Grand Final Results

League Women – Tracy Village Jets v Eagles

The Tracy Village Jets women capped off their perfect season with a 70-43 victory over the Eagles to win this year’s Challenge Season championship. In the process they also ran their winning streak out to 27 in a row and that ties them with the Eagles for the longest winning streak in DBA history. Danielle Totham led the Bombers on the road to victory with a team and game high 20 points followed by Sam Rioli with 17 and Tikesa Docherty-Cole on 14. Another statistic that can’t go un-notice is that coach/player Sam Rioli made an impressive debut as a successful first year coach. The Jets took a slim 14-8 lead in the first quarter followed by an 18-11 run in the second for a game winning 32-19 half-time lead. The Eagles failed to mount a serious challenge in the second half as the Jets piled on the points for the victory. Michelle Friel led the Eagles with 12 points and team mates Faye Armstrong and Alysha-Marie Williams added 8 apiece. This undefeated season of 22 straight wins also set a new DBA record for the most wins in one season by any team, women or men. The Jets have been unstoppable since 2012, winning 7 straight championships. This was their 5th consecutive Challenge Season win since 2011.

Ladder:                                                            Tracy Village Jets 22-0, Eagles 14-9, Uni Rebels 12-9-1, Ansett 6-15, Lightning 6-14 & Razzle 4-16

League Men – Uni Rebels v Eagles

Minor premiers Uni Rebels pushed aside the Eagles for the second time in less than two weeks to successfully defend their Challenge Season title with an 82-76 Grand Final win. This was the Rebels 3rd championship in a row since the 2014 Challenge Season victory. The Rebels came out firing in this championship game and shot off to a 28-13 lead after one quarter of play. They added a few more in the second quarter to take what looked like a comfortable 45-27 half-time lead. However, after the break the Birds began to slowly peg back some of the lead and trailed by just 11 with a quarter to play. Eagle Deola Folarin hit 18 of his game high 34 in the last quarter trying to breech the gap between the sides, but the Rebels held on to claim the win with Tyer Jefferson leading the way. Jefferson led the Rebels with 25, Thomas Uppena hit 17, Lance Schmidt 14 and Bradley Jachmann 12.

Ladder:           UniRebels 18-4, Eagles 14-9, Tracy Village Jets 14-8, Lightning 12-9, Razzle 4-16 & Ansett 2-17-1
