Kedron AFC wishes to express sincere condolences to the family of arguably our greatest non-home grown player, Lindsay Jacob, on his passing early last week.
Anyone who had the pleasure of seeing Jaco play would not argue that he was the toughest pound for pound player of his era. A pacey rover, with a devastating left foot stab kick, Lindsay took on all comers, big and small alike. His leadership was inspirational to his team mates, and he was as good marking overhead and in packs, as he was in the hard contest.
Lindsay joined Kedron as captain-coach in 1970-74 after playing two games for North Melbourne in 1969. He was appointed full time coach at Kedron in what was a bold move for that era. He represented the Hume League (1964-66) and Ovens & Murray League (1967-68) before moving to the Redlegs, from where also he played 10 games for Queensland, captaining the Maroons in 1970 under Dick Verdon and was winner of both The Courier-Mail and Leach Motors Media Awards.
Stories of his on-field toughness and uncanny skill abound when Kedron Old Boys gather each year. A footballer's footballer and a man’s man, Lindsay maintained communication with our club despite returning to Victoria some years ago, due to family ill health.
He will be sadly missed but will go down in Kedron folklore as one of our greatest ever Redleggers.
