Despite a slow start in their Wednesday night clash with Woorinen, the Tyntynder boys came away with a solid win on a very warm night at the Alan Garden Reserve as the 2010 Night Series continued.
With both teams choosing to rest some of their more experienced players, the opportunity was there for the taking for the youngsters of both teams.
The Tigers running brigade was everywhere in the early stages, making the Dogs look slow and even somewhat disinterested.
The Tigers seemed to be playing with half of their team on ball and as a result had loose men free everywhere.
Woorinen had the first three goals on the board before the Dogs managed to man up and start to play some team football and it was veteran Luke O’Toole’s fine pass to a leading Dean Pound that resulted in the Dogs first goal.
Shortly after coach Simon Bunyan, who was again extremely hard at the ball, was again able to find Pound who took a very strong contested mark which resulted in another major.
Pound had a further opportunity just before half time to even the scores but his kick from 30 metres was astray.
Half time scores were Woorinen 3-1-19 leading Tyntynder 2-2-14.
The momentum swing continued after half time when another superb pass from Luke O’Toole resulted in Pound marking and kicking truly.
Woorinen were not to be denied however and for a solid ten minutes they attacked deep into their 50 only to be held at bay by a very determined defence led by youngster Kyle Symons, Tim Styles and Reece Collins.
Tyntynder attacked again and a free paid down field as result of a crude tackle resulted in Sean Sennar slotting one through the big sticks.
In the final minutes, Sennar was able to mark in front of his opponent, the result being his second goal to seal victory for the young dogs.
It was an excellent effort to fight back from three goals down to slow a comfortable, but hard fought, victory.
However, slow starts do not always turn out with this result, and no doubt the coaching staff would not like to see this repeated too often this season.
Final scores:
Tyntynder 5-2-32 def Woorinen 3-1-19
Goalkickers: D Pound (3) and S Sennar (2)
Best Players: Dean Pound, Kyle Symons, Luke O’Toole, Kyle Brasser, Reece Collins and Simon Bunyan
