Gippsland Knights Round Three Wrap

Following a very wet winter season it has been a bit of a surprise to the players to be playing on dry, firm fields. Our first two rounds have yielded a mixed bag of results and it was with some trepidation that the Knights prepared to host the might of the South East Cougars and our teams contested well.

U13 Girls
The U13 girls were thrilled to register their first goal of the season when Meg scored in the second half.  The final score was 1-2.  Gippsland held the Cougars scoreless in the second half with great play in defence. The team was able to catch the opposition forwards out with offside trap as they pushed forward.

U13 Boys
The U13 boys were defeated 0-5 by a very strong Cougar outfit. The keepers John and Andrew both made numerous saves.  The team is starting to gel together and the forwards are paying particular attention to retaining possession and passing.

U14 Boys
This game was played at a frenetic pace for the whole 60 minutes.  Final scores were 1-2 with Cougars scoring the winning goal in the final minute of the game.  The Knights goal was scored from a perfectly weighted ball to the edge of the box during a corner and finished off with a header into the goal.

U15 Girls
The U15 girls went down 0-5. Despite having 75% of possession in the first half they were 0-3 at half time and never recovered.  The team is finding it difficult to make the transition from the structure at club level in the winter to the structure required for Champions League.  The 1-4-3-3 structure is proving to be a challenge for players to assimilate and translate into instinctive movements on the pitch, but they have plenty of time to improve.

U15 Boys
After breaking through last week for a win the U15 boys followed up with a gritty 1-0 win in a closely fought contest.

U17 Girls
The U17 girls continue to improve on their structure and set up and were rewarded with a 2 all draw.

U17 Boys
This was an entertaining match on the wide open pitch both teams took full advantage of the space and Gippsland Knights were thrilled to come away with a 3-1 win. Gippsland pressed home strongly scoring 2 goals in the last 15 minutes of the match.
