VCL Round Seven Wrap

Wet weather caused several of the matches to be washed out including all Western Wolves v Gippsland Knights matches, but those matches that did take place were mostly of a high standard.

Fans were treated to a superb match in the Under 13 Boys at Kingston Heath with Rivers FC edging South East Cougars 2-1. Both sides played incredibly attractive football and should be commended on their efforts. Southern Bluetongues had an entertaining 5-2 win over Loddon Mallee Lightning while North East Diamonds edged past Northern All Stars 2-1. Wimmera South Coast Eagles overcame North West Wanderers 1-0 and Central City and Eastern FC had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Just like the boys, Rivers and South East Under 13 Girls teams played attractive football. Despite Rivers winning the match 3-0, both teams should be happy with the style of football they presented. North East Diamonds overcame Northern All Stars while Southern Bluetongue defeated Loddon Mallee Lightning 4-1, ensuring that the pair remain on top of the table. North West Wanderers secured a 2-0 win over the gallant Wimmera South Coast while the Central v Eastern match was washed out.

One goal was enough for Loddon Mallee Lightning to secure three competition points against Southern Bluetongues in the Under 14 Boys. North East Diamonds fought from 1-0 down to draw 1-1 with Northern All Stars. South East had a thrilling 5-3 win over Rivers while North West defeated Wimmera South Coast 4-1.

It was a high scoring week in the Under 15 Girls competition, with three goals the lowest winning margin. Despite the somewhat lopsided scores, most teams tried their best to play a technical brand of football. North West Wanderers were fairly impressive, despite going down 4-1 to Wimmera South Coast Eagles. South East defeated Rivers 4-0 and Central City went one better, defeating Eastern 5-0. Loddon Mallee defeated Southern 6-2 while North East defeated Northern 6-1 to finish up the rounds.

North East Diamonds were the big winners in the Under 15 Boys this week defeating Northern All Stars 8-2 to bring them level on competition points with Western Wolves, who have a game in hand. Southern were impressive at both ends of the park against Loddon Mallee playing very well in their 3-0 win. Central City had an explosive second half to beat Eastern FC 4-1 after being tied 1-1 at the interval. South East Cougars defeated Rivers FC 3-1 while North West defeated Wimmera 4-2.

Loddon Mallee Lightning and North East Diamonds remain on top of the Under 17 Girls table after beating Southern Bluetongues 9-0 and Northern All Stars 8-0 respectively. With things so close, it will be interesting to see which side has the advantage once technical and respect points are released. In other matches, Wimmera South Coast Eagles defeated North West Wanderers 6-0, Rivers beat South East 4-1 and Central City overcame Eastern 3-1.

There were plenty of goals in the Under 17 Boys with at least five scored in each of the five matches. Wimmera South Coast put an another sterling performance this week, defeating North West Wanderers 5-0. Eastern enjoyed a 4-2 win over Central City, Southern Bluetongues defeated Loddon Mallee Lightning 4-3, South East Cougars held their nerve to see off Rivers FC 3-2 and North East Diamonds drew 4-4 with Northern All Stars.
