Crystal Sumner is fast becoming the number one ticket holder for the Ingle Farm Women’s Football Club as she is yet again out of action and stuck on the sidelines.
Sumner missed all of 2012 when, in her first and only game for the year, tackled a Centrals player and partially tore the medial ligament in her right knee.
Back for an exhibition match in an Aboriginal Carnival in October 2012, Sumner twisted her ankle leaving her with a grade 2 strain of her Syndesmosis ligament (we too will pretend we know what that is!).
With her foot in a moon boot for months, Sumner worked hard on rehab to make her way back into the 2013 side for the round 5 clash against Morphies.
It is here we should mention that during her rehab, Sumner injured herself while on the sidelines one training.. With no one within 50 metres of her, how did she do it? Sumner was standing there with her foot resting on a ball and next minute she was flat on her arse with a sprained ankle!
You think that would be it for Sumner, however 5 games after her comeback and she manages to break her ankle in not one, but two, places during the third quarter against Pooraka in round 9. A stellar start to the game with 2 goals, Sumner went to tackle an opposition player and fell back, her foot had twisted but the opposition player landed on it and she heard a break.
The smart thing to do in that situation would be to head to the hospital and get it checked out. We can happily say that Sumner did that, albeit 2 days later and after walking around on it all night after the game!
So Sumner is back in the comfort of her moon boot and back on the sideline. With her 2013 season over, Spence made the remark “Crystal Sumner - 50 games in 2030!” Unfortunately for Sumner, we think Spence just might be right!
