a big day for the Club generally, but even more so as they celebrate 150th and 250th game milestones. In the League match, Elly Lambkin will line up for her 150th game, having joined the Sharks at the beginning of the year. Elly is dedicate to the growth of women's football, working as a Development Officer for the WAFC. She began her playing career at the Coastal Titans, before moving briefly to Peel Thunderbirds. Congratulations to Elly on her achievement.
In the reserves match, one of the Sharks stalwarts; Nicole George will celebrate her 250th match. "Georgie", who will also captain the side, brings a wealth of experience to the team, having played football for over 20 years. George began playing in 1997, earning a spot in the 1998-2007 Team of the Decade and the League Leading Goal Kicker award in 1998 and 1998. She joined the Sharks in 2011 and helped the side take out the 2011 Premiership. She has also represented her state our times. Congratulations to Nic George on this impressive milestone.
