Next Saturday Tigers captain, Peter Trompf, will play his 100th senior game for Noosa when he leads the boys out for their game against Maroochydore.
Pete moved to Noosa with his family in 1992 when his father Ashley was appointed Senior Captain Coach at Noosa. Pete began his football career, at the age of 6, in 1993 with the Tigers Under 9's with Alby Hancock as coach. Injury and time away from the club has slowed his march to the 100 game mark. A true Tiger, he played his first senior game in 2005, played in the 2010 and 2011 Premierships sides, was the seniors Best and Fairest in 2008 and was appointed captain in 2013.
We believe it is worth a revisit to the interview we had with Pete when he was appointed captain as it tells a lot about who Pete is.
Noosa Tigers: What do you hope to bring to the club as Captain?
Pete Trompf: The first thing that I would hope to bring is Unity & Success, the two go side by side. My character will influence our football club, both on the ground and off. This includes all things at Weyba Road, around the town and on our bus trips away representing the club. I know after years of playing football the character that this takes. I hope to take Noosa Tigers places, as so many past captains have before.
On a more personal football note, I look forward to taking my game to a new level. What I will bring will be honesty, accountability, passion, aggression and many good memories for all involved in the club.
NT: Do you have any Role models?
PT: Quite a few actually. My father has always been a role model. I was a regular on the away game car trips tgo Brisbane with him and all his close mates: those blokes are now all genuine role models to me. Being the only son with a football-ingrained father has taught me the effort and determination it takes to be successful. I have grown up with a football in hand, many thanks to my Dad.
I have been lucky to have a group of hardworking successful people around me growing up, and it is these people who have provided me with a clear idea as to what qualities successful leaders should possess.
Brad Cross (Spons) came to me at my first senior home game, behind those old faithful clubrooms, what back then was ‘Milo’s pocket’ but today would be more known to those as the farmers markets. What Crossy said to me in the warm up, I will take those nine words and draw a lot of inspiration from them in the coming season. As a 17 year old ‘brains’ showed me the ropes of home and AWAY Tigers football. Brad I can’t thank you enough for your continued input as my player sponsor.
Michael Jordan: 'I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying.'
In life. My Mum.
In sport . My sister Kierra. Anyone who plays sport at a professional level (and I’ve been lucky to have one in my family) understands the courage and commitment it takes to be successful at the highest level.
NT: What will being Captain mean to you?
PT: This is a difficult one to answer. Back in 1992, I was all decked out in Hawthorn colours, boots and all, only 3 foot tall next to my father who was running out on to the ground as captain the Noosa Tigers. I remember coming off, shattered I couldn’t play. Bart Jaques, a Life Member of the club, said, “Don’t worry, that’ll be you one day, Peter Trompf Captain of the Noosa Tigers”. I thought to myself, “I hope”. Who said hopes and dreams don’t come true. Thanks Thel, Judy, Bart and Doug and I’d like to take this time to thank everyone involved in my up bringing at the Noosa Tigers, I’m truly grateful for your love.
Anyone who knows me, or has watched me play in the Tigers jumper, would know the passion and love I have for my mates and the club.
