David (left) has accepted the Club’s offer to take on the Senior Coaching role for 2012 after acting in a caretaker capacity for the last couple of weeks. David has played and coached in Central Victoria and Canberra and with his weatlh of experience the Club believes that he will be ideally suited to the Marlins. We are thankful for David seeking out the Marlins and wanting to be part of our club.
Following considerable input over the last few years into the junior senior pathway we have a strong junior base and talented younger players. The Northern Sharks (a combined Nelson Bay JAFC and Port Stephens JAFC side) were Under 16’s premiers in 2011 and the Nelson Bay Under 18’s made the Grand Final. The club is seeking players for the 2012 season. There is the opportunity for senior players to be part of a club "on the way up", to show strong leadership, to mentor and develop the clubs younger player talent base. The club has fantastic facilities at both Nelson Bay and Medowie and we are extremely grateful of the support from Port Stephens Council. Dick Burwell Oval at Nelson Bay is in fantastic condition. Other that No 1 Sport Ground Burwell Oval is by far the best playing surface in the whole of the BDAFL and with its sand base (and no cricket pitch) is one of the few grounds in the competition "not" affected by rain! The club is currently training Tuesday and Thursday nights at Nelson Bay. From the first Tuesday in April the club will start training on a Tuesday night at Medowie with Thursday night continuing at Nelson Bay.
For 2012 season the club has assembled an enthusiastic committee with everyone working hard of the field to make the year a success. We want the Marlins to be seen a strong Community Club where everyone is welcome. Late last year we achieved Level 2 in the Good Sport Program and hope to achieve Level 3 early in the season this year.
