Back to back premierships! Winning one flag is a dream for most clubs, but to go "back to back" is a goal that is rarely achieved. The young Dogs were able to dig deep and achieve their pre-season goal. Winning was achieved the hard way, with Woorinen proving why they finished a game clear at the end of the home and away season. They were clearly the better team during the year, but in the game that decides the best team it was Tyntynder that prevailed. The Dogs trailed at every change, the Tigers applied pressure at the stoppages, had done their "homework" and set the early tone for the contest.
Just two points separated both teams before Lachie Gilbert slotted home the winning goal. Less than a minute was left on the clock and it was the only time the boys had their noses in front all day. The old adage "it ain't over until the final siren rings" held true. At one stage in the 3rd term the boys needed 6 unanswered goals to hit the front. This they did. In an inspirational final term they kept the weary Tigers goal-less and piled on 5 goals.
B.O.G Kyle Symons led the way. Switching to C.H.B in the 3rd term he took telling marks and helped keep the Tigers at bay. When the game had to be won he went forward and kept the goal umpires running for both flags. Matt "the Sherriff" Willox bounced back after an early scare from Billy McInnes and was an influencial rebounding defender. Mitch, already a Colts premiership player, again "stood tall", winning the hard ball and setting up the 4th quarter surge. He has developed immensely from last years premiership win, and will be a factor in the 2011 campaign. Lachie Gilbert eventually "threw" the successful early match tag and was a dominant force. It was fitting that he "slotted" the match winner after shaking off 3 quarters of heavy tagging. Brock Storer and Cas " The Man " Mitchell held the half back together and provided the iinspiration for the mid field, led by "Snooze" and "Bruce" to get the job done in the last term. Zac Pocock , and 'Mozza", "Undies", Wil Smith and "Wardy" had kept the Boys in touch in the first half and were there to help get the job done when it had to be "iced". Notable cameo performances came from "Zeke", Jake, Bo , Kenneth, "Tempy" "Bish" Lanners", Kaylem, and Mohamad. This was a fantastic effort that will be remembered for years to come. .. it was a gutsy premiership vistory that came about because of a total team effort and commitment. Special mention to "Bakes" who was instrumental in getting th team to finals.
Congratulations to 'Shooter" , Andy Seton - Stewart, Zac Bull, Rod Clemson and the rest of the crew who kept the boys on the path during a hectic 4 week finals campaign. Thanks to parents , senior players and significant others who suported the team in their quest for "back to back".
