The KEDRON Redlegs seniors and reserve grade sides both tasted success yesterday against Maroochydore at Kedron.
The wins mean that the Seniors have secured third place on the ladder with one fixture remaining away against minor premiers Mayne next Saturday. For the Ressies , beating second placed Maroochydore by eleven points was the shot in the arm this side required, having now tasted victory against all teams during the season with exception of Mayne.
The Two's have really turned on some better football in recent weeks and yesterday was arguably the first time that they maintained focus on their team structures for the full four quarters. It was pleasing to see BOGs being awarded to two of the young Lions in the side with Jacko Whicker and Zano Westbrook displaying the benefits of having played nearly a full season of senior footy.
Stoddy was irrepressible down back and our on ballers put on tireless displays to allow our outside runners the freedom to contribute their individual strengths. Exciting times are ahead for this side, if they keep a lid on personal expectations and remain focussed on putting the team first. Great effort boys!
For the Seniors, an eight goal haul from Full Forward Matty Smith spearheaded a confident performance by Ducey's men. The forward line was particularly impressive, with goals being shared around by Fez , Rhino and Zooey in the seventy point victory over fourth placed Maroochydore. Dougiie off the half back flank had a great game running off his opponent , and Jemma , Chiv and Nutta were all impressive. Great to see Langers return to form and Jakey give his usual unselfish efforts in the ruck and around the ground. On a day where all players contributed spectators commented on the ominous form of Ducey who continues to improve after missing a chunk of the season with injury.
Congratulations to the players from both teams on playing with such commitment to each other, and giving our supporters ample reason to get to our finals which will be held at other venues.
A final word of thanks to our thirds boys who played their final match on Friday night. A solid effort boys despite a season which did not reap too many rewards. However, the fact that you wore the red and blue with so much pride meant more to our club than victory on the scoreboard. Well done, gentlemen.
To all of our supporters, how about getting behind your two senior sides over the next month. As you may know some finals games maybe held up the coast and it would be really encouraging to see a big Redlegger contingent on the sidelines barracking for our boys in the sky blue with the red yoke.
The Redlegger
