Sydney AFL are currently counting down their 20 players and coming in at number 14 is the UNSW-ES Bulldogs back flanker Ryan Plant.
Ryan Plant
Club: NSW/ES
Previous: Wagga Tigers (2003-07), West Adelaide [SANFL] (2008-09)
Age: 29
Position: Half-Back Flank
Analysis:
One of the greater compliments for Plant is that his transfer to UNSW/ES coincided with a Premier Division premiership in that same year (2012).
A hard-at-it general across half-back, Plant’s versatility is a strength of his game.
Often getting the best small forward, he is also able to play tall, all whilst winning his own ball and taking control of the defensive structures.
His football resume makes for interesting reading having cut his teeth with Wagga Tigers in the strong AFL Canberra competition a decade ago before moving to South Austeralia to play in the SANFL with West Adelaide.
One of the most competitive players in AFL Sydney, he still has some years left at the top and will be a great tutor for the plethora of UNSW/ES pups coming through the Under 19 program.
