Women

League Women – Tracy Village Jets v Eagles

The Tracy Village Jets finished the regular season without a blemish on their record. The Jets went undefeated throughout for a 12-0 result and look poised to add another championship to their amazing run since the 2012 Challenge Season. The Jets saw off the second placed Eagles with a 63-49 victory setting up a return match next Friday in the major semifinal at 6:30pm. The Eagles did a creditable job in trying to stay with the Jets and did so for a half, trailing the Bombers 30-24 with the second half in front of them. However, the third term proved their undoing as the Bombers rattled off 14 points to just 6 for the Birds and that break was more than the Birds were capable of overtaking. A good result for the Bombers who are definite favourites to repeat (it will be a record sixth straight if they succeed) and not a bad effort from the Eagles. Sam Rioli (15ppg) & Kylie Duggan (20.2ppg) led the Bombers with 18 apiece & Delsey Ah Wang added 10. The Eagles were led by Michelle Friel (9ppg) with 15. The Jets streak of wins is now at 14.

Razzle v Ansett

Ansett dumped the Razzle by almost 40 points 79-42 as the Blues tuned up for the upcoming playoffs that begin this coming Friday. Tamara Sheppard (21.2ppg) had another high scoring game with 27 for the Blues as they set up a semifinal matchup with the Palmerston Power at 8pm Friday night. A low scoring first quarter favouring the Blues 13-8 gave no indication of the fireworks that were about to happen in the second quarter. Ansett lit up the scoreboard for 33 points to just 12 for the Razzle as the Blues zeroed in on their seventh win of the competition. Twenty six points was a monumental ask for the Razzle to overcome as they finished the season with just one win from 12. Sheppard had support from Tamiyah Perkins (13.7) with 18 and Sophie Hatzismalis with 12. Razzles Lailani Triffitt hit a team high 14 with the always reliable Erin Boyd (13.7ppg) on 13.
