Campbelltown reserves were looking for a win when they took on Randwick City Saints. With a mad rush to Pioneers Park after the game was controversially moved to Randwicks home ground campbelltown took to the first quarter with intent. A intense first quarter saw Campbelltown lead going into quarter time 15-14.
The second half was a tightly fought contest with both sides failing to trouble the scorers as 5 behinds were kicked amazingly had the half time scores looking like a rugby league game 17 all at the main break. The second half started and continued in the same throne. A classic run from wiz kid Luke McCann saw him run from deep in defence into forward fifty hitting Hudson who in turn found Tyerman who snapped a goal keeping Campbelltown in the hunt.
At 3 quarter time it was anyone's match as Randwick held a narrow 2 point lead 35 to 33. A early injury to vice captain O'Brien and McCann's early exit left Campbelltown low in run and direction and it showed with Randwick kicking 2 quick ones which ended any hope the blues had. Randwick pulled ahead as Campbelltown failed to convert there chances whilst the Saints managed 5 majors against the flow of the game to take the win leaving the blues zero and 2 to start the season.
Campbelltown will need all hands on deck at training as they face UNSW/ES on Sunday at village green which is A must win game for the blues if they are to stay in touch with the top sides.
