Seniors
First Quarter:
Pre match it was obvious that the Tyntynder boys would settle for nothing less than a victory such was the intensity in the rooms.
The opening was tight and tense as both teams threw themselves at every contest in an attempt to try and win control of the contest.
It was the 5 minute mark before either team had a scoring opportunity with the Dogs being first on the board after coach Simon Bunyan won a hard ball forward side of the centre and pin pointed a leading Brad Carroll with a perfect pass, who converted for full points.
Paul Munro was in everything early, winning plenty of the ball across half back and driving it deep into attack on a number of occasions, with Carroll holding a spectacular one handed mark from one such forward move to kick his second.
The Saints attack from the centre to open there account with a long point but this was quickly followed by a long goal to the Saints after a poor pass out of the Dogs defence was intercepted.
The momentum had swung as the Saints pumped the ball forward at will to score three further quick goals to open up a handy lead.
The Dogs were still playing positive football and they seemed to really lift after Shannon Dixon won a free at a boundary throw in and converted with a lovely 40 metre goal.
Shortly after O’Toole was dumped, after he disposed of the ball, resulting in a free downfield to Carroll who kicked truly.
Great defence by Mark O’Bryan, Clint Kelly, Zane Hunt and Munro was keeping the Saints forwards under immense pressure, before they finally broke through for a lucky late goal.
The Dogs had a chance right on the siren to score again but Carrolls shot on goal was completely off line.
Quarter Time Score: Tyntynder 4-0-24 to Tooleybuc-Manangatang 5-5-35
Second Quarter:
The Dogs started the second quarter again in a very positive frame as Carroll almost dobbed a pearler from deep on the boundary only to see it just miss to bring up a point.
The Saints attacked but fine play by O’Bryan and Kelly restricted them to a behind.
The Dogs attacked again and Bannam, who was winning plenty of the ball, kicked what looked a long goal only to see the ball bounce off the goal umpire back into play were Carroll pounced and rekicked the goal!
O’Toole was everywhere and winning the ball at will, finding a running Bunyan who slotted an outstanding goal from 45 metres.
At the 20 minute mark of the second quarter the Dogs suffered a major blow when Carroll injured a hamstring when leading to a pocket and subsequently limped off.
Late in the quarter, strong team play when O’Toole handballed to Bunyan who handballed to Kyle Brasser who kicked a lovely 40 metre goal to give the Dogs a handy ten point lead at the major change.
Half Time Score: Tyntynder 7-5-47 to Tooleybuc-Manangatang 5-7-37
Third Quarter:
Coach Bunyan reminded the boys that the third quarter was maybe going to decide their whole season and asked them to continue to play in the same positive manner that they had been playing in the opening half.
Bannam short to Kyle Symons back to Bannam was lovely play but unfortunately Bannam’s kick was just off line.
Brasser, who was having a fine game, kicked long to the square where Carroll, on one leg, was held high and received the free, but he had already played on and with advantage paid he kicked a goal.
Brasser soon after pumped the ball ling again to the square where Carroll held his ground strongly as three opponents tried to push him under the ball, with the free ball landing in Bannams hands who turned and goaled.
Again the Dogs attacked and when Ryan Devereux was tackled later after pumping the ball to the goal square, the free was paid down field to Carroll who kicked his second for the quarter.
O’Toole seemed to be at every contest as he marked strongly 40 metres out but his kick was off to the right for a point.
Carroll was proving a real thorn in the thigh of the Saints, even on one leg, as shortly after he marked a nice pass from Devereux but this time his shot from 35 metres only managed a behind.
The Dogs defence was sensational led by Kelly, Styles, O’Bryan and Hunt and supported by Munro, Rowe, Dixon and Conway, as they hardly even let the wind pass they were so miserable. Denham was prominent around the wings and his pace was causing havoc.
O’Toole again marked strongly some 70 metres out and his pass found Reece Collins who goaled from 25 metres.
Late in the quarter Bannam had another chance to finish the Saints but his shot was just off line.
What a great quarter by the Dogs, as they again prevented the Saints from scoring a major, whilst at the same time playing positive team football to lead by 37 points at the final break.
Three Quarter Time Score: Tyntynder 10-9-75 to Tooleybuc-Manangatang 5-8-38
Final Quarter:
Bunyan made an outstanding passionate speech to his players at three quarter time, telling them not to be satisfied with three fine quarters, that they still had a job to do to get the points and that they deserved to win.
The Saints also knew they had to lift and they came out running at the commencement of the last quarter and managed to score the opening goal after 3 minutes of play.
It was now or never for the Dogs and Brasser took it upon himself to get the team over the line as he weaved through heavy traffic to bomb long to the square from 50 metres where some wonderful shepherding from Carroll allowed the ball to tumble over for a goal.
The Saints were not to be denied as they attacked again, initially scoring a oint but then slotting through another major to remain in the contest.
Trent Storer, who had really lifted his game after quarter time, marked strongly across half back, and sent the Dogs back into attack, where Bannam swooped on a loose ball over the back to goal, after Carroll had received a free.
Hunt was super in defence with a couple of desperate saves and forcing the ball forward to Bunyan, onto Styles, back to Bunyan who found O’Toole, who despite spilling the mark, recovered to kick a goal and seal the game.
A gang tackle by Hunt and Devereax resulted in a free to Devereax at half back but the resultant two 50 metre penalties meant Deveareax was on the goal line when he had a shot and hence scored a goal.
O’Toole to Bunyan back to O’Toole who found Storer who gathered and kicked an outstanding running goal.
Little brother Brock, who had spent a good part of the game on the bench, almost replicated his brother’s efforts shortly after but his shot narrowly missed.
Denham won a hard ball on the wing and found O’Toole who with the aid of a 50 metre penalty after the clearly rattled Saints again back chatted the umpire, which resulted in a another goal just before the final siren.
This was an outstanding win, a fine team display with all 22 contributing in some way, and now leaves the Dogs in the push for the finals in September.
Final Score: Tyntynder 17-12-114 defeated Tooleybuc-Manangatang 7-10-52
