The KEDRON Redlegs won a nail biter in the Seniors yesterday. On an overcast day perfect for footy, fourth placed Kedron hosted second placed Noosa Tigers in an often brutal encounter, in which no quarter was asked nor given.
The Redlegs led at every break but Noosa showed that there position on the ladder is well deserved, and displayed a dogged determination to stay in the game. Despite local pundits" concern at the number of outs for the Leggers, the boys stuck hard together to emerge as one point victors.
Fez was outstanding on the wing and is enjoying a stellar season, having settled back into the team after missing the first few rounds due to work commitments. His work rate was first rate, as was his decision making and ability to win one on one contests. GFunk kicked a full handful, and again displayed a running capacity which results in his being a potent force in our forward line. Hoodie returned from a three game absence and had immediate impact with a three goal display at Full Forward. The whole side however, deserves a mention for their tenacity and high work rate throughout the day. Again our midfield was strong with Double, Chiv, Zooey and big Jake, providing first use of the footy on many occasions. Congrats to Rhino Yorston for receiving yesterday's 'third best on ground', after a mature display of disciplined football, matched with good decision making and clever disposal by foot. Crafty was best of the back six, on a day where all can hold their heads high.
Final Score: Kedron 13.12 - 90 Noosa 13.11 - 89
Not so good news for the Ressies, who squandered an early lead and positive signs of sound teamwork, to fall victim to a never-say-die Noosa side by twelve points.
Unfortunately the boys allowed a great opportunity to slip by, as they seemed unwilling to put in a four quarter effort. A lesson well learnt again, for a side that like many has to change every week, which makes teamwork hard to attain. However there are no excuses, and the boys will know that the old cliché of playing four quarters was never truer than in their recent displays. Some home truths maybe on the horizon if this side is to arrest some on field bad habits, which no doubt will be a concern and sure to be addressed by coaching staff over the long weekend break from footy. Happily, all is not lost, and out of adversity comes triumph, which is often the measure of a team’s character and guts.
Final Score: Kedron 11.3 - 69 Noosa 12.10 - 82
The thirds did not play this weekend, but will be the only Kedron senior side playing over the upcoming long weekend.
Good luck to the Thirds boys, and the Redlegger wishes you all have a restful break, whilst our players do the same, in preparation for our next away game against new second place holders Maroochydore in a fortnight.
The Redlegger!
