CDHBU Under 14’s are Premiers after they defeated Henty by 29 points in the Grand Final on Saturday.
After being runners-up in 2008, 2010 & 2011 the club finally won their first Hume League football Under 14’s premiership.
Henty were first out of the blocks kicking the first goal to take a 8 point lead before the Power settled in and Matt Walker got the Power back within 2 points before a Harley Ralph goal enable the Power to take a 5 point lead into quarter time.
With Ryan Bruce and Andrew Phibbs dominating in the centre of the ground and ground level players in Jesse O’Donoghue and Cameron Wilson winning plenty of the ball the Power was able to kick the first two goals of the second quarter through Walker to get out to 18 point lead.
Henty hit back with a goal and the Power went into half time leading by 10 points, 4.2 to 2.4.
The third quarter was a real struggle with Jimmy Hanrahan, Josh Tidd & Taylor Baker giving their all for the Power.
Tom Webb, Will Johnston, Steven Cordwell and David Garcia were on top in defence as the Power was able to hold Henty scoreless for the quarter.
Kane Mills was able to kick the only goal for the quarter as they Power took an 18 point lead into the last change.
Joel Costarella, Adrian Darby and Deklan Yates were doing their part for the Power to hold the lead.
Jordan Renner then put the Power supporters in raptures when he slot home a great goal, 4 minutes in the last quarter to give a the Power a 24 point lead.
Youngsters Bailey Minogue, Brayden Curran, Tom Weaver, Matt McDonald, Anthony Carroll, Shannon Leahy & Matthew Bush showed the future is bright for the Power as they were able to hold out the Swampies.
And when Mills kicked his second with a minute left on the clock the Power was well and truly home.
The siren sounded shortly after and the Power supporters and players could celebrate a great 7.5 to 2.6 victory.
Ryan Bruce’s tireless display in the centre of the ground was rewarded with the League’s Best on Ground award.
In a great family tradition Andrew Phibbs, Ryan Bruce, Jimmy Hanrahan, joined their fathers and grand fathers as Premiership players for the club, while Cameron Wilson, Bailey Minogue & Kane Mills joined their fathers as Premiership players for the club.
Congratulations to Coach Mark O’Donoghue and his hard working helpers in Mark Phibbs & Keith Mills and the players for all the hard work they have done this season and were rewarded with the Premiership.
