Kedron Seniors yesterday took another step closer to that big day in September with a hard fought but convincing forty point win over Maroochydore. In a game that saw the Redlegs get away to a slow start, the boys managed to reign in the enthusiastic Roos to lead at the first break. Some inaccurate kicking by the ‘Leggers had the game still in the balance at the half and three quarter time breaks. However, faith in the game plan preached by Ducey, since the pre-season slog, paid dividends at the business end of the season. Nutta Clarke excelled in a wonderful display of balance, poise and pace. He was simply a class above his opponents and was ably supported up forward by Gfunk who ran amok with a snare of five majors and a couple of minors. Leamz, and Fez produced dominant displays of gut running footy and Crafty and Ducey were ever reliable in a back six that combined very effectively. Big Jakey won third best on ground and caused headaches in his general 'around the ground' performance. Spectators noted that Nugget McGrath was unbeatable on the half back line and Smitty continued his unselfish approach in creating many clever one percent efforts from which his small forwards took full advantage.
The courageous Ressies said farewell by 17 points goals in the earlier game against Maroochydore but will learn much from their finals campaign. Looking like winners throughout they probably may be cursing a couple of hasty decisions and skill errors which can happen in the heat and pressure of a final. Nevertheless it was a successful year for Bucky, Glen Heater and the lads and was wonderful to see some former Kedron juniors play in front of their home crowd. Crowd favourite and Mr Reliable, Cheesey was best on ground and was closely followed by Tucky Powell who continues to evolve as a clever, pacey forward. A big preseason should see Tucky take on 2015 with a bigger tank and really start turning heads in senior footy. With two seasons under his belt he's ripe to become a crowd pleaser at the Lions’ Den. That goes for all of the younger guys, like Zano, Jimmy, Keaysey and Jacko Whicker, all of whom showed our future looks bright. A special “hats off” to our WAFL import and newly adopted favourite son, Siza. His display throughout a season which was interrupted with a serious knee injury was masterful and all supporters and players are hoping to see him in the red and sky blue next year. Overall, congrats to all the boys on a solid season. The trick now will be to use this effort as a building block to higher honours in 2015.
Hope to see as many supporters as possible at Burpengary next Saturday to cheers on Ducey’s boys for the 2pm prelim final against Noosa, the winner going on to meet Mayne in the GF a week later. Up the Leggers !!!
