The CDHBU Power will have both junior football sides in the Grand Final after the Under 17’s had a good 30 point victory over Howlong at Walbundrie on Saturday.
The game promised to be a tight contest with a victory each throughout the season.
The Power started well with Will Johnston getting the Power on the board early with a goal and when Jordan Lavis kicked a good rolling goal the Power had the first two goals of the game.
Tim Heagney was giving onballers Jack Wynne & Jay O’ODonoghue first use of the ball and the Power was looking dangerous.
Howlong hit back with a goal as the Power went to quarter time leading 2.3.15 to 1.3.9.
The second quarter started in style with Heagney down to Wynne and then straight to the chest of Dylan Cornell as the Power goaled after 30 seconds.
Matthew Baker, Andrew Phibbs and Jordan Lavis were playing great across half back while O’Donoghue, Kane Mills & Jake Boyle were winning plenty of touches and when Matthew Walker goaled the Power was out to an 18 point lead.
Howlong didn’t finish in second spot for no reason and they hit back with two goals to close out the quarter as the Power led 4.7 to 3.5 at half time.
The Power started brilliantly again in the third with an early goal to Matthew Walker and when O’Donoghue goaled shortly after the Power was out to a 19 point lead.
Howlong hit back with a goal, but a brilliant smoother and goal to Phibbs had the Power supporters in raptures. Walker was becoming dangerous, with his marking standing out, as he kicked another 2 goals to make it three for the quarter as the Power went to the last change leading 9.10.64 to 5.6.36.
The Power’s day soured in the last quarter with Lavis going down with a knee injury, but the Power was able to hold out the Spiders in the last quarter with both sides unable to kick a goal as the Power ran out 9.14.68 to 5.8.38 winners
Jay O’Donoghue was award Best on Ground by the Hume League after a tireless display in the midfield.
