Tyntynder recorded a comfortable victory over Nyah-Nyah West United in the opening match in the 2010 Night Series played under lights at Alan Garden tonight.
Coach Simon Bunyon was smiling from ear to ear after the game, not only because of the victory but also because the excellent form shown by the numerous younger Bulldogs players on the night.
The Bulldogs completely dominated the first half with Trent Storer looking in fine touch in winning the majority the taps to provide the runners with first use of the ball.
Bunyon himself won many possessions and his use of the ball was superb. His ability to win the ball and his willing to then bring his teammates into the game was clearly evident from the first bounce.
Zac Denham pace was again a factor in him winning the ball and carrying the ball forward to the advantage of his team.
Young Ultima recruit Kyle Symons showed that he is equally at home when the ball hits the deck as in the air and his use of the ball by hand was outstanding during the night.
Fifteen year old Mitch Seton-Stewart had a dream start to his senior career, kicking a goal with his first touch of the ball.
Veterans Luke O’Toole, Brad Carroll (2 goals each) and Paul Munro were also prominent and will again be vital members of the team.
At half time Bunyon was a satisfied man, knowing he could not have expected any more from his charges than they had delivered, as they held 43 point lead.
He asked for a lift in just one area in the second half, this being in the ‘one per centers”, the tackles, the smothers, the shepherds etc.
The young NNWU team certainly were more competitive in the second half and nobody would have questioned their endeavor.
Bulldogs big men Dean Pound and James Morrison took over from Storer and both acquitted themselves well around the ground and up forward resulting in a goal apiece.
Youngsters Jacob Templeton, Matt Willox, Luke Rundell-Gordon, Gary Goodes (1 goal) and Bryce Delmenico all displayed excellent skills in winning the ball and disposing of it to the advantage of a teammate.
Zane Hunt has started the season in the same manner as he finished last season, burrowing into many a pack to win the hard ball and dish it out to the runners.
Clint Kelly again looked right at home when moved to centre half back after the break, using the ball effectively to start many a forward thrust.
Tim Styles was his ever reliable self, apart from a brief moment deep in the game that no doubt Tim will not be allowed to forget in a hurry!
Another very solid contributor all night in defence was Shannon Dixon, whose reading of the play allowed him to clearly outpoint his opponent.
Will of the wisp Lachie Gilbert was outstanding all night, winning plenty of the ball, and topping his game off with a fine late goal.
Kyle Brasser and Ryan Devereux both look stronger this year and if their efforts tonight were anything to go by, they will be key members of the senior team in 2010.
