The editor has been a little slack with Club Chatter over the past month so it’s time to catch up on the random happenings...
The Good Asian
During one of our games an IFWFC player was asked by an opponent if we were the team that puts make-up on before our games. After being told that that wasn’t us, 5 minutes later the same girl said “Oh I know what team you are. You’re the one with the Good Asian!”
Yes, Jenni is a great player and we’re glad other teams have noticed it too!
BC’s Great Game (on the sideline...??)
After the Modbury game, BC was asked up in the club roms if she was number 8 out on field and was told she had a great game. Number 8 is of course Spence... BC was gobsmacked and thought this bloke was joking but then realised he was completely and utterly for real. BC’s thoughts at the time? “But I am Black!...”
Perhaps Spence’s long skins are confusing the spectators?!
It Pays to Listen...
Who was the IFWFC player that, quite casually, ran through a mark and even had the umpire yelling out to her “Sareena! I even told you not to do that!”? (Oooops, think we just gave the answer … :/ ) Only Sareena…
Never Too Old for a Biff
In the Battle of the Doggies, there were a few biffs and ‘almost melees’ but none funnier than when Teresa and her player were having a go at each other and another Centrals player yells out "Don't pick on her, she's old!"
She ain’t 50 yet kiddo! ;)
Antrobus Falls
Word has it that Niagra Falls is now known as Antrobus Falls with speculation that Shannan once peed for half an hour before a game..
Miss Bulldog 2013 – Watch Out Girls!!
Bridget Gilson and Kim Brooks have bravely put their hands up to be part of Ingle Farm’s Miss Bulldog 2013. The two players from IFWFC will be battling it out for the title of the first ever Mr. Bulldog. Gilson has already given a teammate “a heads up that I may end up flirting with you and the rest of the girls, all for a good show hey?” Yes Gilson, all for a good show ;) …
When told that she does that anyway, Gilson’s response was “Pffft please! You ain't seen nothing yet!”
Look out ladies, Gilson will be on the prowl Saturday night…
The Curse of IFWFC…
At the start of the season, with 33 names on the playing list, it was mentioned that we had too many players to choose from and we would have to fight hard for our spots. Fast forward to 3 weeks in and IFWFC players have been dropping like flies.
In round 4 against Modbury Jess Sedunary broke her finger in the first quarter while Karen Ryan broke her thumb. Also against Modbury, in her first game back after travelling around Europe, Vicki Burford badly sprained her ankle when going up for the ruck at the start of the fourth quarter. A broken hand to Kelly Spence in round 5 against Morphettville Park and Shannen Solly jarring her back meant that Lorraine Karpany Buckskin (feet), Jacinda Roy and Shauna Robins (shin splints) have had to push through their injuries to make the numbers up on the field.
Good news though, Crystal Sumner made her return after 11 months on the sideline! On the weekend just gone we saw Sedunary and Solly take to the field again (although with the finger still broken and the back still not 100%, they probably shouldn’t have played – isn’t that right girls?! But credit to you!)
Mid-April to Mid-June - Birthday Central
IFWFC had four birthdays in five days during May with Kirsty Cortvriend’s on the 10th, celebrating her 24th, Bridget Gilson on the 13th (19) and Shannen Solly and Jasmine Antrobus sharing their birthdays on the 14th. Solly is no longer a teenager as she hit the 20 bracket and Jazzy turned the big 1-8.
Assistant Coach Kazza had her birthday on the 26th April but unfortunately wasn't able to get the present she hoped for - a win over Port Adelaide in her last game as acting coach.
Spence celebrated her birthday in style in mid-April when a group of IFWFC players took the racetrack and showed their competitive juices in go-karting. This was followed up by a laser skirmish clash before watching footy, having pre-drinks and hitting town!
Phew... think that has covered most of it!
