We sat down with new Tigers captain Tom McKittrick, and asked him how it feels to be appointed captain, what he would bring to the role and about the Tigers. Here is what he said........
"I'm absolutely stoked that Gel and the boys have given me the opportunity to Captain the side. Particularly with everyone having voted last week, it's great to have their backing. To be nominated/voted in by your peers according to the characteristics and attributes that had been identified is very humbling, and something I'm quite proud of. I'm also extremely thankful for the well wishes from so many others involved with the club as a result of my appointment. I've been fortunate enough to have played with some great leaders in my time - particulary Bova (Adam Bovalino) and Trompfy (Peter Trompf) here at Noosa - and while I won't necessarily be changing the way I go about things, I'll definitely look to draw upon some of the things I've learnt from each of them.
I moved to Noosa from Echuca (VIC) just over 5 years ago after having holidayed up here a few times and visiting Rabbit and a few of the other Echuca connections while I was here. I'd lost both of my parents in the years prior, and so was ready for a change of scenery when I decided that if I enjoyed holidaying in Noosa so much, I might as well live here. As most of you will agree, the lifestyle here definitely has its perks. The network that I've established here has also made the move significantly more enjoyable, and a large part of that for me is our footy club and all of the people involved in it (players, coaches and supporters).
We've enjoyed some great success during my time here - in my four season's we've finished 1st, 1st, 3rd and 2nd (I was in WA for 2013) - and I look forward to playing as large a part as I can to go one better this year. We've again got plenty of new faces to integrate, but with some of the quality players/people we've picked up, and everyone buying in to Gel's game plan the way that they have, I can only see another successful and enjoyable year on and off the field.
Obviously, with the structure of the voting system, our leadership group has the support of the entire playing group and I'm sure that they'll be a significant support to myself and Gel and the match committee. There's a good mix of old (that's you Dogga) and young (Jai & maybe Harry), while Cubby and Hilly are both exceptional footballer's with plenty of experience and knowledge to pass on. I would also anticipate that both Beama and Bushie will be great assets to the club this year, and will have large parts to play in the direction of the playing group.
Looking forward to another successful season for all teams, and the club as a whole."
