A 5.30am departure from Swan Hill meant some enjoyed a nap on the way, but by 11am heart rates were up and the sweat was a flowin' as bronzed torsos were put through their paces in the gym. "Bunny" had done his homework well, with all players pitted against someone in their own weight division. Glove work with partner, punch bag sessions and, the activitiy they had all been waiting for, the two minute sparring session, ensured that every player was pushed to the limit.
The highlight of the gruelling 90 minute session was the return bout between 'Charlie" and "Cozza". The referee was over heard saying to Mal "this is the bout I have been waiting for". Unbiased judges were unable to separate the two Bulldog tyros at the end of the two bone jarring minutes.
Players jogged to a water logged oval for some very heavy close-in clearance drills and set plays. The Splatt St 'hill" had nothing on the slopes of the hills that formed the basis of the final session - the 14km run. To their credit all players completed all sessions and the evening meal and return trip home reflected what the weekend was all about - the consolidating of a core group that is intent on climbing the CMFL ladder in 2011.
Many thanks to President Mal who put in untold hours putting the trip together, and coach 'Bunny" who ensured the program on offer was a first rate one. Bigger, better stronger in 2011
Watch out for the two minute video - "Cozza vs "Charlie". Ringside seats coming soon to a Clubroom near you...
