Kedron had big wins over Caboolture in two grades yesterday.
The return of a couple of players from injury, and the knowledge that more are to come, has Redlegs supporters feeling upbeat as our season heads toward the business end.
Caboolture toiled hard all day and it is a credit to their team that they never gave up in either grade.
For KEDRON, the seniors took the opportunity to welcome back player-coach Ducey from a long stint on the sidelines and he found his touch very quickly. The run will do him the world of good, and the players were clearly lifted by his presence on the field.
It was a day for our players to implement and fine tune some game strategies, and for two of four quarters this was achieved. Disappointing to see Pun, go down late, after getting plenty of hard earned possessions in and under. We await with fingers crossed, the outcome of medical diagnosis on his knee.
Hoodie and Jakey suffered ankle injuries, and we hope today will bring good news for them both and our team.
Best for KEDRON was Fez, who has been very strong all year and is really hitting his straps. He is clearly an asset to our midfield and is a very capable footballer, skilled on both sides of his body, and is getting plenty of footy around contests and in the open. His work rate is exceptional. Jakey played well despite being hampered by a swollen ankle, and up forward Leamz is showing ominous signs of the form which had backlines worried last year.
Overall a day when the boys got the job done, and again confirmed in their minds, the game plan needed for our tilt at the finals in a few weeks.
Final scores: 29-26-200 to 2-2-14
The Ressies were good after a week where some home truths were discussed behind closed doors. In a game which is hard to identify form, the strong victory was important, but more so because of the way it was achieved. There were glimpses of a return to the type of game structure that all coaching staff have been preaching since the preseason.
It was great to see Mill continue with his strong season, and he was almost brutal in his desire to win every contest. He is a strong man, and a vital cog, if this side is to have a real crack at finals footy. Keaysey again got lots of touches and his work rate is exceptional. Others to impress were Matty Duffield, Cookie, Seany Hennessey and Pearcey. Matty Smith returning from injury, had a good hit out and it was good to see him jag a couple of majors and take some strong marks from smart positional play. The team went well overall, but all are aware of the importance of producing these efforts against sides above them on the ladder.
Final scores: 14-23-107 to 4-3-27
Our intrepid thirds, played Kenmore on Friday night despite being undermanned in terms of numbers. Their performance again convinced everyone, that with a little support from those players who have been unavailable for various reasons, they can be competitive. Despite losing to Kenmore, coach Robbo and the stalwarts of this team have held their ground, and shown the character which makes these guys an integral part of our footy club. So guys, how about putting your hand up and giving the boys a hand both on and off the field, in true red and blue tradition.
