Quake took on Mountain Majik at ‘The Epicentre’ on Saturday and even though it was a tough day we were able to double the number of Club Championship points from our Round 1 clash against Majik with 4 wins and 5 losses. Reports follow.

Academy

This was a great game to watch with plenty of skill on show. The boys were short on players this week but gave it their all. In the end the Majik side were just a little better at taking their chances and shaded our boys on the day.

12 Boys won 3-1 (Adrian Neoklis 2, Matthew Khalil 1)

This was another solid performance by the boys this week. This win reversed the result from Round 1 and has put the boys a point clear at the top of the ladder. Adrian was very good again and got another brace of goals to add to his growing tally. It’s a pleasure to watch these boys go about their business each week.

12 Girls lost 3-6 (Amy Sayer, Brooke Pepper and Leiah Colless)

The girls were hammered by this side in Round 1 and when they fell behind 0-3 after just 3 minutes it looked like they were going to be in for another hammering. But they had other ideas and led by pocket dynamo Caitlin they fought and fought and fought to match Majik 3-3 for the next 37 minutes. Congratulations to Leiah on her first ever goal and to Amy & Brooke for their work in scoring the best goal of the year to date.

14 Boys won 3-2 (George Tsokos 2, Riley Hinds 1)

What a win! Down 0-2 at the half against 3rd place Majik the boys were really up against it. They played magnificent team futsal in the 2nd half and beautiful play saw George in the right place at the right time to tap in 2 clever goals that firstly tied the score up and then won the game for the boys. Daniel Blachura was outstanding again this week and Nathan Rapley made some crucial saves, particularly in the 2nd half. Well done boys, we are so proud of the way you keep turning up every week to give it everything you’ve got.

14 Girls - Sponsored by JR Electrical - lost 2-5 (Rosie Galea 1 & Amy Sayer 1)

These girls are only young and all the players who took the court this week we’re only 13 or younger. They can play some very good futsal but do have trouble matching it physically with bigger, older opponents. Having said that, many of the goals they’ve conceded this year have been really poor and they haven’t taken as many chances as they could have. If they can get their defence in order they will win more games this year. Keep going girls, we know how good you can be and we look forward to seeing you at your best from now on.

16 Boys lost 3-4 (Harry Bagot 1, Trent Sierra 1 & Anthony Haddad 1)

Bitter sweet is the only way to describe this result. The boys were totally outplayed in the first half to be down 0-3 at half-time but really got going in the 2nd half to tie the game up 3-3 and should have taken the lead with less than 2 minutes to go to cap a remarkable comeback. But they missed their chance and then Majik rubbed salt into the wounds by getting the winner with 30 seconds left on the clock. This was a tough loss to take but credit to the boys for their 2nd half performance.

16 Girls - Sponsored by Macarthur Marble & Granite – lost 1-4 (Ash Norman 1)

This was the girls’ best 1st half performance and they didn’t deserve to fall behind just on 10 minutes in. Ash scored a well-deserved equaliser before the half and at 1-1 the girls were right in it. Knowing that they have been finishing games off strongly we were expecting an epic 2nd half but the intensity dropped off after half-time and the girls conceded 3 goals in a short period of time and, just like that, the game was gone. Jemma worked tirelessly again and Ash had another strong game.

Youth won 2-0 (Harry Bagot 1 & Marko Filipovic 1)

This wasn’t the lads’ best performance against a very depleted Majik side but they were always comfortably in control and managed to reverse the result from Round 1. They now sit in 2nd place on the table 3 points clear of 3rd with the best defence in the competition. Well done Harry on stepping up to Youth at just 15 years of age and getting your first goal at this level. Not bad for a kid who played ‘keeper last year!

Women - Sponsored by Dunsheas United Realty - lost 1-5 (Lauren Ralston 1)

Majik were pumped and ready to go and totally outplayed our girls. For the 2nd week in a row Quake played well below the level we have come to expect of them. We’ll write this off to a mid-season slump and look forward to the girls getting back on track next week.

Men won 4-3 (Harley Da Silva 2, Shannon Fielding 1 & Danny Martinez 1)

These games will be the end of Carlos with heart stopping action and vital goals in the dying seconds! In a very testy contest, with tackles, insults and (nearly) fists flying everywhere the boys came from behind to snatch a lead only to let Majik score an equaliser almost immediately to tie the game at 3-3 with just minutes left. But someone was going to be sent off and it turned out to be a Majik player getting his marching orders with 2 minutes left on the clock. Simmo then came on to take advantage of the extra man and Quake patiently worked an opening for Harley at the back stick to hammer in the winner with just 20 seconds left on the clock. Harley played well - his first goal to tie the game at 2-2 was an absolute rocket – and he was well supported by Jordan who played yet another fine game.

Summary

You could be disappointed with Majik taking 15 Club Championship and Quake only 12 from the day but, considering how poorly we did on the opening day of the season against Majik, and the 16 Boys result, we’re happy we were able to double our Round 1 points tally.

Next week we play Phoenix at Ryde and we’ll see if we can continue to improve.

As always……GO QUAKE!
