Another loss for the Blues , this time by 32 points.
Only 17 players this week which was disappointing and coach JD pulled on the boots for the first time in 2 years and had a good game.
Ashley roped in 2 new recruits with plenty of promise and Carlton and Heps played their first games. Heps could nearly be man of the match with a stunning performance in defence taking numerous marks and running the ball out of defence brushing aside tacklers.
First season rookies Tom and Levi got some good opportunity to play in the middle and get some feeling for the speed of AFL. These guys have a good future in the game.
The eagles got a bit of a jump on us and had 3 quick goals but we got back into it and got 1 back but they got one right on the siren to go in with a 3 goal lead at quarter time. Ross was winning the ruck and Jared , Sam B, and co in the middle were getting their fair share of ball. No fisher brothers this week was a big loss but we coped well without them.
Q2 was the one that cost us with ex blue Sweaty taking for marks and scoring 4 goals right in front. Each mark was contested but it showed the value of playing in front. We got one back but 6 goals down and we had 50 percent of the play. They just made the most of their opportunites and us finding it difficult to get good ball to Richard Bradley who was well covered by NZ rep steve Howard.
Q3 was won by the Blues with Ross dominating the ruck and threatening to go home to his mums 60th birthday party but we managed to keep him on the field for the rest of the game.
Q4 was an even quarter with sweaty getting one more. Wish he had played that well when he was a blue.
Many more positves to come out of the game and other mentions to Dan ,Sam , Chins and Zac with good solid defensive performance. Zac showing he can play both up front and back in just his first season
Training is now back to Wednesdays and at Westminster Park. Daylight savings means we no longer will need lights and we should have good numbers.
Next Weeks game is even earlier with an 1130am start due to AFL grand final which is on TV From 4pm and we are organizing a venue so stay tuned
