Seniors
First Quarter:
It did not take coach Simon Bunyan long to make his mark in the CMFL, when within 60 seconds of the opening bounce, his classical rugby style tackle on Woorinen gun Matt Iannucci resulted in Iannucci being forced to sit out the remainder of the game with a badly injured shoulder.
The dogs had all the play in the opening minutes with Dean Pound very prominent. Brad Carroll’s snap from 45 metres saw the Dogs open their account with six points, and Carroll was again involved shortly after, when after receiving a free for a high tackle, he found Clint Kelly only 15 metres out who kicked accurately.
Great work from Pound shortly after found a leading Carroll, who from 35m split the big posts for his second.
The Dogs continued to push forward, and wonderful team play close to the boundary line deep in the forward line, saw Kane Bannam handball to Lachie Gilbert, on to Pound who dribble a goal from the boundary line in true Daicos fashion.
Shortly after Bannam took a strong mark just inside 50, after some excellent play from Bunyan to feed the ball forward, and his kick never looked like missing.
Woorinen were struggling to move the ball out of defence, with the Bulldog forwards namely Kelly, Bannam and Gilbert fighting hard to keep the ball within their scoring zone, this resulting in Carroll snap his third for the term.
When the Tigers did manage to move the ball past the centre of the ground, the Bulldogs defence led by Tim Styles, Paul Munro and Brenton Rowe repelled their efforts. Zane Hunt then found Pound, who went back and from 60 metres out, easily made the distance to bring up maximum points.
Quarter Time Score: Tyntynder 7-2-44 to Woorinen 0-0-0
Second Quarter:
Early in the second term it was again all the Bulldogs but misses to Carroll, after marking, and Bannam let the Tigers off the hook.
Bunyan, running with the flight of the ball took a courageous mark but was met solidly and late by Demaria resulting in a fifty metre penalty. Players converged from everywhere in support of their coach with much pushing and shoving. Despite being badly shaken by the hit, Bunyan found Carroll on the lead who goaled from just inside 50.
Woorinen were certainly finding more of the ball and the contest was becoming more even. Trent Storer had moved into the ruck and his leap was still giving the Dogs first use of the ball. Reece Collins, Brenton Rowe, Brett Conway and Shannon Dixon were all working hard down back.
Ryan Devereux’s handball to Kelly onto Mark Corrie was great team play, resulting in Corrie slotting through a major from 30 metres.
Shortly after Woorinen scored their first goal of the season, at the 17 minute mark of the second term, as a result of a free courtesy of Mark O’Bryan.
Their second followed just 30 seconds later when O’Bryan again interfered and was penalised. O’Bryan had been working hard to this point and was looking solid at centre half back keeping a quality opponent in Nathan Cameron very quiet.
Just prior to half time, Corrie was the reciprocate of a 50 metre penalty, resulting in an easy goal.
Despite a comfortable lead at the major break, the players were on the end of a bake from coach Bunyan, expressing his disappointment at players stepping away from team rules to play their own individual games.
Half Time Score: Tyntynder 10-6-66 to Woorinen 2-3-15
Third Quarter:
The third quarter opened with misses from shots on goal by Carroll and O’Toole, shots you would expect them normally to get.
The next 10 minutes was a battle of defence with the Bulldogs being led by Collins, O’Bryan, Styles and Munro holding strong. Corrie was giving his all in the middle and youngsters Zac Denham, Kyle Brasser, Gilbert and Devereux all lifted their work rate.
Woorinen were not to be denied as they also lifted their work rate, eventually being rewarded at the 10 minute mark when they goaled to keep themselves in the game.
Young recruit Kyle Symons was finding his feet in defence and he was involved in the passage of play that resulted in Brenton Rowe running into an open goal.
Shortly after Rowe ran over the mark, well according to the umpire anyway, resulting in a 50 metre penalty and goal to the Tigers.
Bannam, who had been heavily tagged all day, continued to work hard as he found Gilbert just outside 50. Gilbert took on the man on mark, resulting in him running in and slotting a major from 30 metres.
A courageous effort from Ryan Devereux, where sat under a high ball with three Woorinen defenders bearing down on him, resulted in him receiving a free for high contact and goaling.
Three Quarter Time Score: Tyntynder 13-10-88 to Woorinen 4-3-27
Final Quarter:
Despite holding a comfortable lead at the last break, the Dogs were asked to keep applying pressure and keeping to the game plan.
Lachie Gilbert was continuing to run rings around the Woorinen defence, after two bounces he kicked a wonderful running goal.
Symons, O’Bryan, Conway and Munro were all finding plenty of the ball down back as the Bulldogs kept pushing.
A great team goal followed as Luke O’Toole, who had been working hard to in the second half, found Collins who found a leading Carroll who marked and goaled. Shortly after the Dogs worked the ball across the 50 metre line, with Corrie finding Bunyan, onto O’Toole onto Carroll who marked and goaled again.
The ball was constantly in the Bulldogs forward line as they peppered the goals, but Corrie, O’Toole and Carroll all missed gettable shots on goal.
Tim Styles, who had been holding strong down back all day, drifted forward to find Carroll who handballed to Kelly for a goal.
A goal in the final minute of play to Woorinen was the only time for the quarter where they were able to break the Dogs last line of defence.
Final Score: Tyntynder 17-15-117 defeated Woorinen 5-5-35

The only goal to either team in the opening term was to the Dogs after Michael Crowe marked and kicked truly.

A wonderful team goal resulted from hard work by Gary Goodes, Barry Benfield and Craig Fletcher when Ollie Wise marked and then ran around and goaled.
Shortly after Matt Lanigan kicked a wonderful goal which looked like it had sealed the match for the Dogs as they held a 7 point lead.
Woorinen were not to be denied and they pushed forward to score a point and then shortly after kick a major to tie the game up with only 90 seconds left on the clock.
The Dogs pushed forward from the centre bounce but were unable to sneak any score as Woorinen rebounded into open space down the scoreboard wing. A long running shot from the boundary line into an unguarded goal square just managed to narrowly bounce through for a behind as the siren sounded to provide Woorinen with victory by the narrowest of margin.
Final Score: Tyntynder 6-7-43 defeated by Woorinen 6-8-44
Colts
First Quarter:
Taking the field with just 17 players was always going to make things tough on the Colts and they were made to fight every inch of the way.
The Tigers won the first clearance and drove the ball forward for Fraser to snap a goal before the young Dogs had even touched the ball.
After this the first quarter became a real battle of the back lines with the Dogs held together by a magnificent quarter of football from Centre Half Back Matt Willox, who simply stopped everything that came his way. He received strong support from Zac Pocock, Mitch Seton-Stewart and Kaylem Hately who all combined well to keep driving the ball forward.
Matt Lanigan took a solid mark on the lead and kicked truly to keep the Dogs the lead late in the quarter.
