Tigers roar past Bendigo By Domenic Favata
The Werribee Tigers have secured their first win of the year defeating Bendigo Gold by 83 points at Highgate Reserve in Cragieburn.
The Tigers first home game of the year was moved to the outskirts of Melbourne, but that did little to deter players from producing a ruthless display.
After a slow start, the Tigers powered away. kicking 19 goals to seven after quarter-time, in what was a dominant display of attacking football.
A 10 goal last quarter blew the margin out, but the willingness of the Werribee players to keep their foot on the pedal right until the final siren was a real highlight.
Dylan Reid (46 hitouts and a goal) was enormous in the ruck all day, allowing the likes of Jye Bolton (35 disposals), Michael Sodomaco (26) and Jarred Moore (25) to run riot in midfield.
Up forward, an even spread of 14 individual goal scorers was a major positive out of the win, with Ben Warren (4 goals), Mason Wood (3) and Bolton (3) leading the way.
The Tiger’s run and carry from half-back and the ability for midfielders to score goals was the major difference between the two sides, which would have pleased John Lamont.
Next week’s game is against Port Melbourne at North Port Oval on Saturday the 19th of April in what promises to be a terrific game of football, and a stern test against one of the competitions frontrunners.
Werribee’s next home game will be on Saturday the 26th of April against the Northern Blues, with the match to be played under lights at 7pm.
